I just finished Ben Tanzer's book Most Likely You Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine... It's a fun inside look at a dysfunctional relationship.

About to start David H. Burton's eBook The Second Coming.

Natalie,

I have added this one to my TBR. I am a fan of his writing. I will let you know what impressions he has left on me once I have finished. it.

Elaine (elainereads) I'm currently re-reading book four in Lynn Viehl's Darkyn series: Night Lost. I think this is my third or fourth time through the series and I still can't keep all of the characters straight. The newest book (Kyndrid series) comes out next month, so I have to be ready for it!

BTW, I am new to Goodreads although I joined a long time ago. I just never participated until now.

Well, it's not like I need help adding to my TBR stack! -grin- I am a school librarian in "real" life and can't keep up with the YA books I need/want to read. Now that summer break is almost here, I plan on concentrating on my books.

Natalie Baer | 182 comments I'm struggling with "Inconsolable" about a renown musician who comes to a town in Europe. It just goes on and on with people he doesn't know "or remember" who apologize but "would he mind doing this or that" 3/4 way through and it doesn't come to a point. Picked up "Italy in Mind", a series of essays written by Lord Byron, Mary McCarthy, etc. I'll be thee next month so figure its worth reading.

Wait!!! Someone wrote a book about me and my ex????! Good to know!!

message 19858: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Natalie, Italy in Mind sounds very interesting. I'd like to hear how it goes for you. I love reading about a place you're soon to visit! One of my favorite things to do.

Sherrie (syellico) Alex wrote: "How ya likin' Under the Dome?

Hi Alex,
I'm liking it ok, but it's got so many characters to keep track of and since it hasn't been an exclusive read for me, I keep having to remember who everyone is. I'm going to keep plugging along - it's just so daunting trying to hold up that big ol' hardback while reading in bed. I keep considering buying it for my Nook, but haven't broke down yet :)

message 19860: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Ah yes. Tomes like Under the Dome are made for e-readers. I let my wife borrow mine just to read it.

KHoopMan (eliza_morgan) | 151 comments I just picked up She's Come Undone. I'm a little nervous that it's an Oprah Bookclub pick. I hope it's not lame.

message 19865: by Sasha (new)

Sasha I was not a huge fan of She's Come Undone. Sorry to be pessimistic. Hopefully you like it better than I did.

message 19866: by Carol (new)

Carol I didn't care for it either Alex.

message 19867: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) Bradbury didn't do it for me though I did finish it. I'm falling back on some King. Skeleton Crew starts with "The Mist" which means I'll probably have to get the movie ASAP to see how different/similar the storylines are.

message 19868: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Hee, I loved the movie. I mean, not because it was good. It wasn't. At all. I suggest being high on something when you watch it.

It gets better the more I read, I didn't know that "Farewell to Arms" by Ernest Hemingway was about Italy or that Herman Melville wrote poetry (there's a short one about Venice), the book was published in 1997 by Vintage Books, worth getting hold of.

message 19870: by Raquel (new)

Raquel | 3 comments I just started reading The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris. I loved And Then We Came to the End -- working daily in an office made it easy to get into that book. So far The Unnamed is starting a little slow, but I would have to say that Joshua Ferris is a very, very intriguing author. Anyone else read anything by him...?

message 19871: by Marti (new)

Marti (marjay) | 985 comments Hi Steve, My best friend and I both read The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris... We both felt differently about the book. We both... well keep reading...

I am going to read Mistress of Rome next unless the book at the library for me is on a tight time table....

Steve, I read And Then We Came to the End ... and was very underwhelmed with it. Though the Unnamed sounds good, I am weary to buy it...

message 19873: by Raquel (new)

Raquel | 3 comments I struggled with the first 65 pages or so of The Unnamed, but it's getting a little more interesting now as it gets into the details of the trial he was working. I'll let you know what I think!

Yeah, I recommended And Then We Came to the End to a friend of mine at work and he kind of responded the same way. I'll let you know what I think of The Unnamed.

