Thanks for the thumbs up, Linda. I'm still on page one, but just because I was tired and bleary-eyed yesterday. I'm sure once I get into it, I'll love it.

Leah (ling_ling) | 226 comments I'm almost done with State of Denial Bush at War, Part III my nonfiction fix for January.. I am going to the library tomorrow to look for a book called Moon Called as well as a few others but I haven't picked specifics yet..

Allison (sockweasel) | 432 comments Robin~ You are such a superstar!! I can't believe you read and replied to all those posts! :) Awesome! Hope you like A Dirty Job when you get to it. :)

Beth Ann~ I LOVED The Book Thief! One of my absolute favorite books.

I am still enjoying A Thousand Splendid Suns. I have so much school work to do that I'm barely getting any time to read though, which is a bummer!

I think I will join you girls who are reading Outlander! I have it on my shelf waiting to be read. I'll join you in a week and a bit when I have my reading week break from school (yay!)

message 8055: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Oh lord, watch out, the discussion's getting crazy in that thread. We might have to give it a PG-13 (who am I kidding, an R) rating.

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I finished THE ICE HOUSE and it was ok.
Now I am reading WHAT IS THE WHAT by Dave Eggers. It has been on my tbr pile forever!!!

Jenna | 224 comments Lori...
About the Reluctant Fundamentalist - I liked the book, and like you, I think I was done in about a day or so. Such a quick read. I too was disappointed in the end, but I just figured that with the entire tone of the book and all of the conversations, that the reader was supposed to make up their own mind about the end.

message 8058: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns... I loved it. Now I am at this rare stage, where I dont know what I am reading next...

message 8059: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments Carrie - Why didn't you like I am the Messenger? I've been looking forward to reading it.

Well, I just couldn't get into it and I didn't care about the protagonist, which is a death sentence for me.

message 8060: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments Carrie, have you read The Book Thief - Markus Zusak?

YES, Fiona, and I LOVED IT!!!! I loved that book so much, maybe I expected something equally as fantastic with MESSENGER. I also never finished it, which might have changed my mind...

Maybe I should try it again?!!?

Melissa (sweetmelissa818) I'm still working on JS&MN. I'm about 2/3 of the way through. And I'm reading The Elite by Jennifer Banash. It's lighter YA reading for a break from Jonathan Strange!

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I finished "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe", I liked it, especially the last chapters. Now, I'm reading True Stories of Law & Order SVU (I liked the first eight seasons of the show; now I think the newer seasons are crap) since I was always interested in the "ripped from the headlines" storylines of the show as opposed to the entirely fictional ones.

message 8065: by Allison (new)

Allison (sockweasel) | 432 comments Laura~ LOL! That's too funny. :)

Vicki~ Glad to hear you liked 1000 Spendid Suns. Good luck deciding what to read next, that is always fun! :)

message 8066: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I read the model Alek Wek's biography yesterday. I wasn't expecting much but it was fantastic. She grew up in Sudan as an ugly girl and lived for a while with tribal people. The book was ghosted but the very bright and caring Alek had a hell of a story to relate.

I've just got Johnathan Kaplan's the Dressing Station (a memoir of a surgeon's chronicle of war and medicine) and Chelsea Handler's My Horizontal Life. Not sure which I will start with or even if I will read either/both. That's the advantage of owning a bookshop - I don't put read books back in stock but I do put books back that don't grab me in the first few pages.

message 8067: by Maureen (new)

Maureen I'm reading Blue Latitudes: Boldly Going Where Capt. Cook Has Gone Before by Tony Horwitz. (It's for my face-to-face book club.) I'm generally enjoying it so far - learning tons about countries I knew little to nothing about before (e.g. Tahiti, New Zealand).

Alisha, I've added True Stories of Law and Order: SVU to my TBR. I absoultley LOVE that show. I'm actually watching my DVD's of it right this second, haha!

Mary, as I have never read a J.K. Rowling book, I thought it was ok in places. But weird as you read a part of a story and then you get feedback adn not quite understanding the feedback.

HAPPY READING

Beth Ann,
Please drop the hesitation and read Book Theif. It is wonderful. I loved Outlander as well.
As far as Revolutionary Road goes, not so sure I'm gonna see the movie. I'm just gonna read the book. Not sure why. It's getting great accolades, yet I"m not into it for some reason.

Will do. I am about 30 pages into it and at this point don't see it as one of those books that I can race through. I think part of the problem is I am waiting for a book to come in the mail that I will be reading for the B&N book club and so I am a bit hesitant to start anything else since I still have the Stephen King book to complete as well. I get charged by reading several books at once and am reluctant to go there right now. My mind in in slo-mo funk.

Ann - good luck with What is The What. I thought it was an amazing book and truly think everyone should read it. However, as a word of caution - it's pretty gruesome at times. You may want to keep a lighter book on the side as well - some parts are extremely hard to stomach. That said, good luck with the book - such an important message! And Dave Eggers is a wonderful writer.

message 8087: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I'm about 3/4 through A Dirty Job A Novel. It came in from the library (finally) and I have seriously dropped everything else to read it. The first seven pages alone is one of the top five funniest things I've ever read.

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 218 comments that was my biggest problem with the book. All that totally unnecessary and boring info that really didnt further the plot

Claire (clairebear8) | 514 comments Yes, Heather, I really like her too. Have you read Redeeming Love yet? That is SO good - I couldn't put it down. This is my second (.....Shofar Blew) book that I am reading of hers but I look forward to reading more.

message 8091: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Redeeming Love is one of my all time favorites, but I read The Scarlet Thread by her, and its one of my least favorites! I think its because it concerned marital infidelity and I HATE reading about that...so I was probably biased against it. I really want to read her Mark of the Lion trilogy.

message 8092: by Liz (new)

Liz I just finished P.S. I Love You which I primarily enjoyed, apart from serious overuse of the word "giggle."
Next I'm going to finish a book I was meant to have read by last Wednesday, The Ghost Road. I also hope to finish E.M. Forster's A Room with a View by Tuesday, as that is when my second semester classes begin.

C.S. Lewis is one of the authors (Tolkien the other) that got me into fantasy. Later in the series the children build a castle near the sea called "Cair Paravel" when we bought a beach house on the coast (Emerald Isle NC) we named it that as well ;-)
