Jamie I'm reading Stargirl and Notes from a Small Island. I should be able to finish the former tonight, but so far it's not as good as I was hoping it would be. I'll be starting Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time as soon as it makes it to my libary.

I agree, Linda.

Allison (sockweasel) | 432 comments I just finished Fire in the Blood by Irene Nemirovsky... it's was okay, but I never really got into it.

I'm happy to hear such good things about Those Who Save Us. I just picked it up from the library and I'll be starting it tonight. :)

It sounds great! I just put my request in at the library.

Jessica | 1000 comments I finished up The Almost Moon tonight. I can see why people would be disturbed by it but it didn't really bother me that much. Guess I'm just the odd one out.

I am now onto My Dearest Friend: Letters of John and Abigail Adams.

You'll love Obsessed by Ted Dekker I loved it. It has been a while since I have read it but from what I can remember it was very good. I love Dekker books. Have you read any Frank Peretti books because they are good too.

message 10058: by Sherrie (new)

Sherrie (syellico) Just picked up The Book Thief at the library - can't wait to start!! I have about 100 pages left in The Sleeping Beauty Proposal before I can start. hurry hurry!

message 10059: by Leanna (new)

Leanna (leannerd) | 73 comments I finished The End by Lemony Snicket last night (and posted a review in my blog!) and am ready to start The Constant Princess by Philippa Gregory. My mom loves her books and, since she's reading the series that I suggested to her (A Series of Unfortunate Events), I figured I could read the ones she suggested to me, even though I don't typically go for historical fiction. We'll see how it goes, though. :D

yay Nancy! I really think you'll love it, it is FANTASTIC. I was hoping, when I read, that it would live up to the hype...and it exceeded my expectations.

message 10065: by Mary (new)

Mary | 203 comments I just finished American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld and while I really, really enjoyed it and highly recommend it, I have to admit that some of the more explicit passages gave me the willies!

I am now on to The Reader.

message 10066: by Rebbie (new)

Rebbie | 140 comments I'll be interested to read how you like THE READER. I've been tempted to get it, but I heard the movie was well acted, but the story was very depressing. I'll look for your feedback on the book.

It was good and I read it in a couple of hours between rushing hither and thither.

Samantha McNulty I'm in the middle of Too Many Mothers by Roberta Taylor. Its really good!

Hoping to book-splurge soon though! Easter's on its way - along with money from relatives.

I haven't seen the movie yet, either but heard that it was good. Will report back after I finish the book - have patience I'm kind of a slow reader!

message 10076: by Ann (new)

Ann (lovabook) | 17 comments I just finished reading mark Haddon's new book "A spot of Bother". A funny fast paced story with some underlying questions about love and commitment. The style of this book is different from his last one "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time." which gave some insight in to how someone with autism thinks and more poignantly, but left unsaid, the strain an autistic child places on it's parents and their marriage.

Dorie (dorieann) | 430 comments I finished "Dog On It" and thought it was well done. The dog narrator was portrayed somewhat realistically, which was a nice surprise. I'm now going to finally finish "The Fiery Cross" by Diane Gabaldon, a book I started 7 years ago.

Allison (sockweasel) | 432 comments Maria wrote: "i agree with your thoughts on Fire in the Blood. for as small as the book was, it took an effort to get thru it. "

I'm glad to hear you felt the same way. It seemed to get a lot of great reviews on Goodreads, so I thought maybe it was just me. But I totally agree... it took me waaay too long to finish, especially for being just over 100 pages.

It took me forever to finish Outlander. Whew! It was a long book. It was entertaining but a little too much corporal punishment for my tastes.

Now on to the potato peel book.

message 10081: by Kelly (new)

Mosca | 828 comments Finally did decide to read Anathem by Neal Stephenson. It's taken a while to process the language. But that language has become a necessary background for a compelling plot. I'm enjoying this.

