For what it's worth, I gave In the Woods 4 stars and The Likeness: A Novel 5 stars.

I really loved The Likeness. It reminded me a bit of The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I hope you enjoy it!

message 17152: by JSou (new)

JSou I finished Fallen by David Maine and really liked it. Now onto Black Swan Green by David Mitchell and of course, going on with Ulysses.

Cait, that is good to know! I read a lot of reviews from readers of In the Woods being dissappointed in the resolution. I'm just getting into Cassie's first week in Whitehorn House. I'm suspicious of a few roommates at this point ... can't wait to see what happens!

Hahaha! I love that, "says Kindle". Mine seems to be messing with me lately, and my little dots are very moody.

message 17155: by Carol (new)

Carol Petra if you can read the last episode of Ulysses you will not have any trouble with Blindness.

message 17157: by Angeliki (new)

Angeliki (jelojelo) | 65 comments I'm reading Hard Times by Dickens! Until now one of his best books I have read...

LOL! Let's see if that last episode will stump me (even more than the others are). LOL!
.....after that I'll return to Blindness with a lighter heart and a sturdier sword (of understanding)........... LOL!

message 17159: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (closer2coma86) I just finished Wings by Aprilynne Pike. I really enjoyed it. Now i'm reading Peeps by Scott Westerfeld. I've got about 100 pages left.

message 17161: by Tammy AZ (new)

Tammy AZ (tammyaz) Started The Elegance of the Hedgehog and still reading (listening to) Undaunted Courage. I grew up learning about Lewis and Clark every year in Montana History and didn't really remember much - I'm enjoying it as an adult!

message 17162: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Lour I just finished Jane Eyre, loved it, and started The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I love that the characters aren't named and that whatever apocolyptic event happened isn't explained. Gives it a much more grittier survival feel.

Next up is The Hunger Games. My daughter and I have both been wanting to read this and it being up for discussion this month pushed me along. :)

message 17163: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) I finished The Book of Lost Things this morning and loved it! Now I'm off to browse through the discussions...:)

I'll be starting Angels & Demons and Under the Dome, and I'm so excited! I'll be in for a good reading day!

message 17164: by Cait (new)

Cait (caitertot) | 604 comments I finished The Little Stranger, which was very good.

I also read The Diaries of Adam and Eve by Mark Twain. I absolutely loved this story (it went on my favorites list). I can't believe I haven't read any Twain before now.

This morning I am starting The Wasp Factory: A Novel. And continuing on with Ulysses (almost at the 300 page mark).

message 17165: by [deleted user] (new)

I started reading Poppy Shakespeare the other day, and I'm just less than halfway through. I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would.

Just started The House at Midnight by Lucie Whitehouse. It's one of those gothic set-in-old-English-manor type books.

message 17166: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (sbez05) | 556 comments Reading The Great Gatsby for the first time. I'm definitely liking it so far, but I still think it's overrated - I don't know that I'd call it "The Great American Novel."

message 17167: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (closer2coma86) I finished Peeps by Scott Westerfeld yesterday and now I am reading The Sleeping Doll by Jeffery Deaver.

message 17168: by Writerlibrarian (new)

Writerlibrarian Detective Inspector Huss is finished and I'm diving into the second novel in this series The Torso. That will cover Sweden and Danemark for ATWi80 challenge.

Love love loving it!

message 17171: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished Hacker last night by Malorie Blackman which was only ok for me. It could have been told a lot better.

Started and Finished Right Where It Hurts by David Hill today which I liked. Quick read, only about 130 pages. Had a good story and was easy to read. It was based around a girl who harms herself.

Now I think I might go back to trying to read/finish Wuthering Heights.

I gave up on American Gods the first time I tried it. It was difficult for me to get into it too, but I ended up enjoying it the second time around. It's unique.

message 17173: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) I finished The Chronicles Of Narnia the other day, loved it; yesterday, I started House Of Day, House Of Night by Olga Tokarczuk.

Woo hoo... I finished Chronic City. Not the Lethem I am used to... overall an ok book. Just between the holidays, and the plot itself, seemed to take longer than it should have.

I will be starting "The Gates" later today.

Jayme (jayme-reads) Started The Graveyard Book last night. Already love it.

message 17178: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kg05) | 310 comments I finished Two for the Dough (Stephanie Plum, #2) by Janet Evanovich last night. I'll be starting Three To Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum, #3) by Janet Evanovich today. Would've started it last night but I kept falling asleep so I figured I might as well wait so I remembered what I was reading in the morning!

A little less than 1/2 through Connollys "The Gates" and it's really humorous! Not quite as dark as Book of Lost Things, but certainly a dark subject... I liken it to reading A.Lee Martinez, Robert Rankin, and Christopher Moore. It's very tongue in cheek!

message 17186: by Marti (new)

Marti (marjay) | 985 comments WOW finished The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. Found myself racing through the book to solve the mystery with the main characters.

Now I need to find where I put the books Lavender Morning and Holes so I can finish them.

message 17187: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) Finished the book, lucky breaks by Susan Patron. The book is geared for middle school age young ladies.

message 17188: by Tani (new)

Tani | 137 comments I am currently working on Eon: Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman, which is a young adult fantasy about a girl who disguises herself as a boy in order to become a Dragoneye, which is basically a person who is bound to one of the 12 energy dragons. When I heard about this book, the first thing I thought about was Mulan, my favorite Disney movie, so I couldn't resist reading it, and so far it isn't disappointing me.

message 17189: by Jamaie (new)

Jamaie | 66 comments Finishing "Heart-Shaped Box" by Joe Hill. I don't recommend reading this at night AT ALL. I personally was a bit freaked out the first night I made that mistake..every noise had me thinking there was a ghost in the hall..ugh!~

Starting "Hunger Games" next...or maybe "The Help"...it'll be a fight to see which book takes the dive off my bookshelf first...LOL.

Maureen About half-way through Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return, for my face-to-face book club. And I'm nearly half-way done with As Sure as the Dawn. This is the third book of the Mark of the Lion trilogy, and all of them have been page-turners.

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Still reading The Mists of Avalonbut also started The Color Purple. I saw the movie when I was about eight I think and though I thought it was really beautiful, it was sooo hard. I thought it was the age...till I started reading it on the tram to work and after only one page I knew it isn't age but the story itself. I am reading it now, about twenty years later, and find it really hard again.
