The main character is a 13-year old boy and his situation will completely break your heart. I pulled a book from my long-time TBR pile and have started "Master of the Delta" by Thomas Cook.

message 11461: by Serena (new)

Serena I just picked up Fallen. It looks like it will be a quick, fun read.

message 11462: by Rian (new)

Rian Finally done with term reading; have started The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. So far it's intriguing, though I'm waiting for it to hit the stride of his other novels. 200 pages in is a bit of a wait for consistent, meaty plot developments, but it's still very enjoyable along the way.

message 11463: by Dionisia (new)

Dionisia (therabidreader) | 332 comments I have just finished People of the Book and about to start The Wordy Shipmates. Library books are due on the 29th so I'm racing against the clock!

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments haven't been on in awhile, my laptop is acting up and get onto GR on my blackberry is not fun.

i hit the library tonight and came with 4 books, hopefully i get through all of them in 3 weeks. i started Time of My Life:A Novel by Allison Winn Scotch this evening, and i'm enjoying it so far.

i also picked up A Conspiracy of Paper from David Liss, Garden Spells from Sarah Addison Allen, and John Adams from David McCullough. i'm not a big non-fiction fan, but i thought i'd give this a try. i also just learned, thanks to wikipedia, that McCullough grew up where i live at now, so that's kind of neat.

off to read!

I started Snake Agent A Detective Inspector Chen Novel today and I'm not very far into it but so far it is pretty good.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Gave up on A Home for Rose - Jon Katz, just couldn't get into it this time. So I am going back to read The Brutal Art - Jesse Kellerman

Claire (proud-mum) | 3949 comments I'm currently reading Labyrinth, it is so long and needs my attention so have been reading books in between.

message 11472: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading The Woma in Black by Susan Hill. I just started it and so for so good.

message 11473: by Allison (new)

Allison I'm reading This I Believe- a collection of essays written for the NPR radio show. I'm really enjoying it because it's like a collection of short stories or poetry. Each essay is 2 or 3 pages long, so I can get through it quickly or stop easily if needed. I love how they have mixed 'famous' people's essays in with ordinary people who sent them in.
And although I may not agree with each one, I think it's amazing that they were able to sit down and write a brief essay encompassing what they truly believe.

I love listening to those stories on NPR. They always wake me up a little bit each time.

Sheryl (shashee71) | 657 comments About halfway into One Mississippi A Novel by Mark Childress . It is such a crazy little book...and I am loving every minute of it! This is the first Mark Childress book I have read, but certainly not the last!!

message 11480: by Beth (new)

Beth (bethwerling) I'm reading "Something Borrowed" by Emily Giffin. I'm about a third of the way through and it's a fun, quick read.

message 11481: by Sheryl (new)

Sheryl (shashee71) | 657 comments Beth...

I really liked Something Borrowed, but loved it even more after I read Something Blue!! If you can you should read them back to back.

message 11482: by Beth (new)

Beth (bethwerling) Thanks, Sheryl. I definitely will try to read them back to back. Thanks for the advice.

Kristin (kg05) | 310 comments im reading Dreamside now... not bad, im 100 pages in so i should finish it tomorrow..

JG (Introverted Reader) I haven't had time to get on here on a while. I've ripped through some really great books though, and I just have to list them here.

The Mystery of Grace by Charles de Lint--5 stars
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson--3 stars
I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak--4 stars
Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier--5 stars
Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan--4 stars
The Tale of Despereaux Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup and a Spool of Thread by Kate Dicamillo--5 stars
Sabriel by Garth Nix--3 stars
Graceling by Kristin Cashore--5 stars
It Happened on the Outer Banks--3 stars

I'm currently reading The Woods by Harlan Coben. I'm enjoying it, but this is the third or fourth book of his that I've read and I'm worried that he's getting formulaic. Hopefully he'll pull a big surprise out in the last half.

message 11486: by Beth (new)

Beth (bethwerling) I finished Something Borrowed last night. Now I'm waiting for Something Blue to come in from the library.

message 11487: by Sheryl (new)

Sheryl (shashee71) | 657 comments Beth and Kristin... you'll both love Something Blue if you enjoyed the first one!! A friend also loaned me Baby Proof which I thought was going to be the next one in the series, but it's not! So don't get too excited if that's what you thought too!! I was disappointed. :( I haven't read it yet though.

message 11488: by Sheryl (new)

Sheryl (shashee71) | 657 comments JG...

The Woods was one of my favorite non-Myron Bolitar books!! Hold Tight was my #1. You're right though...there are similarities between alot of his story lines, but not enough for me to get bored by any of them.

Oh no- I hate to hear that Coben is repetitive. The Woods was the first book of his that I read, and I loved it, because I hadn't read anything quite like it before. I was really impressed with the ending, and hopefully he will wrap it up differently, because he's on my list of TBR quite a bit now.

message 11490: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kg05) | 310 comments I dont have Something Borrowed yet, i just picked up Something Blue because it's on my wish list, so now i just need to wait to get Something Borrowed!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments Just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and I have to say I absolutely LOVED it!

Trying to figure out what to read next. Any ideas?

message 11492: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) I am currently reading Andrew M. Greeley's The Bishop Goes to the University; it's a pretty interesting and amusing read =D I'm slowly getting through Bram Stoker's Dracula but it's an e-book sitting on my comp and I've only been loading it here and there. Am also re-reading Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian at the moment; I had read it last year but beyond the history I wasn't very impressed with the writing and the pacing. Am hoping a re-read might change my opinion of things ;)

message 11493: by Cait (new)

Cait (caitertot) | 604 comments I finished You Suck A Love Story and I loved it, especially the character Abby Normal. Christopher Moore is one funny guy.

Right now I'm reading Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea. I've also just started getting installments of Wuthering Heights from Daily Lit.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Finished The House of Medici Its Rise and Fall last night, and it's on to The Johnstown Flood, by David McCullough, for the non-fiction.

message 11495: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (sbez05) | 556 comments I just finished Eat, Pray, Love and it felt like a chore. I needed something light to read and I'm not even close to finishing the Spring Challenge, so I am veering from my plan and fitting in some books I've been eyeing before the Summer Challenge starts. Nothing like good old indulgent reading! I'm just starting Charmed Thirds.

I loved it, too! Have you read 84 Charing Cross Road (this book seems to have inspired Guernsey)?

Dionisia (therabidreader) | 332 comments Hayes wrote: "I have "Shipmates" on my TBR... how is it?"

I finished the book last night and added a review this morning while it was still fresh. The verdict: not bad, but not great. The pacing is good and it's easy on the eyes, but Vowell's lack of focus irked me at times. If you need a crash course in Puritan history then this would be a good start.

message 11499: by Samantha McNulty (new)
