I finished The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks....loved it. And now I'm on to One Day at a Time by Danielle Steel.
I am reading Animals Make us Human--Creating the best life for animals by Temple Grandin. Great book so far and love reading it.
I am currently reading The Last Season by Eric Blehm. I love real life books. I just bought it yesterday so I haven't gotten very far but when I go do laundry later, I'll be reading!
Lori Ann wrote: "I'm about to start Watership Down. I've never read it before so I'm really looking forwar..."One of my very favorite books. Let us know how you liked it.!
Now i am reading 'the Hitchikers guide...', and finished the persuasion by jane Austen and the vampire Academy trilogy(weren't bad)

I loved the The Reader -- it is one of the books that has lingered with me long after finishing it. I've not seen the film and am somewhat reluctant to do so because I found the text so moving and also one of those books that really conjures mental pictures for you, so I'm not sure how I would like it on film.
The story is rather depressing, but it is powerful and it is a very quick, engrossing read. I feel like this book poses a lot of interesting questions about German identity after the war in a way that I had never really thought about.
I just finished My Sister's Keeper. What a book to make you think - the author really brought up hard issues. I really liked it. Am now starting on The Friday Night Knitting Club.
Fiona wrote: "I'm still reading Shogun but I'm loving it, almost up to 800 pages and all thoughts of my TBR have left me. I don't care, I'm just enjoying reading and I haven't really had this feeling for such a ..."I know this is sad...but that is the highest praise I have heard in a LONG TIME. "Its so good it made me forget about my TBR."
haha...really.
Just finished Revenge of the Spellmans, by Lisa Lutz Hilarious!!! Started Welcome to the Departure Lounge, Adventuring in Mothering Mother by Meg Federico. I am going to enjoy!!
Fiona--National Public Radio just had an author on to plug three books she loves of a particular genre. The first one she picked was "I Capture The Castle!"
Fiona wrote: "I'm still reading Shogun but I'm loving it, almost up to 800 pages and all thoughts of my TBR have left me. I don't care, I'm just enjoying reading and I haven't really had this feeling for such a ..."Hooray Fiona! This makes me happy :)
right now im reading Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist.<--- highly reccommended book.also reading romeo and juliet, kinda hard to read with the old english stuff but its pretty good.
"Safe Passage" by Ida Cook. A true story about two British sisters in their twenties, who travel back and forth to Nazi Germany organising safe passage for jews. A truly remarkable book. I cannot imagine my grandmother or mother having such guts and determination as they were, like most women, severely restricted in their upbringing and ambitions, by the values of the 1940's.
I'm reading In the Beginning Was the Ghetto Notebooks from Lodz by Oskar Rosenfeld. I'm about 115 pages in, but it's incredibly fascinating. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Holocaust literature. With that said I should also point out that it is not a happy read (it should go without saying, but you never know around here) and it is mentally tough. At the same time I think it is an important contribution to other Holocaust writers like Elie Wiesel.
Last nite, I listened to Frankenstein - Mary Shelley (audio). Going to listen to Torn Apart: The Heartbreaking Story of a Childhood Lost - James Patterson & Hal Friedman (audio).
I read Robert Goolrick's A RELIABLE WIFE in a day. Full of unexpected characters and twists and turns...and written in the style of a gothic romance. I predict a bestseller.
Just finished listening to Torn Apart: The Heartbreaking Story of a Childhood Lost - James Patterson & Hal Friedman (audio). Now I am gonna read The Reluctant Fundamentalist - Moshin Hamid.
"City of Thieves" by David Benioff. It's due back at the library in 2 days. Not sure I have time this week to read 100 pages a day but I'll give it the old college try!
Nancy wrote: "I read Robert Goolrick's A RELIABLE WIFE in a day. Full of unexpected characters and twists and turns...and written in the style of a gothic romance. I predict a bestseller."One of my book clubs has this as a giveaway. Now I'm really hoping to win!
Currently reading The Battle of the Labyrinth. Its the fourth in the Percy Jackson series and the first I've read. I now need to read the rest.
Just finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Now I'm starting to read The Raw Shark Texts, as well as listening to Stargirl on audiobook.
