I'm reading 3 books right now.

The Flesh Statue - U.L. Harper

It's really good so far, my husband started reading it too and now I've lost my spot because it's on the kindle. Ugh!

Go-Go Girls and the Apocalypse - Victor Gischler

A light post apocalyptic story as far are post apocalyptic stories go. A lot of the reviewers say he's sexist but I don't see it.

I can't get past 30 pages of "The Girl with the dragon tattoo" I heard lots of good reviews for it so I was sure I'd like it. Does it get better because I really want to like it, but I don't know.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo starts slowly but gets really good, I think.

message 18303: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Susanna, I'll give it another shot.

message 18304: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 475 comments OK. So I just finished The Penderwicks on Gardam Street as an audiobook and The Secret Garden.

AND

dun dun dun

The Count of Monte Cristo - Best book ever! I raced through 1450+ pages in less than a week!

Currently reading The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove and The Age of Innocence.

message 18305: by El (new)

El Yay, Dumas!
Yay, Edith Wharton!

message 18306: by sheila (new)

sheila | 35 comments I am reading Cutting For Stone and that is a really good book, dont want to put it down. The other one is Land of Spices, a ah so so book. I want to give up on it and retire it for a bit. Waiting to start reading the sookie stackhouse first book.

message 18307: by Gorana (new)

Gorana | 98 comments Just starting Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah :)

message 18308: by [deleted user] (new)

Finally finished White Stone Day which took me forever. It was very slow moving and just couldn't hold my attention for a long period of time. If I were the type to give up on a book, I probably would have given up on it.

I'm now onto InkHeart by Cornelia Funke. Inkheart - Gift Edition (Inkheart Trilogy 1) by Cornelia Funke
I'm liking this so far, it's pretty interesting and I think it will only get better.

message 18309: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (schaubchick) | 138 comments Solved my own problem and read The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane today. I so thoroughly enjoyed it, that I read cover to cover today!

Think I'll start Firefly Summer tonight.

message 18310: by Writerlibrarian (new)

Writerlibrarian I've started Everything Is Illuminated again. I tried it before the movie came out a few years ago. Now, having watched the movie, reading the book is easier and I can "hear" Alex's voice so clearly. So in this case, it was better for me to see the movie before reading the book. So rare.

Paula | 1098 comments Linda, I'm listening to "Lady Killer" by Lisa Scottoline and am really enjoying it. Rosenblatt is the reader and she is not a favorite of mine but I love the voices she's doing for this book. I will read more of Scottoline also.

message 18313: by F1Wild (new)

F1Wild In addition to Shutter Island I began reading Going Gray : What I Learned About Beauty, Sex, Work, Motherhood - lets face it, getting old sucks and I wanted to share the joy through my reading. ;-)

How did you like Shiver? I just had a student finish it and am going to bring her the other Maggie Stiefvater that I've gotten.

message 18315: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Frary | 90 comments Just finished 'A Conspiracy of Paper' by David Liss, which was very intriguing and overall a good read. It got four stars from me.

Now I'm going to start 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'.

message 18316: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments Just finished The World According to Garp. Not at all what I expected, but I guess I should get used to that from Irving--his characterization is incredible but he has a crazy imagination.

I am now going to start Thereby Hangs a Tail, the sequel to Dog on It. Anyone who likes dogs and mysteries has to start this series!!!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Finished Lustrum last night - interesting novel.

message 18318: by Petra (new)

Petra I finished Set This House in Order: A Romance of Souls and gave it 5*. It's a warm story of 2 Multiple Personality people coming to terms with their "souls" and their individual pasts. It's also a story of acceptance and friendship and trust (in Life and in people). Although there are numerous "switches" between the different Souls, the story is easy to follow.
This is my second Matt Ruff book. The first, Bad Monkeys, was also good (although this one was better, I found). I'll be reading more of his books in future.

message 18319: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I've started reading a YA called "Birdwing". I forget the author just now but it's a fantasy based on a favorite fairy tale of mine, "The Six Swans". This is the story of the youngest brother whose left arm stayed the wing of a swan because his sister was unable to finish the sleeve on the nettle shirt. It's pretty good so far.

Paula - I recently read Company of Liars and this exact story is in it. One of the characters has is the youngest brother with the swan wing, though it is supposed to be the mother that was knitting the shirt. Really interesting! I thought this was a story made up for the book. I had no idea this was a popular fairy tale.

message 18321: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I hadn't read it for years Bridgit (the fairy tale) but have a Grimm's fairy tale book just because it's in it. Someone on another list just told me that there is another book called "Daughter of the Forest" that is a novel about the fairy tale. I'm going to look for it later. : )

message 18322: by Bhumi (new)

Bhumi | 524 comments I'm reading Mansfield Park. The writing is great, the plot a little slow. It'll get better, I'm sure.

Has anybody else read it? What was your opinion on the book?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I like the writing, as it is Miss Austen; but I prefer others of her books. Especially Pride and Prejudice.

message 18324: by Carol (new)

Carol I just glanced through Mansfield Park, but it is in the house on the shelf haunting me.

message 18325: by Carol (new)

Carol I have finally received The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played With Fire. The Hornets nest will come in May. I have started the dragon tattoo. It is very good so far.

Bridgit, wow , you read CoMC in ONE WEEK???? *bows down* - that's amazing!

I am currently reading Postcards from a Dead Girl: A Novel, and really enjoying it. It's about a guy who is going crazy - he is getting postcards in the mail from his girlfriend who has been missing for the last year, and the postcards were all postmarked a year ago....

So far, so good!

message 18333: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 413 comments Just started Troy Shield of Thunder (Troy, #2) by David Gemmell Troy: Shield of Thunder it is the second book in the Troy series by David Gemmell. I really enjoyed the first book, although the beginning was a little slow due to the introduction of all the characters. The second book started off strong from the first page and I am excited to see what happens since this is a little bit different look at the tale of troy.

message 18334: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I finished Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer and I thought it was extremely good. It read faster than any other non-fiction book I read. Now I'm reading Mathilda Savitch by Victor Lodato which was a first reads win.

message 18335: by Paula (new)

Jayme (jayme-reads) Annabeth wrote: "Still reading Shakespeare and H.P.Lovecraft. There's a lot to go through! :)"

How are you liking Lovecraft? I'm trying an audiobook of his "best". I finished The Dunwich Horror and it just couldn't hold my attention. Is it better reading it? I thought maybe because he uses so much description, audio might not have been the way to go.

message 18343: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Finished People of the Book and really enjoyed it. I am almost finishing The Book Thief which is also really good and started The Last Fighting Tommy: The Life of Harry Patch, the Oldest Surviving Veteran of the Trenches.

That wasn't my favourite Kay book, but still good. If you like that you should read The Fionavar Tapestry, they're semi-related.

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Paula wrote: "I thought "Under the Banner of Heaven" was a bit frightening. That one could keep you up nights!"

I wasn't really that frightened by it. One non-fiction book that scared the hell out of me was In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. I read half of that book at night and then stopped because I was too scared. I have yet to pick it up again.

message 18348: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments That one was quite scary! I did finish it and have never forgotten it. Another one was "Hot Zone" by Preston. We are one plane trip away.

I think what was frightening about "Under the Banner of Heaven" is the way these fundamentalists think. That is very scary to me.

message 18349: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments The way the fundamentalists think really just upset me. The whole book was upsetting or rather the topic was. It was still a great book though. I definitely have the check out Hot Zone.

message 18350: by Rene (new)

Rene | 49 comments I read Hot Zone several years ago and it still haunts my memory. It was very scary and a hint away from being true.
