What are you reading?

I just finished my first time! It was very enjoyable!
Emily, I have Lolita here, but havent read it yet. I have, however, read three other Nabokov novels... and would expect that Lolita will be a great read!

Hope you like it! Its one of my favorites in the series."
It's one of my faves too, if not my most favourite... I think that everything changed when you read PoA, suddenly it wasn't a comfortable little children's story any more.
One of my favorites too. And I so agree with you Fiona, everything changes with it. And it´s great after reading Chamber of Secrets that I think it´s my less favorite of all.

Fiona, I thought you loved ICTC and were recommending it highly! I am reading it and really like it! Its going pretty fast for me.

So glad you're liking it! Yay! Makes me so happy."
So there are 2 Fionas? LOL. I think there might be another Claire on here too!

:-) Thank you Liz. Hope you try some of his others, they are very special and authentic.

I loved the movie In her shoes, but haven't read the book..yet.

That's such a delightful book. Reading it made me hungry though, but oh, the story was greattt!

I own American Psycho but havent read it yet.

Me, too. I always really liked the movie but the book is even better.

Yep. That's one!

I can't wait to see Watchmen! We have the book in our bathroom, so I may have to borrow it to read in another room. It seems awkward but my male roomates like to read while they poop, ha ha.

i went in to the book store to get The Reader but was disappointed at the size of it. I like big fat reads so I get my money's worth. The Reader is as short as a shopping list and as I browsed through it, I had pretty much read it. I was put off by the older woman having an affair with a young boy. Did anyone else feel this way? Years later, the question arises, i she an innocent victim caught up in one of the worst times in modern history? I think not. She had no conscience when she seduced a young boy did she, which makes me wonder at the other things. What do others think? Not withstanding that the storyline is just the vehicle for the bigger questions.

I want to read both of those. I saw you posted a comment right below--was that regarding Like Water for Chocolate?
And April, I don't think it's awkward. A lot of people keep literature in the bathroom--I like to curl up in a hot bath with a good book.
Ann, if you are trying to discuss the novel, you might get better feedback here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/8...

Finished The Fourth Bear--I just love Jasper Fforde's sense of humor.
Angela's Ashes--Not as depressing as I thought it would be. It was a good read and I'll be hopping over to the discussion thread next.
Finally got started on The Audacity of Hope and I'm about halfway through. Interesting and readable, but I can't read it in big chunks. I'm having to break it up with other books.
I think I'll also start the next in a series of westerns my dad loaned me.

Ok, and you are Fiona who is trying to get through ICTC (or the one who recommends it)! :)

I gave it five stars. This book is for the courageous because it can be painful to read at times---the powerful prose and intense story line lead the reader through some rough emotional country. But on balance this is a tale of redemption on a most basic human level.
Still not sure what to read next.

I finished The Invention of Air and Patricia McKillip's Alphabet of Thorn. I recommend the latter to fantasy readers. Now, I'm reading A Short History of Medicine (which is exactly as billed). And, I'm back to The Bridge of Birds, another fantasy novel that is rather unique and very engaging.

JG - I was the same way with AOH. I ended up really liking it, but it took me a long time to get through it and I had to mix it up with other books as well - and normally I'm a one-book-at-a-time kind of gal. :)

Lori, you're so sensible. (and helpful. and stuff.)

Yes Liz, thats what I said about Like Water for Chocolate - Laura Equivel

it has been four years ago that i read rebecca, wonder what it was about. I only remember that I liked it...but can't remember the story.

I'm having trouble concentrating on one thing lately.

Glad you're enjoying this one. It was one of my favorites last year.
