RRRC's 2nd Reading Tournament: Introduction and Guidelines
I checked out shelfari and they listed some characters being in the dark books that I can't remember (Gabriel being in Dark Challenge for instance - he doesn't rise until his book)These are the names I'd plan on using - if the others come up before then well - bonus!!!
Dark Prince - Jacob
Dark Desire -
Dark Gold - Alex (girl - shortened form of Alexandria) Aidan, Joshua, Thomas
Dark Magic - Savannah
Dark Challenge - Julian
Dark Fire -
Dark Dream - (you'll need to read anthology Dark Dreamers to get page count) Sara
Dark Legend - Gabriel, Brice (Bryce)
Dark Guardian - Tyler, Samuel,
Dark Symphony - Josef (Joseph),
Dark Descent -
Dark Melody -
Dark Destiny (Hot Blooded Anthology) - Jasmine
Dark Secret -
Dark Demon -
Dark Celebration - most characters make an appearance
Dark Possession -
Dark Curse - Nicolas, Xavier (from memory Dominic makes and appearance but I don't remember if it was enough of one to get a feel for his character)
Dark Slayer -
Dark Peril - Dominic
I've heard a lot of good things about the Harry Potter books in audio. Too bad they're not available in downloadable form!I'll check out the first book in the Carpathian series and switch to print if I don't like the narration. I usually know within 5 minutes if I like the narration so the only wasted time would be what it took me to download the book. :)
The narrator that I didn't like was Jaunita Parker. And as far as I know she's American. In fact, I think she was one of hte Seattle area newscasters when I lived there. But I could be wrong. She kept would sometimes call Gabriel-"Gabrielle" and other times Gabriel. Stuff like that. Not so annoying that I didn't finish listening to the ones I had bought.
Thank you guys!!! I will be sure to get something on audio now. Oh, I never had to before, but does anyone know how to contact a goodreads librarian? I just found a mistake on the description for a book. Jane, are you one?

I think Dominic does make enough of an appearance with characterisation to mark his name off - he has the stand-off with Gregori during a warrior meeting and makes various other decisions *spoiler, spoiler, spoiler*... I listened to it again the other day :)
Hahaha - I hadn't marked off Dominic though - just added it now :)

Sorry Hina, no. I rely on Sandra, *grins evilly* and now Dee ;)
I'm one too, but I don't know
Lisa Kay wrote: "I'm one too, but I don't know shit much. Well, I can add a cover and edit some text, but that is about it."Hahaha - good to be upfront with a lack of skills LK!!
But you can do
Baby, You're Mine by Peggy Moreland. The summary of the book is for a different book, I just finished reading the book and I put the right description in my review from amazon.
Thanks,
I am sure, LK or DG will figure out!
Thanks! I was about to let you know, I got my GR librarian status and if you hadn't fixed it, so if I can do it. LOL!
Mary wrote: "It's on pg 9 of this thread. I tried to copy/paste but it didn't show up as a link."Thank you!! This is just what I needed! Of course, one of the reasons I'm doing this challenge is to read through books to downsize my TBR. Now I have a list to buy more! Grrr.... lol
Jane (PS) wrote: "Hahaha - good to be upfront with a lack of skills LK!! But you can do Yeah, I joined the GR Librarians Group b/c there were little things that were bugging me, I'm okay with computers, and I like to help people; plus, I type 90 WPM. But then I saw tons of people on there with their Masters in Library Science talking about things WAY WAY over my head. I wish they had a mentor program. **sigh** (view spoiler)["br"]>["br"]>
LOL! I prefer to carry on in blithe and gay (I was born on a Sunday as I discovered in this month's PIFM) ignorance of GR idiosyncrasies!
I joined to downsize my TBR but have still been getting a lot of library books. Mostly audiobooks though which I get anyway. But I have used over 20 of my own TBR books so I'm feeling good. Especially since I've had some of them for years.
The Husband Trap-Tracy Ann WarrenI just recommended this on another board to someone looking for shy heroines. Then I noticed it has Violet and Adrien. I've already used those names. But thought I'd mentioned it here.
OK I've decided to give Mary Janice Davidson another chance. Maybe I'll like her better on audio. My library has Me, Myself and Why on CD. So I just requested that.
Hi everyone, I couldn't find this in the pronunciation website, but can Thomas be substituted for Thomaz?
Also, The Body Finder has violet and I think claire.
who was looking for a nicholas? the deanna rayborne series has a nicholas and a julia (at least in the later books) - bot sure about the earlier ones
That's true! Brisbane's first name is Nicholas! Thanks, Dee.Lady Julia Grey and Nicholas Brisbane are the two main characters so they are in all the books. :) I listened to the first two books in that series years ago and have been meaning to get back to it - I even took it out of the library and brought it back. I'll request it when I'm done with the million books I have from the library this month.
In Too Deep-has an Isabella, if anyone is looking for that name.ETA: I was just checking the wish list books that I have coming from PBS. Of course one has 3 names just from the description, but they're all ones I've used already.
Linger-Logan, Emily and Catherine.
But yeah! Talk Me Down has a Molly. Possibly a Benjamin too although I used that name so I don't really care.
I need a ruling again on Maya Banks:Understood, Overheard, Undenied series. Can they be used as combined if I read all three books in the series?
Hina wrote: "I need a ruling again on Maya Banks:Understood, Overheard, Undenied series. Can they be used as combined if I read all three books in the series?"
Yup - no problem. Read all 3 novellas and use four names for the series.

