Deanna | 16 comments OK, so someone solved my first posting here in mere minutes, so I thought I'd try the one that I have been wondering about for years now...
I loved this book as a child and I named my cat Orlon after the cat in the book. So people ask about the name and I can't tell them where it came from!
It is a children's book, maybe 1st or 2nd grade level? It was a lot of pages for me at that time but still a lot of illustrations, which were very soft pencil/watercolor drawings. I only remember pale pink or orange, but there could have been other colors.
The main character was a little girl (and maybe her sister?). She had lots of animals. One was a kangaroo named Kiki and one was a gray kitten named Orlon. Sorry but that is all I remember.
I would have read this in the early 70's, but since I'm the youngest kid, it could have been around the house for a long time before that. Orlon, the one in the book, was named after a soft fiber that sweaters were made from, and orlon sweaters were really popular in the 50's but had gone out of fashion by the early 60's. I think it was a hardback book with a fabric cover.

Flannery (flannabanana) | 51 comments Me again--creeping you out:) I just love figuring out the mysteries! And I'm pretty sure I found it.

I think it is this book: Evie and Cookie

Perhaps you couldn't find it because the kangaroo's name is Cookie and not Kiki? Also, this is the second book in that series. The first one is called Evie and the Wonderful Kangaroo.

It's not on Goodreads, though. Anyway, hope I solved it!
