Does anyone else hate 'video game novels'?

I don't think any videogame is rich enough in content to really support a novel. And yes, I'm including Syphon Filter and the games based on Tom Clancy stuff in that. I can't imagine anything less interesting that reading through a game. Worse than a walkthrough, IMHO. I had a brief flirtation with role playing game novels, but luckily I got over that.
Because of my son, I'm sort of interested in Halo. Anyone read any of that? Is it actually a novel yet?
My brother was interested in Halo as well. He read several novels that were released around 2004, I think. They do exist, and you can find them in the series portion of the sci fi/fantasy section of bookstores.Personally, the only ones I ever got into was a novel based on the Baldur's Gate computer game, but the only reason I tried reading that one was that the game crashed my computer and I never got to finish playing it.
MYST is a book based on the game. Very good book, fantasy. The characters are fully developed, not robotic or flat. *Clancy
The only video game-ish thing I really like was Scott Pilgrim VS. The World, which worked well as it was a graphic novel and the vdei gameing is justified and used to be awsome and not annoying :)
As far as movies go, I liked Tron: Legacy, which is somewhat like a videogame, being that it's this cyber-created world (I'm talking about the newer one, I've never seen the original). I also liked that Spy Kids movie when I was younger where the brother has to go into this virtual reality video game to save his sister. As movies, I think the trapped in a video game concept can be interesting. I've never read a novel about it though, or one that was based off a video game like Halo, so I can't really say if I'd like it or not.
Metal Gear Solid. I'm grateful that Richard Benson took the beautiful, epic story of the Metal Gear series and made them into two books (so far, I sure hope there is more)I agree that most video game stories aren't substantial enough to make good books, however, for those that never played Metal Gear, nor ever intend to, should look into the the books. They may not be as good as the video games, but the story is undoubtedly intriguing.
Some of them yes... But not nearly as much as I loath movies based off video games. If anyone hasn't done so already, please sign the petition to stop Uwe Boll from inflicting any more movies on the public...http://www.petitiononline.com/RRH53888/ (Currently 365548 signatures...)
You know what I loathe? People who say "based off." You can't base things off things. You have to base things ON things.

I suppose it's because I'm some sort of an elitist snob, but I just feel like those books should be kept in their own section- not put out with 'real' books.
Am I alone in this?
