yes i agree with you ,,it's like a must to break your heart at the end of each book :((about this book i liked the movie more ,, the book was a little bit boring at parts but definitively it was more heart breaking

Yes, I also noticed that Nicholas Sparks writes books that are melodramatic and heavy on the heart. I don't remember anyone dying in Dear John, but maybe I am wrong - its been a while since I read it. Above all, A Walk to Remember, and The Notebook are the biggest death-infused books that leave you in tears by the end. The Last Song is a good contender for a tear-jerker too!
nice book.though i hate tragedies.and yeah his books are tragedies..but when in the mood i read it(rarely, very rarely though)..theres something about his books ..you know...

All his books are very good. One must cry when reading one of Nicholas' books.(make sure you have a box of tissue). The main characters must die or taste death bt some point .I like the Notebook the most. Nicholas is an amaizing author.
Someone always dies in one of his books.I have read ALOT of his books.
And I haven't ever read one that someone doesn't die.
Read 3 weeks with my Brother, and you'll see his real life is just as dramatic! That's where he get's the catalyst to write these novels!
I totally agree. Although I find a lot of authors have something that follows through all of his/her books.
Shannon wrote: "Is it just me or does someone always die in Nicholas' books? "Well, the author himself is brain-dead to begin with.
Yes. And after like the half of the book you know who it's going to be, because someone dies in every book of his, but that's just a reason I love his books. And I agree that the film was better too, but the book is great too.
There's always someone dying, (mostly because of cancer), there's always a divorced character, there's always a character related to the army, and in the movies there's always an ending with someone looking at a lake or at the sea. Oh, and there's always letters (someone writing to someone...). The saddest thing here is that mr. Sparks claims to be "a surprising author, because all my books are very different between each other" (he really said that on a tv interview). It's very sad to live on ignorance.
I've liked all his books I've read! Message in a Bottle is a favorite & I think Safe Heaven is his best! Any Book that makes me laugh or cry is a good one in my book! The Longest Ride is a little different though.
Take care when reading Sparks. You never know what may happen; it's not always a happen ending. I have read all of his books from The Notebook through The Guardian, and several of those have sad endings. Also, if you haven't read it yet, he and his brother, Micah, wrote a great non-fiction book about their trip around the world, interspersed with vignettes about their eccentric upbringing. I really loved it. A Walk to Remember and The Rescue are my favorite Sparks novels. The Notebook is based on his grandparents' romance.
Yeah, and it gets a little bit depressing because a story either begins or end with someone who died.
YES someone always dies or comes close to
I couldn't agree more. When I first read Nicholas Sparks and slowly progressed in reading his books, I had this gradual realization after finishing every book, "Why does someone die every time?" But I'll have to confess and accept that even though his novels have a vivid portrayal of death, I read his books every time.I can't come in terms with the idea of denying myself with the pleasure of reading a beautiful description of love in it's myriad forms, describing it in the incredulous and impeccable way only a Nicholas Sparks novel can.
I must have read almost every book of Nicholas sparks but I don't remember happy ending in any of them :D
I have read a few of his books, and I think The Choice got one of the happy endings. As I was reading it, I was expecting it to end badly.
lol yep someone always die.
His books are very sad, but good.

Lol I think Nicholas Sparks needs a hug. And if he ever wants to make himself fee; better about killing off all his characters, he just needs to meet George R R Martin and he'll instantly feel better in comparison.
I don't like all his books, but I like Dear John and Walk to remember a lot. Its sad when characters die but it is more true to life....
Soad wrote: "his books are really great more realistic then others"I agree. I think that his novels aren't Happy Ever after, because that rarely happens In life. And he accepts that love has to make sacrifices... I enjoy writing a happy ending, myself but also I like to write something where things don't work out exactly as you hope they will
Nicholas Sparks makes it a point to kill someone or the other in his books. I guess he tries to appeal to human sentiments or something. Its so depressing and kind of makes his books very predictable.
okay yes, but that happens man, LIFE happens and it can end in a second. although someone always dies, it's not always someone from the main couple. I've read most of his books (13 out of 18 but I'm still working on it) and if I remember correctly, no one dies in The Choice COMING TO THEATERS IN THE SUMMER AND I'M SO PUMPED OHMYGOD.
I agree, I think that while I love romances with a happy ending, its nice to have love stories that don't end in perfect love. It makes people who don't have a perfect life or marriage, feel a bit better
It not just you, in all the books I have read of his at least one person dies. Excpet 'the choice' I don't think anyone dies in that book. (Reply to shannon's comment: "That is very true, every day that goes by in our lives someone out their is suffering and just thinking about it makes me want to cry.")
No ! Not always (The notebook and its sequel)but yes most of the times its some one dying in his novel...
No he don't try to imply readers that love is painful, according to me he just try to imply that no matter what!, Love stands above all tragedies that can happen to one of the lover or both; and what can be a greater tragedy than dying of dear ones!!Also if he don't bring tragedies or obstacle in his love stories then what would be the parameter to prove the truthness and power of love that two people share.
But ya i would agree that spark should think of other obstacles then dying or diseased of one of the two partners!

I agree. His inspiration for the characters of his books are his family. A walk to remember i think was inspired by his sister who died due to sickeness (Same what happened to Jamie).
