Does anyone else hate 'video game novels'?

Personally, the only ones I ever got into was a novel based on the Baldur's Gate computer game, but the only reason I tried reading that one was that the game crashed my computer and I never got to finish playing it.

As movies, I think the trapped in a video game concept can be interesting. I've never read a novel about it though, or one that was based off a video game like Halo, so I can't really say if I'd like it or not.

I agree that most video game stories aren't substantial enough to make good books, however, for those that never played Metal Gear, nor ever intend to, should look into the the books. They may not be as good as the video games, but the story is undoubtedly intriguing.

I suppose it's because I'm some sort of an elitist snob, but I just feel like those books should be kept in their own section- not put out with 'real' books.
Am I alone in this?
