It's not easy! I don't have a handle on it yet, but I'm trying.

Sorry, I have the corner. :)

Kaye George | 33 comments Actually, that's the problem. You can't stay in the corner. You have to come out and promote yourself. Ugh.

message 305: by Agent (new)

Agent S.D. | 9 comments Well, I'll just have to come out of my corner and have a panic attack. ;)

Whoa! Marketing is time consuming to start with - but it is fun. Check out author Tymber Dalton's blog on Goodreads - some weeks back she posted an excellent blog on marketing for beginners. Smashwords also has an excellent guide on marketing. Everyone has to learn. Look on it as an empowering process - and enjoy!

A writer - cowering in a corner? This is new. Try first an FB author page linked to Twitter. Alert all your friends to 'like' your page. Join a few book sites and mention your book. Start a blog. Then put an ad on FB and Google - and you're away. And there's loads of info on the net. The trick is patience and tenacity. It's a long process but if you keep at it, you'll see results. Good luck!

They are travel adventure books called Amanda in Arabia and Amanda in Spain. You can check them out here http://www.ireadiwrite.com/Books/Aman... or on my website www.darlenefoster.ca Would love to hear what you think of them. Happy writing!

message 321: by Renee (new)

Renee (rjmiller) Hi, I'm Renee. I recognize a few of you from Twitter and other groups here on Goodreads. I'm from Tweed, Ontario. I write fiction, but I also freelance, writing online content for various sites to keep my kids fed and clothed.

Right now I'm preparing a book about the craft of writing, which I co-authored with Carlos J. Cortes. We're hoping to release it in September (barring any major catastrophes). Scared to death, of course, but looking forward to the experience. Now, I'm going to check out your very interesting discussions.

M. (saylor) | 5 comments I am Saylor Billings. I am just overwhelmed by the amount of information sharing and good will on this website. I wish I had found it ages ago. I just published the first book, Saint Charles Place, (for ebooks and am waiting for my proof to come in to make it available in paperback) of a 8 book series called The O Line Mysteries. I look forward to meeting new indie authors and reading a lot of indie books from here.

My debut novel is Earth Bound, published as an ebook on Kindle and Nook - I'm really crammed for time to market it properly right now, but the Kirkus review and first readership reviews have been very good. I'm glad to have found this forum.Earth Bound

Lisa Rivero (lisarivero) | 3 comments Hello! I've been lurking and reading here for awhile (thanks for such great energy and info!) and am ready formally to join in the discussions.

My name is Lisa Rivero, and I am getting ready to launch on Sept. 1st my first book as an indie author: Oscar's Gift, a work of historical fiction for middle grades: http://lisarivero.com/oscars-gift/

I've previously published four books the traditional way, so self-publishing is new for me. I've decided on CreateSpace for a print version and ebooks versions on as many platforms as I can format for. I must say that the process so far has been a ton of fun.

Glad to be here!

J.L. Murphey (JLMurphey) | 21 comments Hi all,
Just joined you. I'm a indie author with a traditional published background. Decided to try something new this year. I've got 2 novels here in GR- "Escape from Second Eden" which is an espionage suspense genre and "The Sacrificial Lamb" which is southern fiction suspense. I use assorted pen names (J.L. Murphey, Jolee Morriss, GrandmaJAM)for fiction. They are available in e-format through smashwords and paperback through createspace/amazon. But everyone calls me Jo.

I'm also getting ready to release a new zombie book, "Zombie Apocalypse: Redemption" on the 31st via my blog www.jomurphey.blogspot.com . It's in the suspense horror genre (Doh!). This will be the first series type novel I've published.

I also have a children's book coming out in two weeks, "Who Stole Baby Ruth" on createspace and amazon.

What can I say, the beauty of being indie is I'm able to write what I want and publish what I want. Traditional publishers lock you into one genre.

I'm at work on a second novel, which I hope to complete within the next two months - or so - lol. We all know how that goes! It's nice to "meet" everyone!

Natalie (nataliekreinert) | 12 comments Hello, my name is Natalie Keller Reinert and I write fiction. I just published my debut novella, a "The Head and Not The Heart" via Smashwords. It deals with the relationship between the horse-obsessed and their horses and is set in the horse-racing industry. I'm looking into bringing it out in paperback soon!

After moving to New York City to work at Aqueduct Racetrack, I now spend most of my days at a desk overlooking the Manhattan skyline, where I'm now working on a novel set in the sport of Three-Day-Eventing, about a precocious trainer who thinks she knows it all.

Mark Rice (metallicdreams) | 41 comments Good on you, Bob, for following your dream and not giving up. There's an old Zen saying, "Do what you love, and money will follow." Very simple, but there's a lot of truth in it. You have a passion for your stories, and that will shine through in your writing. Good luck!