Paula | 1098 comments I'm reading "Night Passage" Robert B. Parker. I've always enjoyed the TV series with Tom Selleck (sp) so decided to read the books. It reads like it was made for Selleck. I'm liking it so far.

message 10087: by Debby (new)

Debby | 3804 comments A GR friend highly recommended Gods in Alabama by Joshilyn Jackson (her 1st book). I found her 2nd book, Between Georgia at the library and just finished listening to it. WONDERFUL. I didn't want the book to end. I pick up Gods in Alabama tomorrow from the library and will start it immediately.

message 10088: by Ann (new)

Ann (lovabook) | 17 comments I agree. The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Society was a very good read. A softly written book with a heavy message. I avoid war books as I find them sad and disturbing but this story (written in the form of letters to and fro) simply described it as it was and how the characters overcame it

message 10089: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments I can't concentrate lately, but I just started reading Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill - my brother gave it to me last night. Hopefully once this semester ends, I can get some real reading done!

message 10090: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I finished Looking for Alaska by John Green a few hours ago. I loved it! Books like that remind me why I love YA novels. It was a compelling story with extremely flawed characters (which I love). I'm looking forward to picking up more from John Green soon.

Now I'm reading Body of Evidence by Partricia Cornwell. It's the second book in the Kay Scarpetta series. I'm not too far into it yet, but it seems to me that it's going to be better than the first one (which I had mixed feelings about).

JG (Introverted Reader) I finished the book I borrowed from my dad.

I read One Child. It was short but a difficult read because of the subject matter. It's the true story of a six-year-old girl and the abuse she survived and her healing process. Not easy, but it felt important.

Now I'm reading Salt A Novel. It's a book set in my area, and I do generally love those.

message 10092: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I am finding it hard to concerntrate on The Brutal Art - Jesse Kellerman. So I am trying to concerntrate and read the following few books Tethered - Amy McKinnon, Confessions of a Fallen Angel - Ronan O'Brien & The Reluctant Fundamentalist - Moshin Hamid

message 10093: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 1 comments I started reading Drums that dance in the dark by Nduka Onwugbute. For starters, I am not one for play reading because there seems to be a lot of talking and you can easily miss what a character might have said, as I did.

Anyway, after reading the first scene, I had to go back to the prologue, which I had not bothered to read in the first place (force of habit). There was no connection between the two, which was disappointing.

But I did sense a feeling of detachment; I don't know how Gada could have injured her brother, just by learning how to dance. And I have a feeling that death looms as a result. I'll keep you posted.

message 10094: by Samantha McNulty (new)

Samantha McNulty Currently reading The Battle of the Labyrinth. It's the first book I've read in the series. I got it from the library, so there you go. Its good, but I think I would have to start from the beginning of the series to fully enjoy it.

I think I will be starting Pride and Prejudice or The Ruby in the Smoke after this, depending on my mood.

message 10095: by Kim (new)

Kim (catmommie) Point Blank by Catherine Coultier is very good. I've never read her before, and she was highly recommended and I can see why. I may try her romances once day.

message 10096: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Just finished Fidali's Way by George Mastras. Some novels you burn through and think well that was a great read, now let's move on to the next and don't look back. This one will stay with me for quite awhile. I love that it opened my eyes to aspects of the eastern culture of which I had no knowledge. Descriptions of the landscape are so vivid that I feel like I have walked the terrain. I would definitely recommend that people give this book a try.

I hope you like Keeping Faith! Although I've only read four of Picoult's books, I think that's probably my favorite of those I've read (granted, My Sister's Keeper is a close second).

message 10098: by Leila (new)

Leila (justsortofreading) I've started to read The Watsons by Jane Austen. It's one of her unfinished novels but I am liking it so far. I need to read more Austen novels. I have only read P&P which I loved and I have seen many film/tv adaptions of her works and always enjoyed them. Shall be interesting to read an unfinished work though :) It's fun though to always see the name "Emma Watson" (the protagonist). I guess Harry Potter has ruined my life a bit when I cannot even see a name without thinking of the actress who plays Hermione :p

message 10099: by alicia (new)
