I hope I'm not, too!
Thanks.

The very positive NY Times review says it doesn't feel like the dreaded List of Names and Dates; do you agree? That's my one fear.
Does it mention important literature from the periods it covers? That'd be cool.

It mentions some of the great writers from each period, obviously you get more writers the nearer to the present day you get to.

Just requested House Rules from the library. I figure I should have it in 3 months or so!

Luna I loved Beastly! I thought it was so great and ended up reading it in one sitting. I heard they're making a movie out of it with Vanessa Hudgens and one of the Olsen Twins. I'm skipping that...

Linda, I love her books..."
Somehow, I missed this one! Put it on the TBR to read soon!

I am really enjoying it and love the writing style. I'll be picking up The Blind Assassin at the library and hope to start it.
The Historian is on my Kindle also. I needed to take a break. However, I will pick it up again next week. I leave for AZ on Tuesday, and will not take books with me unless they are on my iPhone.

I just finished Let the Right One In! It's very good. Have you seen the movie? The movie is actually also quite good though not as good as the book of course.
I'm reading Wench: A Novel and am not loving it.

Free Kindle books are SO addictive, because they really do run the gamut from terrible to terrific. I never know what I'm going to get when I download one!

Mary, that's on my TBR list...can you give me some info as to why it's not grabbing you?
Kari said I'm currently reading Dead Witch Walking, because it was free on the Kindle when the author's latest book came out. It's kind of slow going so far, but it appears to be picking up.
Kari - I downloaded that one too, keep me posted on how it is for you!

Just recently brought that book. Let me know how it works out!

Sorry if I make mistakes english isnt my first language :)

Welcome to goodreads Aleksandra and your English is very good. Just a wild guess but are you Greek ?

Oh hope you didn't mind me thinking you were Greek, Polish is cool too.
Hey Aleksandra, welcome !!!!
I just started Shutter Island. Im loving it, but afraid to pop into the spoilers thread because I heard there is a major spoiler right in the first post!!!!

I enjoyed Firefly Lane. I think the author really has a gift of bringing you so into the story that you become attached to the characters.
I am readingThe Three Weissmanns of Westport: A Novel by Cathleen Schine. It started out pretty good but is slowing down a bit.

I'm not sure, Chantelle. I'm not especially drawn to any of the characters, they all seem kind of superficial. The historical details are vague and don't feel authentic. Maybe I'm just not in the mood for this kind of book. I do plan to finish it, though I've set it aside for some nonfiction--Not Without Peril: 150 Years of Misadventure on the Presidential Range of New Hampshire.

Dessa I read Devil in the White City last summer and really enjoyed it, I liked the two stories and wondering why we don't have World's Fairs anymore!

I read that a few months ago and loved it. I think at the end you will be very satisfied with it.

I am on chapter 10 of Horns on cd and it is great. Joe Hill is a really great author, I think he may take over when his dad quits writing. I also just finished The Brief History of the Dead which I would recommend to anyone interested in views of the 'afterlife'.
I think I will also start Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us

I'm so glad that you stuck with TGWTDT, the next two books are soooo much better. I'm so excited for you.

I started reading Cujo the other day. In high school, I read The Stand and loved it and started reading other King books, which progressively got worse, ending with Pet Sematary. I never read another King book. Lately, though, his books seem to be popping up again and I thought I'd give them a try once more. I remember Cujo being mentioned fairly often and thought I'd try it. So far, it's interesting.
I'm also listening to Haunted on my commutes. Interesting......gross in parts.......not sure what to think of it yet......
Lastly, I'm reading Sweetheart in the evening, right before bed. It's the second book in a series featuring a really cold, brutal serial killer named Gretchen Lowell. I'm enjoying this series.
