It took me a long time because I have been very busy but now I am getting back on track and am currently reading Almost Moon is a disturbing book but after I had finished it (which I almost didn't) and digested it, I decided that I did like it. It's very different but it was like having to psychoanalyze it afterwards. It has really stuck with me. Let me know what you think when you've finished (and maybe after digesting it). : )
I finished Spot of Bother a few minuted ago. It was a page turner for me, I was dying to know what was going to happen to everyone. That family is seriously FUCKED up!
I am about to embark on what might be the biggest book Ive read this decade. The Count of Monte Cristo.....

I decided to wait on TO THE NINES by Janet Evanovich, and started and can't put down THE BODIES LEFT BEHIND by Jeffrey Deaver. It is a page turner and I am almost done and I just started!!
I just finished Prayers for Sale by Sandra Dallas - it was fabulous. I was trying to read Graceling which is a YA novel but I just can't get into it.I'm moving on to See You in 100 Years - interesting concept about a couple leaving the big city to live off the land. No television, cell phones or grocery stores -- so far it's pretty good.

Finished Jessi and the Dance School Phantom - Ann M. Martin and started Sexing the Cherry - Jeanette Winterson
Finished Put What Where?!
a silly thing full of sex advice from times gone by. Very fun.
Will now read
The Uncommon Reader A Novella

I am currently reading Cry to Heaven by Anne Rice...not too far into the book yet. I am only on page 20 so we will see how it goes
Just finished
- wow, very intense and disturbing, but a great read.I started listening to the audio version of
and am back and forth between
and
, which I'm enjoying so far!
Lori wrote: "Sherrie... Blindness is one of my favorite novels, from one of my favorite authors!"It was my first Saramago, and I really liked it. I have to read more of him!
Can I recommend The Cave, Death With Interruptions and Seeing...? Seeing is the sequel to Blindness, same town, 4 years later...
I finished American Psycho and Thanks for the Memories. Now I'm 43 pages into A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. So far so good.
Claire- I enjoyed Hound of the Baskervilles, but I've enjoyed other Sherlock Holmes stories more...Sherrie- I read Brideshead Revisited not too long ago and loved it. What are your feelings about it?
I'm halfway through Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, its good!
Lori wrote: "Can I recommend The Cave, Death With Interruptions and Seeing...? Seeing is the sequel to Blindness, same town, 4 years later..."Awesome - thank you! I didn't know there was a sequel!
Giving up on Outlander (Gabaldon), The Shadow of the wind (Zafron), At Swim, two boys (O'Neill). Now moving on to The Snowball about Warren Buffet. I hate giving up on books but too little time, too many books to read....hoping The Snowball will be enjoyable.
I'm reading Academy X by Andrew Trees. Its not very good but its not bad enough to give up. Life as viewed by a teacher in a school for the privileged and rich who are to be got places in Ivy League colleges no matter how much it costs or what lies have to be told. It sounded interesting....
Winesburg Ohio suckedsuckedsucked. It's definitely taught me a lesson: classic does not automatically equal good. I started The Night Before by Lisa Jackson. It's part of the opposites challenge. After that I'm going to start on The Morning After by Lisa Jackson. So far it's not super-enthralling but it's interesting.

I finished THE BODIES LEFT BEHIND by Jeffrey Deaver and it was awesome! Now I am reading MILKWEED by Jerry Spinelli, a young adult book.
I finished "The Kind One" by Tom Epperson and really loved it. I've discovered it's being made into a movie and they've cast Casey Affleck in the lead as Danny, which is spot-on. Now I can't wait to see it because I know it'll be a great movie. Although there were scenes of graphic violence, the story also had a great heart. Reminded me of Charlie Huston's novels.Anyway, I've read a lot of dark stories lately so I'm going to lighten up and start a Terry Pratchett book, "Monstrous Regiment".
I gave up on my audio book of Sister Carrie. Just wasn't doing much for me. Yet another classic that has not borne well the test of time... (IMHO, if anyone just loved it, pls to let me know why!)
Moving on to Animal Farm (audio).
EDIT: Uncommon Reader has put me in the best mood! It's lovely!

Hello all!!!I've been scarce on GoodReads lately as I've been very busy with my husband's books but I'm going to start posting soon.

Dreiser was heavy into the morality stories, loved showing the world what would happen if a young girl made certain decisions. It's totally bogus and overly dramatic, but it was an okay read. Have you read An American Tragedy? It's even more over-the-top. I think if you look at it from the point of view that Dreiser was a sensationalist, it helps a little. Like Upton Sinclair's The Jungle or Oil!. The story exists only to prove a point - at least that's how I look at Dreiser's and Sinclair's writing.
I am almost finished with Midwives and I am really enjoying it. His writing reminds me of Jodi Picoult, who I love!
So far, Drowning Ruth is very good! This woman is pretty messed up and I think it is unfolding nicely!

Thanks El. I tried to look at it from the historical, moral cautionary tale POV, but it didn't keep me interested enough. LITS and TBRITL!

Finished The Murders of Richard III, by Elizabeth Peters, yesterday afternoon. Murder and mayhem among the supporters of Richard III (the Ricardians), c. 1974. Didn't like it quite as well as the Amelia Peabody mysteries, but still a fun way to spend an afternoon I had to spend lying down (blood pressure acting up mysteriously).I am about in the middle of Murder on Astor Place. Not sure what I think of it entirely, yet. Writing a bit pedestrian, but the mystery is fairly good so far. On the other hand, the word "suffragette" has been used ahistorically at least five times now, and that's one of my bugbears.
I just yesterday found on my bookself an old copy of Little Women / Louisa M. Allcott, and inside the signature in my mother's handwriting "From Mummy and Daddy." My mother must have given it to me as a little girl when she was still referred to as Mummy and before she was called Mum. (Mum being From England). I really should read this book!Peace, Sharon
Stephanie, I hope you enjoy Those Who Save Us. I really liked that one and that story has really stuck with me. :) I finished I Capture the Castle yesterday and started The Glass Castle A Memoir by Jeannette Walls..... I am really enjoying The Glass Castle so far, it's such an interesting read!

Allison, I read The Glass Castle about two years ago. There's so much to talk about once you've read it - you'll need to discuss it with someone!
Lori wrote: "Claire, so far it is pretty good, Im about 50 pages in, I started it this morning."Good going, Lori- one day when I feel ambitious, I'll tackle it! Enjoy!

Allison, I'm reading The Glass Castle too - I'm almost finished with it. It is unbelievable how these children had to grow up! I'm really enjoying the book.
