F1Wild I finished Steinbeck's Travels with Charley: In Search of America over the weekend and just couldn't stop thinking how relevant the subjects discussed are, especially today.

I began Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly and find it an easy read, and glorious if you are a Bourdain fan or even just a foodie.

I can't decide on my next adventure - will either be with Long Way Down by Ewan McGregor & Charley Boorman (I LOVED their "Long Way Round" book and UK series!!), Hillary Jordan's Mudbound, Dolen Perkins-valdez' Wench: A Novel (good sister pieces to The Help) or Soul Mountain by Gao Xingjian to bring me back to Asia.

Too many books, not enough time?

Glad to hear it Beth. There is supposed to be another book called "The Postmistress" by Sarah Blake that's coming out that is supposed to be kind of like "The Help". I thought I'd check that one out when it's available.

This has been sitting on my nightstand for too long taunting me. It doesn't help that everyone keeps saying how good it is. As soon as I finish my last two library books, I'm going to have to start it!

Hello Friends. Picked up Laura Kalpakian's The Memoir Club at the library. Interesting book and is keeping my interest.

Paula, I picked up THE POSTMISTRESS today at the library, it's been getting great reviews. The library actually ordered it for me!

Rene | 49 comments I read The Help last year too and loved it. On Tuesday, I got The Postmistress on my Kindle. When I finish Sins of Eden it will be next. By the way, Sins of Eden is really interesting. I am captivated and it is really hard to put this book down.

message 17860: by Petra (new)

Petra I finished Ender's Game last night and really enjoyed it. I hadn't realized that it was the start of a series. I'll be reading the others to find out what happens.
I'm continuing with Lolita, which I'm finding a bit slow and yet creepy, and I've started Persepolis 1: The Story of a Childhood, a library book that I've got to get return soon.

The sequel is very very different from Ender's Game. I didn't like it nearly as much. I haven't read any of the others yet, cause I can't imagine it getting any better.

I am so glad I read Travels with Charley. First of all ebcause it was such a good book to read, it was interesting and never bored. The descriptions were great and, well, as was Charley! But also because it was a complete different way of Steinbeck.

Bridgit | 475 comments Finished Dune on my snow day yesterday. I still need to think more about that one to gauge my reaction.

I have been reading a lot of classics and more demanding reads lately, so now it is tiem for soemthing like. A little paranormal romance on the table: Thorn Queen - Richelle Mead. About 100 pages in so far and quite liking it.

Jayme, that's sad to hear. The sequels have possibilities of a good story, gauging from how Enders Game ended.

message 17876: by Cristina (new)

Cristina (ladyboudica) | 1 comments I just started reading “Look Again” by Lisa Scottoline and “Dead In Dallas” by Charlaine Harris. I'm trying to finish the audiobook of “North Anger Abbey” by Jane Austin before it airs on PBS this Sunday. My little boy and I are reading "Alice in Wonderland" together.

I usually have 4 books going at once. One in my purse, one on my bedside table, one audio book in the car, and one bed time book to read with my youngest son.

Bridgit | 475 comments Susanna wrote: "I really liked Crocodile on the Sandbank. Fun series."

One of my favorite series of all time. There are a ton of them and they are all really good. I have been fascinated with Egyptology and pyramids ever since reading this in grade school.

I think this is one of the few series that I have read that hasnt degraded over time as the author tries to find new hooks. I hope you enjoy it the rest of them!

You could totally love it, but be prepared for it being a really different storyline than the original. I don't regret reading it at all, but it wasn't exactly my cup of tea either.

Now I'm going to start Breath, Eyes, Memory for AtW challenge.

Michelle♥ Oh man, I have not posted anything on here in quite sometime! Life has its unpredictable quarrels sometimes!

I've been on a Michael Crichton kick as of lately and I'm JUST starting Jurassic Park. I've just recently finished The Andromeda Strain by him and have to say that I was thoroughly disappointed with the ending. But I love the fast-paced and his style of writing.

I really want to start reading The Hunger Games because everyone has been talking about how good they are, and I also want to read Splendor because I fell madly in love with the Luxe series.

Has there been any books that people have read that were so-good-I-need-to-thrust-this-into-your-chest-you-have-to-read-this-right-now? If so, let me know! Thanks!!! :)

I also really like this series - and find them especially enjoyable as audiobooks. My husband also enjoys them, so we often discuss them as we're reading. We're up to book 8 - I think there are close to 20, so there's no danger of running out of them soon!

I just finished the sequel, Catching Fire and I loved it. I just couldn't put it down, it is a wonder I still have a job. I feel bereft now having to wait so long for the last book to be released.

I am now about to read White Tiger by Aravind Adiga.

We have snow here in NC too! We never get any snow either and I plan to read, read, read! I loved A Tree Grows in Brooklyn also.

El I just finished Daughters of the Stone: A Novel (I recommend it, especially to anyone interested in ancestry and the relationships between mothers and daughters). And while I'm still rereading The Name of the Rose, I also just started The Slynx. A Russian dystopia sounds perfect right now with the several feet of snow we still have on the ground.

Now I'm reading Mercury Falls by Robert Kroese - absolutely hilarious, something between Kurt Vonnegut and Douglas Adams. I can hardly put it down.