I have just read SORBONNE CONFIDENTIAL by Laurel Zuckerman and I highly recommend it. It's funny, fast-paced and incredibly informative.
I put Body of Evidence by Patricia Cornwell down for a while because I took out books from the library and need to read those first. I am going to pick it back up since even though I'm only 100 pages in, I already like it more than Postmortem. Now, I'm reading The Price by Alexandra Sokoloff. I enjoyed her first novel The Harrowing, and The Price seems to be the same type of atmospheric, supernatural novel. So, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it.
I am about one hundred pages into [Book: The Book of Lost Things]. It is quite fascinating. I also started [Book: I am Messenger] by Markus Zusak.
I loved that book. I like most of Lippman's books, but her stand alones are my favorites.
Lisa wrote: "Just started listening to "What The Dead Know" by Laura Lippman"
I've just started The Sea of Monsters. It's the second book in the Percy Jackson series. I loved The Lightning Thief and thought I'd continue the series.
Cait wrote: "Just finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Now I'm starting to read The Raw Shark Texts, as well as listening to Stargirl on audiobook."That's in my waiting pile. Have you read the whole series? If not, I'm glad I'm not the only one still working on Harry Potter! I read one about one a year.
Suzanne - I really liked Sunday's at Tiffany's. Not as good as Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, but still really enjoyed it. I finished Danielle Steel's One Day at a Time....it was just okay....not one of her best books. Now I'm going to finish One For the Money.
Vicki- I hope you really enjoy The Book of Lost Things. It is one of my most favorite books, and I enjoyed it immensely- so much so, I had to go out and buy it before I'd even finished it!
Just finished A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and was so moved my it. I keep missing its presence. I'm almost finished with Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. Wonderful advice on writing and makes me fall in love with words over and over. Also just started Personal History about Katharine Graham.
I read Widow's Walk A Spenser Novel last night. It was up to the usual Robert B. Parker standard. I have no idea what book I might read next.
I started The New Policeman last night and will probably finish it in an hour or two. I think I'll pick up True Blood after that for a change of pace.
I'm reading The Sandman Vol. 1 Preludes and Nocturnes, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Sense And Sensibilityand listening to The Time Traveler's Wife.
Alisha wrote: "I put Body of Evidence by Patricia Cornwell down for a while because I took out books from the library and need to read those first. Kim wrote: "Have you read the whole series? If not, I'm glad I'm not the only one still working on Harry Potter! Luckily I was able to work books 3-7 into the Spring Challenge.
The only bad thing is that I've been spoiled on a couple of big plot points. It's understandable considering how long the series has been out and how popular it is. I've tried to stay away from things that might spoil me, but sometimes things pop up at the most random times (like on a youtube video that had nothing to do with HP). I recommend staying out of the "books that make you cry" thread too. I still enjoy the books very much, but the impact of some of the more emotional aspects of the story has been lessened as a result.
Allison wrote: "Vicki- I hope you really enjoy The Book of Lost Things. It is one of my most favorite books, and I enjoyed it immensely- so much so, I had to go out and buy it before I'd even finished it!"I am definitely enjoying it so far!
Coco wrote: "Just finished A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and was so moved my it. I keep missing its presence. I'm almost finished with Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. Wonderful advice on writing and ..."I loved Bird by Bird. I understand completely how you feel. I amd glaf that you liked A Heartbreaking Work of a Staggering Genius. I have it but have not read it yet. From what I see it gets mixed reviews.
I'm reading Ladies of Liberty by Cokie Roberts, Personal History by Katharine Graham and Citizen Coors by Dan Baum. Whew. I need to pick something lighter off my TBR shelves!!
I'm currently reading Go Down, Moses by William Faulkner and The Secret Adversary by Agatha Christie. The Faulkner is a little slow going but still enjoyable, though not as good as The Sound and The Fury.
Coco - I loved A Heartbreaking Work, too. It's up there among the books near and dear to my heart. Vicki - good luck with it! I also heard mixed reviews - I think a lot of people just don't like Dave Eggers all that much, but I personally really do. For a different type of book from him, you can check out What is the What.I am currently reading Two for the Dough and after the non-fiction I just read, I'm enjoying the light read!
