What are you reading?

Hope you're enjoying "The Help" Beth. It was on my favorites list last year.

Glad to hear it Beth. There is supposed to be another book called "The Postmistress" by Sarah Blake that's coming out that is supposed to be kind of like "The Help". I thought I'd check that one out when it's available.

This has been sitting on my nightstand for too long taunting me. It doesn't help that everyone keeps saying how good it is. As soon as I finish my last two library books, I'm going to have to start it!
Hello Friends. Picked up Laura Kalpakian's The Memoir Club at the library. Interesting book and is keeping my interest.

Glad to hear it Beth. There is supposed to be another book called "The Postmistress" by Sarah Blake that's coming out that is supposed to be kind ..."
Paula, I picked up THE POSTMISTRESS today at the library, it's been getting great reviews. The library actually ordered it for me!

I'm continuing with Lolita, which I'm finding a bit slow and yet creepy, and I've started Persepolis 1: The Story of a Childhood, a library book that I've got to get return soon.

I'm continuing wi..."
The sequel is very very different from Ender's Game. I didn't like it nearly as much. I haven't read any of the others yet, cause I can't imagine it getting any better.
Starting "Please:Fiction inspired by The Smiths"... so far so good. Its a collection of short stories that are influenced either by song lyrics or song title.

I am so glad I read Travels with Charley. First of all ebcause it was such a good book to read, it was interesting and never bored. The descriptions were great and, well, as was Charley! But also because it was a complete different way of Steinbeck.

I have been reading a lot of classics and more demanding reads lately, so now it is tiem for soemthing like. A little paranormal romance on the table: Thorn Queen - Richelle Mead. About 100 pages in so far and quite liking it.

Jayme, that's sad to hear. The sequels have possibilities of a good story, gauging from how Enders Game ended.

I usually have 4 books going at once. One in my purse, one on my bedside table, one audio book in the car, and one bed time book to read with my youngest son.

One of my favorite series of all time. There are a ton of them and they are all really good. I have been fascinated with Egyptology and pyramids ever since reading this in grade school.
I think this is one of the few series that I have read that hasnt degraded over time as the author tries to find new hooks. I hope you enjoy it the rest of them!

Paula, I picked up THE POSTMISTRESS today...
Ohhh, be sure and let me know what you think of it Patricia!

You could totally love it, but be prepared for it being a really different storyline than the original. I don't regret reading it at all, but it wasn't exactly my cup of tea either.

I just finished Hunger Games at work today too. It was awesome! I don't know how I'm going to wait to start the second one...I'm 8 on list at the library.
Now I'm going to start Breath, Eyes, Memory for AtW challenge.

I've been on a Michael Crichton kick as of lately and I'm JUST starting Jurassic Park. I've just recently finished The Andromeda Strain by him and have to say that I was thoroughly disappointed with the ending. But I love the fast-paced and his style of writing.
I really want to start reading The Hunger Games because everyone has been talking about how good they are, and I also want to read Splendor because I fell madly in love with the Luxe series.
Has there been any books that people have read that were so-good-I-need-to-thrust-this-into-your-chest-you-have-to-read-this-right-now? If so, let me know! Thanks!!! :)

I also really like this series - and find them especially enjoyable as audiobooks. My husband also enjoys them, so we often discuss them as we're reading. We're up to book 8 - I think there are close to 20, so there's no danger of running out of them soon!

I just finished the sequel, Catching Fire and I loved it. I just couldn't put it down, it is a wonder I still have a job. I feel bereft now having to wait so long for the last book to be released.
I am now about to read White Tiger by Aravind Adiga.

I agree - the narrative style and his quirkie, yet elegant descriptions were a joy to read.

Yes, I am, El - but I'm very glad I'm not hyperempathetic like Lauren; even in good times that would be a burden.

We have snow here in NC too! We never get any snow either and I plan to read, read, read! I loved A Tree Grows in Brooklyn also.

We could use some of that snow for the olympics. :( This is the warmest winter I can ever remember.

Loved this book Li! Hope you do too.

I began Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly and find it an easy read, and glorious if you are a Bourdain fan or even just a foodie.
I can't decide on my next adventure - will either be with Long Way Down by Ewan McGregor & Charley Boorman (I LOVED their "Long Way Round" book and UK series!!), Hillary Jordan's Mudbound, Dolen Perkins-valdez' Wench: A Novel (good sister pieces to The Help) or Soul Mountain by Gao Xingjian to bring me back to Asia.
Too many books, not enough time?
