I've just hit the quarter way mark, having marked 50 names off of the list which considering I'm not deliberately reading books for the names isn't doing too badly at all. Of course, 70% of those are boys names.

I just added the Xavier I found in Caressed in Ice to the spreadsheet and the only names that don't have at least one book suggestion are:BOYS
Carson
GIRLS
Brooke
Cadence
Kennedy
Makenna

Yes - I like that reasoning as well. Perhaps it is a combination (probably with a lot more weighting toward DGs theory)!! :)

Hey, if anyone starts really obsessing and needs a Carson to complete their list, pick up one of the old original Nancy Drew mysteries - Nancy's father's name is Carson. Don't ask me how I remember that, since it's been at least 35 years since I've read a Nancy Drew book!
There's a recurring Kennedy in the later Sookie Stackhouse books. I don't remember in which one she first appears. The heroine of The Ghost of Carnal Cove is a Makenna.
There's a Brooke in the Lacey Smithsonian books by Ellen Byerum.
There's apperently a Kadence in the Lords of the Underworld books by Gena Showalter. Shelfari says she's a Goddess.
I have a possible book for every name on the list. But I'm not going to go out of my way to acquire the ones I don't actually own. Only if I can get them from the library or booksfree and only if I fill in most of the list with my own books.
I wouldn't think so, Christine. But English is not my first language so who knows. :)The two books I'm reading now don't have ONE name between them. And I'm about to start a book set in Iran so of course, no names there either.
i'm reading a book set in Albania and its teh same...lol! what iranian book are you reading?D.G. ~Vile Temptress~ wrote: "I wouldn't think so, Christine. But English is not my first language so who knows. :)

I just read a book and the only name it had was one that I had already gotten from another book. Evelyn and Evelinde don't sound the same to me. Unless the "d" is silent. But I've always pronounced it like "Ev-i-lind-e". But I've been know to pronounce names wrong before.
For years I didn't know how Siobhan was pronounced until I met someone with that name. She pronounced if "sha-vanne". Which sounds nothing like it's spelled.
D.G. ~Vile Temptress~ wrote: "The two books I'm reading now don't have ONE name between them..."Ditto! One of the books I reading now is
and I haven't come across ONE name I can use. Still, loving the book!
I think I have another no-namer too. At least one with a name that I don't already have. But I'm only 100 pages in so maybe I'll get lucky and a new (for me) name will pop up.
Hi Christine - if you are unsure about pronounciation I have included a couple of weblinks in the FAQs (message 3) that will give you direction on how a name is enunciated... I haven't checked on the links, but I would have thought the 'd' was pronounced and would therefore disqualify the name :(
I just read: Wild Ride and there's a Levi, Sydney, Chase, Hayden, Jason and Justin. There's also a Tyler but he wasn't really in it much in my opinion. He might qualify for the "evil character" rule.

"I think that name is Gaelic and that's the reason why it sounds so different than it's spelled. I couldn't believe when my husband told me that Pádraig is pronounced Patrick.
I've gotten no names from the last 4 books I started: the last two books of the Hunger Games trilogy, The Ditchdigger's Daughters: A Black Family's Astonishing Success Story (there are 5 daughters here but none of the names are in the list) and The Blood of Flowers (set in Iran.)I'm supposed to be reading Dead Reckoning next so I hope to get at least one in there.
The names are dibbling in for me - ones and twos... But I don't know if I'll get any from my current book: The Iron Duke...
Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but here's a Cadence book:
I added it to the spreadsheet as well!
Also, there is a Carson in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. He is in several books, especially those dealing with the Were-hunters, as he is the shapeshifting veterinarian at Sanctuary. I've noticed him most especially in Night Play (Dark-Hunter, #5), Unleash the Night (Dark-Hunter, #8), and the newest couple of books Bad Moon Rising (Dark-Hunter, #18) and No Mercy (Dark-Hunter Series #19).
Thanks Megan - I have a couple of those! ...Now I just have to jump-start my DarkHunter reading - I'm back on book 3 :)
Yes - I really struggled with Night Embrace for some reason. I didn't really like Summer or whatever her name was... That's right, Sunshine... But I believe the next one is meant to be pretty good... We should try to buddy-read it sometime Lisa :)
Sounds good! Man-oh-man! GR's needs a "tickle" file (one that comes back to "tickle" your memory on a certain date), LOL!
Well - here we have mind exercise 101! Designed specifically for those of us over 40... ;) ...better than sudoku!
Oh, I wasn't a fan of Talon and Sunshine's book either, but good news....the next few are fantastic!! :)
i liked Talon for the celtic aspect, could take or leave sunshine...but I did like seeing her in Acheron's book
Oh my goodness, I am such a MaryJanice Davidson fan. She makes me laugh. And I really enjoy the Cadence series. As far as the Dark Hunter series, some of them I loved and some I could've done without. Unfortunately, I am OCD and insist on reading a series in it's entirety.
Dee wrote: "I highly recommend My One and Only if you still need a harper"I just read that :). I enjoyed it!
Does anyone know if Bill Compton in the "Sookie Stackhouse" series has been mentioned as "William" before in any of the books? I'm on the 6th one, Definitely Dead and was wondering if in prior books if he was mentioned by William..... I can't remember...
Hmm... Well I don't want to use it unless it's true because I need a William :). And in these books there's not TOO many names I can use I don't think. I certainly can't use "Sookie" lol.
I believe it's mentioned in the first book that his name is William. Let me see if I can find out in Google Books.
Doesn't she see his tombstone in one of the first books? I didn't need a William when I read Dead Reckoning. ( I have lots of confirmed William books). So I didn't look it up then.

Me too!
Me too!
Has anyone found a Neveah? I thought I had one but when I put it into the name thing it's different. I have a Nevaeh. The first link doesn't recognize either of those names. The 2nd one has them pronounced different.
LOL! I thought Neveah was meant to be heaven spelt backwards (I didn't bother to check closely) but clearly this name received its own special spin or someone was dyslexic...
