message 114: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Shimotakahara (lshimo) A friend just asked me if I have read Kierkegaard's Either/Or: A Fragment of Life and I responded that I have come to realize that I am too much of a novel lover to be able to take my philosophy staight up. But I love reading "novels of ideas," where philosophical ideas are woven into the narrative thrust... My friend recommended that I read Kierkegaard's novel, The Seducer's Diary, which was a delightful suggestion because I hadn't even been aware that he wrote a novel. It will be a welcome break from the more contemporary novels I've been reading for inspiration and blogging about lately.

Razmatus | 241 comments Sonya wrote: "How is atonement?"

I saw the movie and it was awesome, but judging by the lecture I was at about McEwan's writing (the lecture itself being really good and interesting insight by an obvious fan of his), I dont really feel encouraged to try his works... might check it at some point though...

when I finish House of Chains, I'm moving then right to the next one... will take some time though since I am not even halfway through HoC :P

message 129: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin (ben21) Do it, also read malazan books of the fallen series. Two best fantasy series Ive ever read. Full of grit, no fairy tail ending nonsense. But fair warning, with the malazan series, just about everyone you end up liking, dies.

oh really :D? first off, I finished ASOIAF books, so I am not new to characters dying, and I actually dont mind, at least they dont feel like they cant fall or what... and second off, I have already finished first three malazan books, and am like a third over in the fourth, House of Chains... and in case that wasnt too obvious:
http://s1165.photobucket.com/albums/q...

no offense intended, I am just in goofy mood today :P

so yea I am making my way through, and thanks to my approach to reading a series, so far I havent been very confused, it is getting better with every page and book :)

message 131: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments Oh, my.

I was innocently making my way through a Doctor Who novel (Monster of Peladon, next to last Third Doctor adventure), and the fourth Quiller (Tango Briefing), and amazon goes an announces 20 different books made into movies for $0.99. Now, I didn't rush off and order all 20 ... I have quite a few of them, and am completely uninterested in many of the others. But you know how once you click a few things, amazon suggests that there may be books of interest to you? Well, I got a copy of The Forever War for $4.99, so that's likely to be the next book up on my TBR.

The books are The 11th Hour by James Patterson and The Family Corleone by Ed Falco.
