message 20505: by Maria (new)

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments i set aside The Calligrapher's Daughter for the time being. i needed to get some space and then go back to it. as a quick read in the interim, i picked up Love the One You're With from Emily Giffin on recommendation from a co-worker. i'm about 95% enjoying it; the other 5% of me wonders why the character doesn't do one of the 2 things i think are obvious in her situation. of course, i'm only about 100 pages in, so we'll see if my opinion changes any.

Alex, yes, it was just okay. Not as good as his other books that I've read so far. It gets better the second half of the book. I imagine it would be have been better watching the movie if it gets made into a movie :)

I had to order a Kindle sample of this one, The Scent of Sake based on the timing. I just enjoyed a lovely bottle of Hakutsuru Sayuri sake last night with my incredible sushi/sashimi. The Amazon ratings/comments area bit mixed so I eagerly await yours.

I absolutely love Mary Stewart novels. I go way back some 20 odd years or so with reading her fiction novels. She is like an old friend that I love to catch up with from time to time.

Betsy (mistymtladi) | 511 comments Lalita wrote: "I've just started reading the first book in a trilogy by Nora Roberts called 'Blood Brothers'. So far so good:) "

I like Nora Roberts trilogies when they deal with the paranormal or supernatural.Although this set was darker, more Stephen King like, than some of her other trilogies, I enjoyed it very much. My favorites of these type of trilogies deal with the three sisters on the island of the same name and the Irish tales with jewel names in them. Funny though I'm not crazy about her Eve Dallas series which she writes under a another name.( Yeah,I'd use another name too:)

message 20532: by Betsy (new)

Betsy (mistymtladi) | 511 comments I'm reading The Passage by Justin Cronin. It's an excellent Sci/Fi about a dystopian world brought about when a failed military experiment unleases man-killing semi-human monsters on the planet. At this point the surviors are living in fortress type compounds fighting off the "virals" and worrying about their dimishing power resources.

message 20533: by Vicki (new)

I've never seen it but the people who guide all my scifi TV viewing recommend it.

message 20542: by Loretta (new)

Loretta I enjoyed the Dresden series too, and hadn't heard anything about the books at the time.

Just finished a really really lovely book, The Lake Shore Limited. Beautifully written book about grief and relationships among a group of people who lost a loved one in 9/11.

Now I'm starting Anna Karenina. I'm having a hard time getting into it, because I just haven't had time to read more than a few pages at a time, and today won't give me much time either, but I'll keep plugging away.

I've been so looking forward to reading this book I kept saving it until I realised there would never be a perfect time to start it.
I'm only a few chapters in but so far I am not disappointed.

I will know today. Yesterday I got a bit sidetracked; my 2 year old managed to get a sequin in her eye (seriously, wtf) and we spent some time at Urgent Care. I guess those are the kinds of injuries I can expect with four daughters. :o) But I am reading it today and I'll let you know.
