Let's just leave it at that.

Yep, thanks to Goodreads I've been able to add much more books on my to-read list than I'll ever be able to read and discover stuff I never would have thought of. And of course there are the books that I want to read that I haven't put on my to-read list yet. I had over a thousand books I wanted to read now it's up to 5,000, and my to-read list here is only just under 3,000!

Both me and my husband have embarrassingly obsessive hobbies: he collects 16mm films and I collect books.

Susan If you check out my avatar, those are my UNREAD books!! Yet, I keep on going and borrowing books from the library!! :) I just know that I'm not alone!!

I noticed the same, though being as that was around the time that I got back into reading in a big way it's probably no more than a coincidence in my case.

I stopped keeping a wish list as I buy enough without being reminded of yet more books I want to buy! I did however set up a shelf on goodreads that I filled with all the books I own that I haven't yet read, which is at 272 books at the moment. It doesn't stop me buying books but it's a constant reminder.

Like others have said, I find that if I see an interesting old out of print book I am far more likely to buy it than a new book - you never know when you might find another copy! I've bought more than a few that I've never seen elsewhere, though sometimes I've bought one and then found another copy in the next shop for a much better price, which is very annoying!

Good nature books I cannot resist, even though I have vast numbers of those to read already. If I find an interesting book on a species I like I have to buy it - I persuade myself that I'm building up a reference library that I can dip into when I want to find out some information, though you could probably do the same thing on the internet. I do read them though, but will be many, many years before I read them all!

I have the same problem with history books, though I 'try' not to buy REALLY heavy and scholarly works that I am unlikely to read (though when I find one in a particularly lovely Folio Society edition it's difficult not to buy it!). I think sometimes that it would be better if I was just into light fiction that I could breeze through! I do like light fiction but half the time I seem to find myself working my way through dense books that take a lot of concentration and time.

Suzanne (suzannevd) | 1 comments Always haha. I just love reading, and I want to have all the books. Now I still have to find the time to read all the books ;)

Debbie (debbie_smith) | 43 comments Yes, I always have. But until I got a kindle I read all of them not too long after getting them. Since it is so easy to add books to the Kindle I have 947 books and have read maybe 250 of them. But I still buy them and will one day catch up.

message 108: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 411 comments I hope to play catch up on all my books as well.

I think it's an illness of a good sort. if only we had sorting hats for all our book collections@!

Lawrence | 108 comments Ok, now that everyone is confessing there love for buying more books than they can read, I must say I'm in the same boat with everyone here. I have a small library of over 900 hardcover & large paperbacks, over 500 on my MP3 player, and over 1200 on my Kindle Fire HD. I had to stop buying them from the library because I've ran out of book space. So now I'm getting the free ones and .99 cents ones on Amazon. Do we need help or what?

message 111: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debbie_smith) | 43 comments Naw, just time to read

Thom Swennes (Yorrick) | 592 comments That is what brought us to this group. That is what sets us apart from others. Some would (or could) describe it as an affliction. I call it a blessing. Reading has expanded my mind (and also my world) more than any other thing I have ever experienced. I would, however, be the first to say nothing compares to experiencing life first hand. Books and the reading of them can add spice to a meal or water to the wine; whatever you are looking for…. God blesses the reader with more books than he/she will ever be able to read.

Alberta Ross (authorshow4506833alberta_ross) | 4 comments Def. dont all readers?:) after all must have enough for choice to come into the equation, and then there's the buisness of keeping two or three on the go at all times, the one for the bedside, the sofa, the handbag, the car and oh you all know - 'tis an addiction but we harm no one:)

message 116: by [deleted user] (new)

YES seeing those stacks of books make me feel good.

message 117: by Sally (new)

Sally The Kindle has made my addiction worse. I'm no longer limited by the space on my bookshelves and if a book is too big and has print too small to read I just buy it on Kindle.

Although i don't watch TV that much but those days i am streched with work.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Of course! I have years and years worth of reading material, yet that doesn't stop me from adding to my collection any time I see a bookstore!

Aaron | 15 comments Yes, but I buy at a slower rate than I used to and more than make up for it with libraries.
