Donna, I read Shadow of the Wind a couple of months ago and it is one of my all time favorites. Loved his writing - I have Angel's Game on my TBR pile - hoping to get to it soon.
My husband and I both loved Shadow, so I gave him Angel's Game for his birthday (which means I get to read it too... heh heh heh) cant wait!

I finished Uglies. I enjoy..."
I read Rose Madder a long time ago, JG, and really liked it. I hope you enjoy it.

I have only read Anansi Boys by Gaiman and had every intention of reading American Gods -- your comments have encouraged me to make an extra effort to read it this quarter!
Anyone up for a discussion thread for Her Fearful Symmetry... since I see so many people reading it, I thought maybe someone would like to kickoff a thread in the "Wanna Discuss..." folder....

Just finished my last book and I'll be startingFaceless Killers by Henning Mankell for a group read. And tomorrow I get to go to a book festival here in Cincinnati and buy more books!

Hard to say...can you give some examples of books or movies that you found "too scary"? I personally *love* being scared and found Heart-Shaped Box interesting but not exceptionally frightening.

Lori - definitely! I finally broke down and bought it and it is next up for me as well.

Paula, I agree. It was more creepy and weird than truly scary. I'd say it was more in the paranormal realm than horror.

I just returned from the library where they had my reservation for The Girl Who Played with Fire by Steig Larsson available for pick-up. That has bumped my reading of The Help for a couple of days. I am participating in Cynthia's seasonal reading challenge and The Girl... is a second book in a two book task. The Help is my first book for a three book task, so I figure I'll try and get some points where I can.
I'm currently into I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak.

I don't know what the English translation is like but the French one was a bit out there. This is the first novel in Mankell's Wallander series it has all the faults of a first series novel and also some of the gems ideas too. I love this series because I can related to the cold and dark weather and the sleepy like town that is not what it seems like. Hope you enjoy it.

The Return looks good....click goes the mouse as she adds to her list...

Thanks, Writerlibrarian. I've noticed a bit of awkwardness in the translation so far, but nothing too bad. This is one of my group reads.

Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami
The first 2/3 of the book I would've rated 5 stars, but I had to knock off one by the end. Still a fantastic book though.
The Stepford Wives - Ira Levin
I had never read the book or seen either of the movies, so I only had a vague idea of the plot. I appreciated that because it kept me guessing as to what would happen until the very end.
Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name A Novel - Vendela Vida
Beautiful and heartbreaking book by the wife of Dave Eggers. I love her style and am looking forward to reading her other two books.
Now I'm just starting Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos. I hope it's as good as I've heard.

Cait, I think the first Stepford Wives is the best, the second one was more comedy.

Yeah Sherry, I'd agree with paranormal. I still have about 100 pages to go. Maybe I can finish in the next couple of days.
Almost at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey. I've only seen a small segment of the movie in an anthropology lecture and don't normally read sci-fi, but it's been a VERY interesting book. The last couple of pages had me a little lost but they were the most out-there, sci-fi-y parts of the book.
Next up, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Always loved the story as a kid but I've never actually read the novel, so hoping it will be good, I don't normally like romance.

Hi Cait. I loved Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name A Novel so much. I just finished it a couple of weeks ago. Since I've been raving about it I've noticed not many people area aware of it. I am glad you liked it too.

It's a shame that it's not more widely known, isn't it? I only became aware of it just recently due to the Fall Challenge (specifically the related author task). I wanted to read a book by Dave Eggers and I knew he was married to a writer, so I checked her out. I'm so glad I did.
Can I also say how awesome it is that you have Douglas Coupland on your shelf? I love him, but most people I know have no idea who he is. I think we share a lot of the same taste in books.

I really liked In the Woods, and I liked the follow up book The Likeness A Novel even more.

I know I just read Shadow of The Wind too! I found it at a thrift store for 35 cents! I loved it!!! I am glad you like it too! I will definitely be re-reading it often!!
Still working on Red Dragon by Thomas Harris... I am slowing down a little this month! Too much other stuff to do! I gotta start making more time to read!!

I just finished Shadow of the Wind too. I also really enjoyed it, but probably won't re-read it making it a 4 star for me.
Currently reading Team of Rivals and A Game of Thrones.

Thanks Cait. I am adding The Likeness to my list.
