What are you reading?
Just finished The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu and restarted Beauty The Invisible EmbraceJohn O'Donohue since it had been too long since I had read the first couple of chapters. Genji was a fascinating novel and I'm taking my time with Beauty to let it more or less seep in. Excellent reading.
yikes! it's been ages since i've been on here due to the holiday. finally time to relax a bit! i was planning on making a library run tonight to pick up a stack of books, but it's been snowing all day and the commute home was awful, so i'm not sure. i do have a handful of books here at home to read, but i was hoping for some new stuff. i also got a B&N giftcard that's burning the proverbial hole in my pocket, i need to make a list for shopping soon!

I've added Gilead to my list, thanks!
Right now I'm reading Hot, Flat, and Crowded Why We Need a Green Revolution--and How It Can Renew America ,its pretty interesting .
I just started Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier and am loving it! I love the writing and am already feeling a connection to the characters! I'll also be reading Wuthering Heights in January.
Paula wrote: "Lisa, I got both "Garden Spells" and "The Sugar Queen" for my daughter for Christmas. I'm sure she'll love them, I did."I enjoyed them, especially The Sugar Queen. I put a request in for her next book at the library. It's not out until March, I think.

Melissa wrote: "I just started Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier and am loving it! I loved Rebecca. It was one of my all time favorites. I also enjoyed Mrs. DeWinter as a follow up. It was not as good as Rebecca but it was interesting.
I am currently reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman and can tell that it is going to be one of my favorite books of the year.

I'll have to reserve mine too so it won't be a long wait!
Natalie wrote: "Right now I'm reading Hot, Flat, and Crowded Why We Need a Green Revolution--and How It Can Renew America ,its pretty interesting ."I had high hopes for this book, but it's been totally disappointing so far. I'm about 3/4 of the way through. I'd love to know what you think of it when you're done.

Hope you enjoy this fun romp as much as I did. I am now a real fan of Fforde. The Eyre Affair was one of the more creative mysteries I have read from a book about a book standpoint.

I am enjoying it so far. I think I am really going to like these books.
Stephanie wrote: "Just started Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson and I am flying through it. I'm very impressed by it."I loved Speak. It is very powerful.
so last night i ended up venturing to the library and came home with 5 books. yeah!!!i started The Fixer Upper from Mary Kay Andrews, and i'm nearly finished with it. this was exactly what i needed, something light-hearted but with a good story to it. i should finish it up tonight, i don't have much more to go.
I am reading cassie edwards savage spirit
Stephanie wrote: "Just started Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson and I am flying through it. I'm very impressed by it."Speak was one of my top books of the year. I thought it was amazing.
I went to the library yesterday, and as usual, made a stunning display of my complete lack of self-control. I always go in thinking I should get just 3 or 4 books so that I still have time to read some of the books that I have on my shelves at home. I never seem to keep to that resolution. Yesterday being a prime example, I ended up 7 books.
They are:
Eon Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman
Fire by Kristin Cashore
The Servants' Quarters by Lynn Freed
Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson
The Everafter by Amy Huntley
A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby
Lament The Faerie Queen's Deception by Maggie Stiefvater
Now I get the task of figuring out which to read first. Lament and Eon: Dragoneye Reborn are both high in the running so far, but I haven't looked at Fire yet either... :D
For one reason or another, I have a ton of books I'm working through on my bedside table:Blood of Elves
Bureau 13 #1 Judgment Night
Perdido Street StationFaded Steel HeatShadow Games
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
A Princess of Mars
The Sword and the ChainSwords Against Death (Lankhmar, #2)
Cugel's Saga
Just got back from the library with:Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
The Gargoyle
That Old Cape Magic
I had to return Guernsey awhile back before I finished it so I will read the rest of it and be ready to start The Gargoyle on Friday.
I've gotten incredibly behind on here lately!I'm reading Stephen King's new book, Under the Dome, and it's really good so far!
I'm about halfway through Last Night In Twisted River, by John Irving. As he is my absolute, all-time favorite author, I'm finding this one a little disappointing. Hopefully, it will soon pick up.
Patricia--I LOVED Guernsey when I read it this past summer! I loved it so much that I asked for my very own copy of it for Christmas! :) Hope you enjoy it! JG--I am so jealous that you're reading that. I've been itching to get over to B&N to pick up a copy of it with my Christmas $! haha
Currently reading Undaunted Courage and My Most Excellent Year A Novel of Love, Mary Poppins, and Fenway Park and just finished The Stupidest Angel A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror, Version 2.0. The Stupidest Angel was just okay for me.

I just finished Forever War a couple days ago. It was a little weird. What do you think of it so far?
And what's the 50 page test?
Man, I feel like I haven't been on this thread for awhile. I finally finished If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino last night and immeadiately started Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer.
JG wrote: "I've gotten incredibly behind on here lately!I'm reading Stephen King's new book, Under the Dome, and it's really good so far!
Glad to hear you like this one JG. I got it for Christmas and am looking forward to getting into it.
I finished Marnie by Winston Graham a short time ago (5* - recommend it to everyone), and I'm going to start 84, Charing Cross Road in a while. Haven't seen the movie yet either.
Just finished Rough Country by John Sandford. While I liked it, I didn't love it. However, I do really like his Virgil Flowers character for laughs along the way in the various storylines. This rounds out my end-of-the-year total reads at 116. Whew! What a year for truly "great reads".Now on to Under the Dome by Stephen King.
84 Charing Cross Road is utterly charming. If you liked Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, I think you will like this one.
I am currently reading the second book in the Mary Russell series: A Monstrous Regiment of Women by Laurie R. King. I read the first and eighth book in this series and really enjoyed them both, so I am looking forward to reading this one.

I adore this book... and it's not a work of fiction, either, which makes it even better.
@Jessica: I'm really interested to hear what you think... I had a hard time with it.

I'm currently reading The Great Gatsby. I'm so surprised it's taken me this long to read it. I don't know how I managed to not have to read it during high school or college. I'm enjoying it so far.
Just finished Truly, Madly by Heather Webber! Loved it! Now I think I will start... Either Shutter Island or Her Fearful Symmetry. Both Christmas gifts! Tough decision!
Ah! Start Her Fearful Symmetry! I've been dying to hear what others thought of it! I'm hoping to buy it very soon!

I liked the Lily Bard books a lot. I hope you enjoy them, too.

I'm liking it so far! It is different than something I'd normally read, but I just kind of glaze over the technical/science stuff because I don't understand it. I mean, I read through it, but I don't put too much thought into it. I'm about halfway done now and I really like the character drama.
And the 50 pg. test...if I start reading a book and I'm not particularly interested in it after 50 pages, I quit reading it. I've finally gotten to the point where I figure there are so many books I want to read, why waste time reading one I don't?

Thanks Susanna. I'm not sure what I think of it yet, really. I haven't read Guernsey Literary... yet but it's on my TBR :-)

I thought it started really strong and then I just lost the spark.
