Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 140 comments I'm currently reading Mrs. Dalloway and The Golden Notebook for my Creative Women Challenge. I was reading A Wizard of Earthsea, but it just wasn't very good, which was disappointing because I love everything else I've read of hers.

Donna, I've added this one to my list. I'm headed to the library today and am picking up Blind Submission: A Novel. I have checked this book out and returned it unread several times.

There are others I'm also picking up. I'll probably check out the shelving carts and "new book" shelf and the book sale.

Rayna, about Dragon Tattoo, I have checked out and returned this one unread twice. The 2nd time I even checked out the LP edition thinking I would be able to renew it. No such luck. I'm #32 in line. I keep hoping I'll find this on the book sale shelf but that's too much to hope for.

I got The Girl Who Played With Fire in paperback and at my library, paperbacks can be renewed 3 times guaranteed because you can't request/put a hold on paperbacks. I had to buy GWTDT at Costco because I would've had to wait about 5 months for it.

Shay, I'm headed to the library today and plan to check out their ongoing book sale. Who knows, I may get lucky.

I probably should put holds on Played with Fire & Hornet's Nest but, with my luck, they'll probably be ready for pick up before Dragon Tattoo. Sometimes I wish putting holds on stuff at the library was like NETFLIX where you can keep switching up the order in your queue.

message 21364: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) I'm struggling to find time (and interest, to be honest) to read. I'm in the middle of King & Straub's The Talisman and Diamant's The Red Tent , the latter of which I've been reading sporadically when I've found time.

I've been so busy with work and this whole week has just been exhausting because I'm still not sleeping well. I'm hoping to catch up on sleep next week because the lack of it is seriously disrupting my normal rhythm and I just lack energy to do anything I'd like. My problem is that I procrastinate instead of doing.

Next week my goal is to finish The Red Tent since it's due back in the library on the third. This should be simple enough, right?

I've only read Promise Not to Tell: A Novel by Jennifer McMahon and I think because I loved that one, my expectations were too high for Dismantled and led me to be disappointed. Rayna, I went to the library yesterday and, of course, went overboard checking out impromptu books. But I go a great stash(a mix of different genres) and am really looking forward to reading them.

I know what you mean about the challenge of getting other stuff done. For me, it kinda goes both ways:

. don't get anything done due to being here on GR or reading

. don't get much reading done or get behind on the threads due to chores/family/other hobbies.

Marelis,

I know there have been more recommendations for Shadow of the Wind online than you can count, but there's a reason for that - it is amazing. While I really enjoyed the second book (prequel), Angel's Game, it didn't do nearly as much for me as Shadow of the Wind. It's always nice to finish a book, but the sad thing is having to move on and leave it behind. However, this is one that will stay with me.

Jane | 221 comments I've been reading - in between other books - The Book of the Unknown by Jonathon Keats. It's a really great collection of stories - very different. It is hard to believe, but wonderful, that this can be the same author as the one who wrote Pathology of Lies. I thought that was just plain creepy and couldn't finish. But I still have it on my to-read list.

I have a nasty habit of reading several books at once. At the beginning of the month I was at about six, and I've got it down to three now. Hopefully I'm gonna knock 'em all out by the end of the month…

tiasreads I seem to be on a disappointing kick of reading books that looked so good, but I ended up not enjoying them. I've been wanting to read Water for Elephants for a long time. What in particular didn't you like?
As for me, I have a hard time sticking with just one book at a time, and often get distracted from them, so I probably am currently in the process of reading about 15 books! However, the ones I'm really actively reading are Angela's Ashes and Suite Française. I'm only about 40 pages into Angela's Ashes, but am enjoying it so far (even if it is a tad depressing already). As for Suite Française, I've been reading it for a long time now (about 4 months) and only have about 20 pages to finish it.
I think I'm also going to start Frankenstein tonight since it's required summer reading and I want to be able to discuss it on here!

Mona, I agree. I have to make myself time limits, and make myself read. I make sure I take time for myself (read) as it's what keeps me sane. My family appreciates my time reading too... As long as I don't go overboard. I try to limit my time reading to 1-2 hours a day, unless it's a full day off then it's probably more. ;)

Debby you are a genius! I only just stumbled across this brilliant idea myself recently. I had a lot of credit on my iTunes account so I downloaded an Erma Bombeck book on my iPod, and would laugh my way through the weeding every week.
