Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Would like some feedback here.

Until GR tweaks the feature where group comments are able to be rated up/down, so the mods can edit whether or not (or where) to include them in groups, I'd like to ask how people would feel about not using this feature for the time being? It makes for a very disjointed read, and you have to mouse over the topic to get the options.

I'm also not liking the idea of being able to downrate someone's post. It could discourage someone from posting.

Is anyone liking this feature at all and wanting to use it?

Many groups are making it against the rules to use the feature because it's become a bit of a pain. What are your thoughts on this?

If you haven't seen it and have no idea what I'm talking about, you can refer to this topic.

I can't see it on my BB screen- what's this all about?

message 3: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I don't see it either.

message 4: by willaful (new)

willaful I'm familiar with the new feature and totally loathe it.

message 5: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments I have absoutly no idea what you are talking about

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Someone explained it in another group and it's easier to just copy this explanation :

There is a new feature on Goodreads, which will hopefully die a fast death.

When you start a new thread, you can mark a checkbox that says "this is a discussion question" and then it looks like this:

When checked, each member can post only one post per thread, which isn't conducive at all to discussion or back & forth communication. And you can then vote on people's comments, saying you dislike them or like them, and the thread is also no longer in chronological order.

message 7: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh I get it... LOL!!! Why are the always changing sh*t!!! Ugh!! I wish we could 'Like' a comment but that's all I would change.

Also, you ladies crack me up :)

message 8: by Jasja (new)

Jasja | 42 comments I didn't know about that feature, but I think it is completely ridiculous. I cannot see how such a feature could be seen as added value, on the contrary.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I agree. I would love a little button for being able to "like" what someone says, but that's it. Don't change the format for discussions.

message 10: by Leea (new)

Leea Wait did they change it already or are going to change it? I have yet to notice a difference :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) They already changed it. When you make a new topic, there's an option to check a box that says 'this is a discussion question' and it changes the topic format.

message 12: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh, I have not posted a new topic in awhile. Stop changing stuff GR people...

message 13: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I didn't even know this existed.

I can see some use for this but in rare situations. Definitely not in day to day discussions.

message 14: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments um wow that really is a not helpful change, yeah make it like facebook where you can just like a person's comment but it doesn't change the flow or don't change it at all.

message 15: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) And kinda like amazon too right? I hate those forums!!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I used to frequent Amazon a lot, but GR made me lose the will to post over there.

message 17: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Me too!

message 18: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh I hate posting there... I joined the BDB group and could not figure out what those ladies were doing. I like this group and GR in general :)

message 19: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) People are super mean spirited there, maybe it is the vast number of people that post there? The Kindle boards there are very informative but just mean.

message 20: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments I am still trying to figure out how to use kindleboards, yeah some of the people on there can be a little snippy.

message 21: by Leea (new)

Leea That's to bad Regina! At least we are nice here :)

message 22: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Very nice. :)

Ottilie have you tried www.kindleboards.com? I guess they can be snippy there too. Ask your questions here! Several of us have kindles.

message 23: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Yeah I use kindleboards.com most are nice just on occation it's not the same atmosphere as GR haha I do ask my questions here and socialize more on here then kindleboards, I mostly use that tryint to read more readers though.

message 24: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I agree, they are snippy. I asked a question and was shocked at a response, it kept me away for a few months.

message 25: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments one of the threads I get is about who uses GR's and someone today was like people stop spamming the thread blah blah blah and it was like all they did was post the link to their GR profile for people to befriend. i felt like an idiot though in one of them or I have been reading too many romance threads on here, it was good guys or bad guys and I took it as which guys are more fun to read and apparently it was the deeper thought into it oops

message 26: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments HAHA!That's funny Ottilie! GR just has a friendlier vibe to it, guess 'cause the members are friendlier!

message 27: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Interesting. I've only seen this in one thread and I hate it. It has prevented me from posting in the thread because the whole thing is just too confusing. I like the idea of not using this type of thread at all.

I do wish we could 'like' a comment, FB style.

message 28: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments hahaha it was a fine moment of mine and yeah I really like the people here.

Heather (Let's-Go-Pens-We're-Gonna-Take-This-One) I'm down with ditching the crazy new antics and sticking with making as many dang comments as we'd like to make.

Mishelle LaBrash (mishalabrash) | 1520 comments Mod
Ditto~

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) It appears that GR has disabled this feature for groups, thank goodness.

message 32: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Because it as Aweful! LOL. Just give us a like button.

message 33: by Leea (new)

Leea Yes - we want a LIKE button

message 34: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments haha I almost feel like the like button would be so used and abused on here it would hilarious

message 35: by Leea (new)

Leea no kidding :)
