Hey FYI I'm reading Under the Boardwalk by Carly Phillips. First of all, it is a cute read so far, plus it has a lot of names! So far I have found the usable names: Ariana, Samantha, Maria and Connor. It also has the names Zoe and Aaron, but I'm not sure if they will be usable yet.

in No Mercy - Jake, Levi, Sophie, Mason and in the second one - Mercy Kill - the same, plus also Jason and Ana (but the audiobook says it Anna)
MistressMoon wrote: "Also,Nathalie= Natalie? Not sure about this one. Would it count?"Yup - pronouncenames.com has the option of pronouncing Nathalie as Natalie :)
I don't hae a bunch of those names...thanks Lacy!I've also been meaning to try one of Lori Armstrong's mysteries so I may check that one out Dee.
no prob - DG - I have one of her julie collins mysteries to try, so i'll let you know how they are - i read no Mercy and listened to Mercy Kill...wasn't really a fan of a the narrator, and there were a few spots in the book, where it was like - ok, I get it you did your research, but just one chapter specifically
I thought I'd have a Jeremiah in
from looking on the name spreadsheet. But I'm almost done with it and so far and he's only been mentioned twice and in only one conversation. So I did a search for it on google-books and that's the only time the name is in the book. So I need another Jeremiah now.
There's a Jeremiah (Stubss) in The Talisman Ring by Georgette Heyer (Historical romp) - along with Sarah, Joseph (Nye) and William (Peabody). (I added their last name as they are often referred to as that...)Just finished Yule Be Mine by Lori Foster and picked up Parker, Brooke and Grace. It also has Levi...
There is also a Jeremiah in
, which is totally not a romance story!!! It is a good read though. There is also one in the Mortal Instruments series, which starts with the book:
.
The only Hudson that I know of is the butler in Guardian Angel by Julie Garwood. But I don't know if it's his lasst name or first. If he's only ever called Hudson throughout the book and it's never clarified is it still useable?
Ooh. Good info. I've had Agnes on my reminder list for awhile now. Maybe I'll see if the library had it on audio. I have an Xavier. The problem is that it's book 3 or 4 of a series for which I've only read book 1. I don't know if I'll have time to read them all.
Jane (PS) wrote: "And I just wanted to add that there is a Xavier in Agnes and the Hitman, as well as a Maria :)"I knew I had read that name relatively recent (late last year)! Good book, IMHO. I've already read it twice already.
Mary wrote: "I thought I'd have a Jeremiah in

Jane (PS) wrote: "And I just wanted to add that there is a Xavier in Agnes and the Hitman, as well as a Maria :)"It might pay to double-check the paperback. I'm listening to the audio and now I'm wondering if Xavier is his last name! But I can't go back to check... :(
I just did an Amazon search. It's the last name. It's Detective Simon Xavier. I've saved myself some mis-reads for this by using the Amazon Search function and the Google Books search function. Not all books allow this but it's been handy a few times.
Hudson is in Frey, Stephen Hell's Gate a new book that also has Hunter, I really enjoyed it.I am down to Cooper and Mckenna, does anyone have them, hopefully

Sorry - hope your hopes are not completely dashed! ;)
No. I'll just have to read the next 2 or 3 Psy-Changling books if I don't come across Xavier in another book. I think there's an Xavier in a book that's pending on my paperbackswap WL. I'll have to check when it gets here. If it gets mailed.

There is a Cooper in the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. The first book that he is in is One Foot in the Grave and he is all of the ones after this one.

Hey Lindy, Who is the author for Frey? I have been looking for a Hudson.
Hell's Gate: A Novel - Stephen Frey - ironically enough I have this one sitting on the shelf...i might have to pull it out
Hina wrote: "Can someone tell me? Kaitlin = Kaitlyn or not?"
Basically yes!
I found this in a web page when I was looking for that name.
The baby name Kaitlyn has a very sweet appeal that has attracted many a name-searching parent. Its clean sound, Irish connection, and nicknames Kate and Katie may appeal to many. Though Kaitlyn is a name relatively recent in popularity, it is based on a name with very rich roots throughout history.
Derivation and Meaning
Paging through the baby name history books reveals that today's name Kaitlyn stems from a much older Irish name, Caitlín (KAHT-leen). Caitlín, also seen spelled as Cateline, is a variant on an Old French version of Katherine.
Though the etymology of the name Katherine is itself up for debate, the commonly accepted meaning of Caitlín is "pure."
Alternative Spellings
In 2007 the United States Social Security Administration (SSA) Top 1000 Baby Names Index recorded 8 different alternative spellings of Kaitlyn. In order of popularity, the variants included Kaitlyn (35.1%), Katelyn (26.8%), Caitlyn (10.2%), Caitlin (9.6%), Katelynn (7.6%), Kaitlin (4.9%), Kaitlynn (4.1%), and Katlyn (1.7%).

There's a Hudson in Witches of East End-I used the Amazon search and it's a 1st name and a big enough character. I got it from the library because it looks like a book I'd really like.
Hunter is in Stephen Frey's Hells Gate as well as Zoe, Grayson, Paige, Don't need Robert, Sam. William, Charlie, No one has Cooper or McKenna?
Lindy,I read Fortune's Secret Baby by Christyne Butler, depending on if you like reading Harlequin. The hero's name is Cooper.
Sorry no luck with McKenna yet.
I was goign to use: The Ghost of Carnal Cove for Makenna and Get A Clue or Wayward Wind for Cooper. I wrote those down when teh challenge first started and I don't remember now if they were main characters or not. Or if I verfied the names or not.
We are more than halfway to the end. I'm struggling with this challenge. I was wondering how everyone is doing. And I have a question...How many books have you read for the challenge and how many names have you crossed off? This is where I'm at: 21 books read & 68 names done. I guess my goal should just be 100 names total. I haven't counted any names from my audiobooks b/c I can't remember them. I've also read many more books than this that didn't have any names.
It said the challenge doens't end until Oct 31, so does that mean all those people who read all 20o names are all winners? Or the first one who reads 200 names no matter how soon? Just curious got a big pile from the library yesterday to read...lol
I have 152 names out of 62 books. I've had a lot of duplicates and a lot of books that had no names. I actually got really lucky at first and without even trying had quite a few books with 3 or 4 names each. Then I hid a long snag of no names. There's only been a few books where I picked it up specifically for one of the harder to find names. I have a list of possibles for each name that I made in the beginning. But I actually haven't gone to it that much. I'll have to start referrign it to it now if I want to finish it in time.
If someone hits 200 before me, I will still try to get them all in by the deadline. Just to see if I can.
You are all right :)The winner will be either the first person to mark off all the names before the end date (31 October) OR the person with the most names marked off at the end of the challenge.

But a lot of ppl aren't updating their lists very often, so it isn't overly accurate :)
i have a printed list...I was soo excited, listening to seduction in death and charles has a significant role and I was like, he's got to be on the list...nope :(
You could look up the audios you listened to on shelfari. There might be a character list to remind you. I listen to a lot of audiobooks. When a name pops up, I'll write it down as soon as I can (stop light, parking lot, driveway ....,). If a name pops up and I'm not sure it it'll be in enough (2ndary character), I'll look the book up on Amazon or Googlebooks and search the name.
I'm lucky in that I can surf and read at work as long as my work is done. While you'd think summer would be a fence part manufacturers busiest time of year-July/August are actually slow for us. So lots of time to read and search for possible books with names.
