SOLVED. girl's brain transplanted into chimp, main char named Zoe? [s]

I probably read this book in the early 1980's. Just based on the science involved, I would guess it was written no earlier than the 1970's. The girl (Zoe?) was the daughter of a research scientist of some kind. I think she has an accident, and when she wakes up she finds that her brain has been transplanted into a chimpanzee (or some other primate).

I think this is Eva by Peter Dickinson. He is a great writer but this is the only one that really haunted me.

Thank you, that's it! Wow, this was a good lesson for me in how unreliable the memory can be. I was almost positive the girl's name was Zoe, and since the book was written in 1988 I obviously didn't read it in the early '80's. I thought I was a young teen when I read it, but in '88 I was 20 years old!

Ooh, thanks for reminding me of this book. I remember loving it when I was a kid/teenager. I want to read it again now!

It makes sense that you would mix up the names Eva and Zoe; I've read, at least, that they're variations on the same name.
