Donna, I've added this one to my list. I'm headed to the library today and am picking up Blind Submission: A Novel. I have checked this book out and returned it unread several times.
There are others I'm also picking up. I'll probably check out the shelving carts and "new book" shelf and the book sale.

I've just started .Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. It's odd to say of a book..."
Rayna, and yet you probably look forward to library day and enjoy the lack of self control. I know I do.

Rayna, about Dragon Tattoo, I have checked out and returned this one unread twice. The 2nd time I even checked out the LP edition thinking I would be able to renew it. No such luck. I'm #32 in line. I keep hoping I'll find this on the book sale shelf but that's too much to hope for.

Lucky for me, my lib..."
Julie, you're so lucky. We have a 2 renewals limit and can't renew at all if there's a hold.

your welcome! I really liked it although its a sad tale the is always Hope!

This one is one of my favorite reads. I'm sure you'll like it."
I did a friend has been nagging me for awhile to read it since I've owned it for a long time

I got The Girl Who Played With Fire in paperback and at my library, paperbacks can be renewed 3 times guaranteed because you can't request/put a hold on paperbacks. I had to buy GWTDT at Costco because I would've had to wait about 5 months for it.

Shay, I'm headed to the library today and plan to check out their ongoing book sale. Who knows, I may get lucky.
I probably should put holds on Played with Fire & Hornet's Nest but, with my luck, they'll probably be ready for pick up before Dragon Tattoo. Sometimes I wish putting holds on stuff at the library was like NETFLIX where you can keep switching up the order in your queue.

Lori, it was on the New Fiction shelf at the library. i recognized the title from this group, which is why i picked it up. glad i did!

I've been so busy with work and this whole week has just been exhausting because I'm still not sleeping well. I'm hoping to catch up on sleep next week because the lack of it is seriously disrupting my normal rhythm and I just lack energy to do anything I'd like. My problem is that I procrastinate instead of doing.
Next week my goal is to finish The Red Tent since it's due back in the library on the third. This should be simple enough, right?

Jane, I enjoyed Queen Loana. I liked it better than The Name of The Rose, I think. Hope you enjoy it. Let me know how you find it.

I starting North River by Pete hammill last night. It's really good so far.

Susanna, I hope you can get into The Red Tent. I really enjoyed it. I also hope you get to sleep soon!

Joanie, I just finished Dismantled: A Novel and I gave it two stars... I've only read Promise Not to Tell: A Novel by Jennifer McMahon and I think because I loved that one, my expectations were too high for Dismantled and led me to be disappointed. I say if you can get it at the library, you should because I paid full price for my copy and I'm so regretting it.
Anyway, now I'm going to start reading Big Stone Gap. I'm just in the mood for some comfort Southern Fiction.

THE HELP was great!

Carol, I know, but I have got to get it done, unfortunately the books have been calling my name and things have gotten a little out of control! And can you believe that the kiddo and the dog and cats expect me to put down the book and feed them? :)

It is something other people do while we are reading books :0)

Rayna, I went to the library yesterday and, of course, went overboard checking out impromptu books. But I go a great stash(a mix of different genres) and am really looking forward to reading them.
I know what you mean about the challenge of getting other stuff done. For me, it kinda goes both ways:
. don't get anything done due to being here on GR or reading
. don't get much reading done or get behind on the threads due to chores/family/other hobbies.

It's pretty good, but not great.I love true crime, so it's fairly interesting to me.

I really love all of Pete Hamill's books. He has a way of capturing your mind and heart at the same time. If you have not read Snow in August, I highly recommend it.

Marelis,
I know there have been more recommendations for Shadow of the Wind online than you can count, but there's a reason for that - it is amazing. While I really enjoyed the second book (prequel), Angel's Game, it didn't do nearly as much for me as Shadow of the Wind. It's always nice to finish a book, but the sad thing is having to move on and leave it behind. However, this is one that will stay with me.

That's one of the benefits of listening to books on tape, CD or my audio digital player....I can listen to me book while I'm cleaning! I don't clean without my book playing at the same time. :)
I have a nasty habit of reading several books at once. At the beginning of the month I was at about six, and I've got it down to three now. Hopefully I'm gonna knock 'em all out by the end of the month…

I've been wanting to read Water for Elephants for a long time. What in particular didn't you like?
As for me, I have a hard time sticking with just one book at a time, and often get distracted from them, so I probably am currently in the process of reading about 15 books! However, the ones I'm really actively reading are Angela's Ashes and Suite Française. I'm only about 40 pages into Angela's Ashes, but am enjoying it so far (even if it is a tad depressing already). As for Suite Française, I've been reading it for a long time now (about 4 months) and only have about 20 pages to finish it.
I think I'm also going to start Frankenstein tonight since it's required summer reading and I want to be able to discuss it on here!

Mona, I agree. I have to make myself time limits, and make myself read. I make sure I take time for myself (read) as it's what keeps me sane. My family appreciates my time reading too... As long as I don't go overboard. I try to limit my time reading to 1-2 hours a day, unless it's a full day off then it's probably more. ;)

Debby you are a genius! I only just stumbled across this brilliant idea myself recently. I had a lot of credit on my iTunes account so I downloaded an Erma Bombeck book on my iPod, and would laugh my way through the weeding every week. I was never so happy to go out into the heat to weed my flower beds! ;) It was awesome! And it keeps you from putting off chores!

oooh yeah me too! I had 7 or 8 at the beginning of the month and now I'm down to 5. I know there are 3 that won't be finished for quite some time. The others...well I'll shoot for having them read by the end of August, as the end of July is in only a week. ha ha.

Am also about 100 pages in ofThe Physick Book of Deliverance Dane and I like this one so far as well.

I'm the same way right now. Had to give up on The New Annotated Dracula for now, too dense for my low levels of concentration right now. Halfway done withStories: All-New Tales but feel like i should be done with it already given how much i've enjoyed it.

Too late! I was at Borders yesterday and it was on the buy one get one half table so I bought it along with Dark Places oh well.
Anyway, now I'm going to start reading Big Stone Gap. I'm just in the mood for some comfort Southern Fiction.
Loved this series-so good!