I don't think you can substitute Thomaz for Thomas - I have to say, I wouldn't pronounce them the same - the 'z' at the end really changes the ending sound. Sorry :(
yay! they didn't say her name until the very last sentence in the book - she was just called arrow through-out
well it was a good book - so i'm not gonig to complain...lol! and I wasn't expecting to get any names out of it, so 1 is a bonus
I've only gotten one name in each of the last two books I've read but I just started one book and I already found 3 names: Colin, Sophia, and the promise of a Harper.
You post it in the Game Participants List Thread. We are updating our original posts on that thread-to keep it from getting too long and confusing. You can still join if you didn't before use any books you've read since 5/1 which is when we started.
Thanks Mary :)Lindy - your post in that thread is #25 - I have you shown as Lindy Smith (in case another 'Lindy' registered). So just scroll midway down the first page and update/post your books at that message (using 'edit'). Thanks.
Is it me, or the names already used keeps coming up over and over again? This challenge is becoming so addicting!!

I was wondering what about female charecters with male names and vic versa? Can we still check of the names? Also what about Paden for Peyton? I know it is a bit of a stretch but I thought I would ask :)
I think the character has to be the same gender that it is on the list. That's how I've been doing it.Paden and Payton don't sound anything alike to me. But then I've never heard of the name Paden before.
yeah - I think Jane answered that with the Aubrey/Aubrey question...Paden/Peyton don't sound the same to me - in either the first or second post there are two links to name pronunciators - try running them both through and see if they sound the same
I have had had a lot of repeat names. I've lost count of the Carolines, Elizabeths, Ellies, Jacks, Sams and Matthews that I've had. I've even had multiple Aidens.

If you are looking for Peyton, there is a Payton in the third book, Undenied by Maya Banks. But you have to read all three in the series for it to count.

Audio book recs:
All Nora Roberts including her JD Robb books.
There's just something about her writing style that suits audio books.
Christine Feehan's Dark Prince Author's Cut Special Edition.
I didn't have misprounciation problems with the old narrator (may be an english vs american prounciation thing) but the narrator is far far better on the special edition. I haven't listened to the others so I can't really comment.
Harry Potter - Stephen Fry need I say more.
Currently listening to Lara Adrian's Kiss of Midnight which has been really well done so far.
Molly Harper's Jane Jameson books are excellent on audio
Patricia Briggs Mercedes Thompson books - brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.
