C.L.R. Dougherty | 45 comments My name is Charles (C.L.R.) Dougherty. I've written and published two suspense novels, one non-fiction book about sailing in the Caribbean, and one short story. I'm at work on the second book in a thriller series set in the Caribbean right now. I'm new at this, and looking forward to learning how it all works.

My wife and I live on a sailboat. We've been cruising the islands of the Eastern Caribbean since 2004. Before that, we spent 4 years exploring the U. S. East Coast and the Bahamas.

We keep a sailing blog, http://www.voyagesoftheplayactor.blog... for anyone who wants a look at our life as sea gypsies.

Marta Szemik (martaszemik) | 20 comments Hi Everyone,
My name is Marta Szemik, a newb indie. I just published Two Halves end of November and now as any Indie I'm working on the marketing :) I just found IBC yesterday and have been going through the site until now. So wonderful to see successful indies sharing their knowledge. Hopefully I can one day add my 2 cents as well.

Two Halves

Greta Burroughs (gretab) Welcome Marta,
Marketing is tougher than writing a book! That's my 2 cents worth.... :)

Marta Szemik (martaszemik) | 20 comments Thanks Greta! That's what I'm finding too, but working on it day and night (and writing). :)

Lisa (lisabethdarling) | 2 comments The Heart of War by Lisa Beth Darling
Book #1 in the OF WAR Series of romantic/erotic paranormal thrillers. If you like Greek Mythology this series is for you. Come along for a journey of action, lust, love, rage, and redemption with Ares God of War and Magdalena MacLeod a 1/2 human 1/2 fey woman. Read the reviews here on GoodReads, on Amazon.com and others. Each story in this series is just $0.99 through KINDLE until 12/25. Fall in love with Ares and Alena, they're guaranteed to keep the cold winter months steamy. :)

Christmas Eve on Olympus (OF WAR) by Lisa Beth Darling As a special holiday gift you can get "Christmas Eve on Olympus" a holiday-themed short story FREE just go to http://www.moonsmusings.com/lbdarling... and download at will until 12/25/2011. Fans of this series will enjoy the fluffy/romantic/steamy little enhancement to the series. Those who haven't read the series will (hopefully) get a nice little glimpse between Ares, Alena, and Raven. This story is NOT typical of the entire series which contains several scenes of graphic sex and violence.

Greta Burroughs (gretab) I'm glad I'm not the only one that is confused... it took me an hour to find my own author page...

message 516: by C.L.R. (new)

C.L.R. Dougherty | 45 comments Goodreads has so much to offer that it's no wonder it's a bit confusing. It's the best site for authors and readers that I've found so far. The best thing about it is the responsiveness of the people involved. Everyone I've encountered has been welcoming and helpful.

First, you have joined a great group. Beyond this one, I suggest you join groups that specialize in genres in which you like to read or write. In addition, there are a number of groups that specialize in mutual help for Indie author/publishers or in connecting authors and readers. There are many - check the groups listed on the profile pages of other members of this Group. Welcome and good luck!

Scott Marlowe (scottmarlowe) Hey all,

I'm Scott Marlowe and I write fantasy. I've got 2 eBooks out currently and I'm busily working away on a 3rd.

My web site/blog is scottmarlowe.com. I'm also on Twitter at @scottmarlowe. I always follow back writers!

One of my novels, The Hall of the Wood, has gone free on Amazon and--wow--what a wonder that is for "sales". ;-) It's getting about 100 downloads/day right now and just hit the Top 20 in Mythology. It's not making me any money on it, but maybe I'll get some reviews.

Anyway, that's it for me.

Arlene Webb (arlenewebb) | 3 comments Hi. My name is Arlene Webb. I'd love to ask anyone interested in a story that's rather different to check out Rebel. It'll be free through Amazon, Dec 22-23rd.
Blurb:
Can an untamed lover distract from the desire to bring down the human race?

The unforgivable happens, and a mother’s determination that her little ones blossom becomes an obsession. With a plan and the will, all Settia needs is the means. A lowly hero agrees to help. His price? A moment of fun in the dark. When tendrils tighten and he’s smitten, he’s ready to sacrifice his all to prolong their pleasure. Many sentient creatures lose their heads upon falling in love, yet Settia never expects the glorious aftermath to be quite so painful.

