Almost Moon is a disturbing book but after I had finished it (which I almost didn't) and digested it, I decided that I did like it. It's very different but it was like having to psychoanalyze it afterwards. It has really stuck with me. Let me know what you think when you've finished (and maybe after digesting it). : )
I finished Spot of Bother a few minuted ago. It was a page turner for me, I was dying to know what was going to happen to everyone. That family is seriously FUCKED up!
I am about to embark on what might be the biggest book Ive read this decade. The Count of Monte Cristo.....

I'm moving on to See You in 100 Years - interesting concept about a couple leaving the big city to live off the land. No television, cell phones or grocery stores -- so far it's pretty good.

Lori, I have The Count of Monte Cristo on my TBR shelf. I've heard it is an excellent read.

Finished Put What Where?!
a silly thing full of sex advice from times gone by. Very fun.
Will now read
The Uncommon Reader A Novella

Will now read

I started listening to the audio version of

It was my first Saramago, and I really liked it. I have to read more of him!
Can I recommend The Cave, Death With Interruptions and Seeing...? Seeing is the sequel to Blindness, same town, 4 years later...

Now I'm 43 pages into A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. So far so good.

Sherrie- I read Brideshead Revisited not too long ago and loved it. What are your feelings about it?
I'm halfway through Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, its good!

Awesome - thank you! I didn't know there was a sequel!

I started listening to the audio version of

I've got Drowning Ruth on my TBR. Glad to hear you like it!

Anyway, I've read a lot of dark stories lately so I'm going to lighten up and start a Terry Pratchett book, "Monstrous Regiment".
I gave up on my audio book of Sister Carrie. Just wasn't doing much for me. Yet another classic that has not borne well the test of time... (IMHO, if anyone just loved it, pls to let me know why!)
Moving on to Animal Farm (audio).
EDIT: Uncommon Reader has put me in the best mood! It's lovely!

I've been scarce on GoodReads lately as I've been very busy with my husband's books but I'm going to start posting soon.
What I'm currently reading:
The Jungle The Uncensored Original Edition | The Curse of the Mistwraith | Tigana

-- Robin The Crown Conspiracy | Avempartha | Nyphron Rising (Oct 2009)

I can't say that I loved Sister Carrie but I remember not hating it. Dreiser was heavy into the morality stories, loved showing the world what would happen if a young girl made certain decisions. It's totally bogus and overly dramatic, but it was an okay read. Have you read An American Tragedy? It's even more over-the-top. I think if you look at it from the point of view that Dreiser was a sensationalist, it helps a little. Like Upton Sinclair's The Jungle or Oil!. The story exists only to prove a point - at least that's how I look at Dreiser's and Sinclair's writing.

Thanks El. I tried to look at it from the historical, moral cautionary tale POV, but it didn't keep me interested enough. LITS and TBRITL!

I am about in the middle of Murder on Astor Place. Not sure what I think of it entirely, yet. Writing a bit pedestrian, but the mystery is fairly good so far. On the other hand, the word "suffragette" has been used ahistorically at least five times now, and that's one of my bugbears.

Peace, Sharon

I finished I Capture the Castle yesterday and started The Glass Castle A Memoir by Jeannette Walls..... I am really enjoying The Glass Castle so far, it's such an interesting read!

Allison, I read The Glass Castle about two years ago. There's so much to talk about once you've read it - you'll need to discuss it with someone!

Good going, Lori- one day when I feel ambitious, I'll tackle it! Enjoy!

Allison, I'm reading The Glass Castle too - I'm almost finished with it. It is unbelievable how these children had to grow up! I'm really enjoying the book.
