What are you reading?

Thanks for the thumbs up, Linda. I'm still on page one, but just because I was tired and bleary-eyed yesterday. I'm sure once I get into it, I'll love it.

Beth Ann~ I LOVED The Book Thief! One of my absolute favorite books.
I am still enjoying A Thousand Splendid Suns. I have so much school work to do that I'm barely getting any time to read though, which is a bummer!
I think I will join you girls who are reading Outlander! I have it on my shelf waiting to be read. I'll join you in a week and a bit when I have my reading week break from school (yay!)

Now I am reading WHAT IS THE WHAT by Dave Eggers. It has been on my tbr pile forever!!!

About the Reluctant Fundamentalist - I liked the book, and like you, I think I was done in about a day or so. Such a quick read. I too was disappointed in the end, but I just figured that with the entire tone of the book and all of the conversations, that the reader was supposed to make up their own mind about the end.

Well, I just couldn't get into it and I didn't care about the protagonist, which is a death sentence for me.

YES, Fiona, and I LOVED IT!!!! I loved that book so much, maybe I expected something equally as fantastic with MESSENGER. I also never finished it, which might have changed my mind...
Maybe I should try it again?!!?

LOL - Going through those posts is how I get all my nuggets for the TBR file - so I can't "skip them". Do I sound OCD ;-p "
If you are Robin, you're in good company!
I'm crazy as HECK.

Vicki~ Glad to hear you liked 1000 Spendid Suns. Good luck deciding what to read next, that is always fun! :)

I've just got Johnathan Kaplan's the Dressing Station (a memoir of a surgeon's chronicle of war and medicine) and Chelsea Handler's My Horizontal Life. Not sure which I will start with or even if I will read either/both. That's the advantage of owning a bookshop - I don't put read books back in stock but I do put books back that don't grab me in the first few pages.

I watched an interview with her once and can imagine that she's got an amazing story!

Alisha, I've added True Stories of Law and Order: SVU to my TBR. I absoultley LOVE that show. I'm actually watching my DVD's of it right this second, haha!

Robin - Julie and Julia was just "OK" and the sustained tone was rather whiny. I wouldn't bother picking it up again."
I agree about this book. It was really dumb and the character annoying, and I could never kill a lobster.

Did you like Beedle the Bard? I just bought it and haven't seen much about it

Mary, as I have never read a J.K. Rowling book, I thought it was ok in places. But weird as you read a part of a story and then you get feedback adn not quite understanding the feedback.
HAPPY READING

Maybe, re-try and in a different frame of reading it and see if you still come to the same conclusion.

Robin, thats the sort of impression I got. Too fictional and not quite there in characters.

Starting -Out to Canaan by Jan Karon.

I would like to read The Book Theif but I am hesitant, what do you think of it if you've read it?

Beth Ann,
Please drop the hesitation and read Book Theif. It is wonderful. I loved Outlander as well.
As far as Revolutionary Road goes, not so sure I'm gonna see the movie. I'm just gonna read the book. Not sure why. It's getting great accolades, yet I"m not into it for some reason.

Will do. I am about 30 pages into it and at this point don't see it as one of those books that I can race through. I think part of the problem is I am waiting for a book to come in the mail that I will be reading for the B&N book club and so I am a bit hesitant to start anything else since I still have the Stephen King book to complete as well. I get charged by reading several books at once and am reluctant to go there right now. My mind in in slo-mo funk.

Ashley I loved P.S.I Love You it's been one of my faves for awhile now.Even though the movie is different I just love the movie as well. It's my faves tear jerker.I just watched it again yesterday and it still makes me cry.

Are you enjoying it now, Fiona? I am LOVING the Messenger. And I loved Book Thief too. They are totally different, but his writing style is certainly unique and very entertaining I think.
Carrie - I love the protagonist in the Messenger. I just want to pinch both of his cheeks!

I sniffled through a good chunk of that movie! I didn't expect it to be so sad, but so good.

I also want to read Pay it Forward - LOVE that movie.

That's the one! I really liked it too. I felt the same way at the start, there wasn't really much happening and it took me a bit to get into it. But then it got good and creepy! :)

Now I am reading WHAT IS THE WHAT by Dave Eggers. It has been on my tbr pile forever!!!"
Ann - good luck with What is The What. I thought it was an amazing book and truly think everyone should read it. However, as a word of caution - it's pretty gruesome at times. You may want to keep a lighter book on the side as well - some parts are extremely hard to stomach. That said, good luck with the book - such an important message! And Dave Eggers is a wonderful writer.

JG wrote: "That's what I keep hearing. The list is helping so far. I just read four of Levin's cows' names and had to shake my head. Who cares? But otherwise, so far, so good."

Next I'm going to finish a book I was meant to have read by last Wednesday, The Ghost Road. I also hope to finish E.M. Forster's A Room with a View by Tuesday, as that is when my second semester classes begin.

I'm sorry to say this book did "nothing for me" - I expected so much more from it but found it bland which is definitely not what I was expecting.

C.S. Lewis is one of the authors (Tolkien the other) that got me into fantasy. Later in the series the children build a castle near the sea called "Cair Paravel" when we bought a beach house on the coast (Emerald Isle NC) we named it that as well ;-)

LOL - going from JS&MN to Gursney is like going from a 10 course meal to an amuse bush. You'll breeze through Gursney - and I think you will like it - enjoy.

Robin - Julie and Julia was just "OK" and the sustained tone was rather whiny. I wouldn't bother picking it up again."
I agree about this book. It was really dumb and the character annoying, and I could never kill a lobster. .."
I think giving it up at 100 pages was probably the right choice - it just was doing nothing for me and agree with the whinning.

I also want to read Pay it Forward - LOVE that movie."
Except the very very very end ;-(

I heard the Mark of the Lion trilogy is excellent. There is another one with Garden in the title. Can't remember the exact name of it. It looks good though! I may have to add that to my TBR shelf.

I agree, Robin. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch that movie again because of that.

LOL, Robin, you may be right. I am about 60 pages in right now and I feel like it's going so fast. But I do really like it thus far.