Rebel is a 10,500 word paranormal that’s been labeled undefinable. Sweet romance, yet with adult inneudo.

http://www.amazon.com/Rebel-ebook/dp/...

Thank you, and I look forward to getting to know more authors, inde and otherwise.
Merry Christmas,
Arlene

Richard Simms (tralfie) | 2 comments Helllllooooo, out there! My name is Richard Simms, and I'm the author of a book called Crimes Against Civility. It's sort of a pop culture-laden rant against the tides of rudeness which are washing over this country. Way more fun than it sounds... I hope. I'm also the executive editor of Soaps In Depth magazine (for as long as soaps and/or magazines last). Having given birth to my first book, I'm already pregnant with my second, which will be a horror novel (because really, how better to follow up a book about rudeness than by writing one in which terrible, awful, very-bad things happen to characters), and the third (a book about Walt Disney World) is in the brainwomb. I live in New Jersey (just outside of Manhattan), and am always, always (did I say always) up for meeting people for drinks. (If you follow my twitter account, @howrudeareyou, you'll be able to read my drinking exploits, which I hashtag as #9thavenuesaloontweets). Thanks for having me, look forward to interacting with y'all.

Jayleigh Cape (jayleigh_cape) | 7 comments Hi all! My name is Jayleigh Cape. I've been writing most of my life and I'm in love with the written word. There is nothing more satisfying to me than crafting thoughts into sentences and manipulating those sentences into a perfect cadence.

I published my first book through Amazon in August 2011. It's a modern thriller novel called "A Shot in the Dark". Though I didn't intend for the book to be a series, by the time I was somewhere near the middle of writing it, I realized that I had more stories in mind for these characters. In fact, I've just started work on the sequel.

I will read just about any genre as long as I find the plot or subject matter interesting. I have many influences in authors, but most of my influences are the are the people around me.

My website is jayleighcape.com.

Sky Corbelli | 8 comments Greetings and felicitations, all and one, one and all. My name is Sky Luke Corbelli, and no, I'm not a jedi.

I've wrestled alligators, climbed mountains, and swum distances that boggle the mind. Before crowds of hundreds I have engaged in epic sword fights while educating my opponents and the audience alike about the wonders of cold-blooded creatures. I spend my days scowling at the thrice-cursed sun that hangs over California and wishing for a nice, comfortable fog. Or rain! Yeah... that'd be cool... And, apparently, I've written a book about none of those things. Except maybe the rain.

So if you like some humor, fantasy, and Heisenberg uncertainty principles in your sci-fi, check out my first book, Wind-Scarred. I've been told on several occasions that it isn't horrible!

message 543: by Kallypso (new)

Kallypso Masters (goodreadscomkallypsomasters) | 2 comments Hi! I debuted my first novel in August 2011 and published three books in 2011 in my RESCUE ME series. I write erotic romances with BDSM elements. (I'm a "gateway to BDSM" author, with lots of readers who've never read a BDSM novel reading and enjoying this kinky world. I ease readers into the lifestyle gently. ) I tend to write realistic BDSM, so I may be a frustrating read for someone wanting perfect Doms who don't screw up. My Marines are NOT in that category and I often see the frustration in reviews because of that fact. But I love 'em anyway, as do many of my thousands of readers. The books are all rated 4.30 or higher on Goodreads among hundreds of rankings, so they've been received quite well by readers.

I wrote for decades before deciding to self-publish something last year. I've made steady increases in sales since August and January sales have already more than doubled December's, so it looks like this will be my new career. Thank goodness. I love being a full-time writer.

I do most of my interacting with readers via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/kallypsomasters. (I just haven't had much luck figuring out how to use Goodreads as a means of communicating with readers. Usually I get my hand slapped for promoting--so I just don't join discussions much.) I also blog at kallypsomasters.blogspot.com.

Now I want to discuss this new deal with Goodreads making us "rescue" our books if they came from Amazon. I'll try and find the appropriate forum here to do that!

Kally

I have several books available at Lulu, and a collection of short stories at Kindle, Lulu and Smashwords.
