This is an Alfred Slote book called My trip to Alpha I. I don't know how to make a link, sorry!
Cathy, just Googled it and looked at the Amazon blurb and picture. I think you are right. The book cover rekindles it all. Thanks.
I read a book when I was growing up and I can't remember what it was called, who wrote it, etc. I'm assuming it was Children or YA science fiction.
In this Sci-fi book, the MC (a boy, I think) was on Earth or Mars, and ended up getting sent off to live with his Aunt or something in Alpha Centauri (not sure if this is the real place, but it's what comes to mind). On his home planet/station, he is taken to a room where he lays down and goes to sleep during the transport. He wakes up on the other station, but a bunch of odd things happen. The MC puts the pieces together one by one and comes to the realization that he isn't really "him," but an Android copy. The real MC is still at home in some sort of deep sleep.
That's the extent of what I remember. Any help would be appreciated.