Lori Ann | 105 comments I finished/finishing up a couple books right now. The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie which was a very fun read, A Wrinkle in Time a book I somehow have gone my whole 25 years without reading! And The Haunted House which is a ghost story written by Dickens, Collins, Gaskell and a few others so I couldn't resist.

message 19876: by Sasha (new)

Sasha A Wrinkle in Time! *applause* Man, I've read that book a lot of times. I also loved the sequel, A Wind in the Door. I did not like the third book, but I don't remember why (or what its name is).

Oh hey, Haunted House is an amazing idea. I'd never heard of that. How is it?

message 19877: by Lori Ann (new)

Lori Ann | 105 comments Alex- I'm only about 40 pages in, so far I like it. Every chapter is written by a different author so it should be interesting to see if it works as a whole.

Cool, Lori Ann. Keep me posted.

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) Yesterday, I started Frost: Poems, which is a collection of Robert Frost's poetry. I love immersing myself in it so incredibly much. I'm not sure what it is about him, but he's definitely my favorite poet.

I'm also reading The Bell Witch: An American Haunting by Brent Monahan, and Stephen King's Rage, which since it's out of print, I'm reading in The Bachman Books.

Natalie Baer | 182 comments Finished 500+ page book by Kazuo Ishaguru "The Inconsoluble" and didn't like it at all. He just went on and on and on and I never found out the point of it. A real come down from his other books. This one he wrote in the 1990's, "Remains of the Day" was earlier and his others in the 2000s.

Sydney | 45 comments Finally finished Lost in a Good Book (Thursday Next, #2) by Jasper Fforde and Darker Angels lots of reading under the sun in Victoria BC while I was on vacation! It was so relaxing!! Now I am going to enjoy a quick read I checked out from the library Spooky Little Girl, then I think I will plunge into One Hundred Years of Solitude

but considering that I have serious A.D.D. when it comes to books -- a book with a shiney cover may distract me and that is what I will read.......

Marti (marjay) | 985 comments The Library called and my new library book is in and due first and I won a ARC novel on Book Browse...so time to rearrange the TBR list again. I will be reading Deception: An Alex Delaware Novel by Jonathan Kellerman and then if my ARC novel isn't in I will read Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn and if my ARC is in I will read The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives: A Novel byLola Shoneyin and then go on to Mistress of Rome.

I just knew you were waiting for this! LOL

message 19890: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished up Revenge of the Spellmans just now which I loved, Lisa Lutz just gets funnier and funnier with every book in the series and I think I will have to get the fourth book very shortly.

I'm just about to start My Brother's Keeper: The Official Bra Boys Story which I've had sitting on my shelf for a little while. It should be good though as I've always wondered what the facination is with the "Bra Boys" & as an Aussie I probably should know.

Mary (madamefifi) | 358 comments I'm reading Wedlock: The True Story of the Disastrous Marriage and Remarkable Divorce of Mary Eleanor Bowes, Countess of Strathmore, which ia an interesting look at Georgian society and law. Hard to imagine that wife-beating was not only tolerated but somewhat encouraged, and that an abused wife had absolutely no legal recourse. At first I admit I had little sympathy for the Countess because she seemed silly, vain, and impulsive, but now that the poor thing is having the sh*t kicked out of her on a daily basis I'm hoping for a "happy" ending.

Sasha Flora! Canterbury Tales, huh? I've been thinking a lot about that book. I took a whole class on it in college, which I'm using as an excuse to not read it again...but I have this nagging voice that tells me I ought to. How're you liking it? Are you reading it in the original, or a retelling of some sort? (I know there's a well-liked modern prose version out there.)

Carol, you're digging Beowulf on the Beach? I use it as reference: whenever I'm reading a book Murnighan covers, I look it up (either before or after, depending on my concern for spoilers) just for the hell of it. It's a cute book, but his obsession with "dirty parts" is a little adolescent. And really, you can't suggest someone skip parts of The Sound and the Fury. That's just silly.

I am referring to his "What to Skip" sections on Boccaccio's Decameron, though.

Ooh thanks Alex! A modern prose version sounds like my kind of thing. I never tried to read Canterbury Tales but I don't like struggling with language I am not used to in any book.

message 19898: by Sasha (new)

Sasha If I were you, Julie, I would be an obsessive dork, so you would be very different...and I would buy both the prose version and the original version so I could check out how the original flows every once in a while. That's what I think I'm about to do with Piers Ploughman.
