The first books I started reading in English were the Magic Tree House series when I was 8 and discovered them- now no one can ever get me away from a book :))

In the summer of going to 10 grade.I used to be one of those kids that never liked reading if I was reading I made sure that it wasn't a chapter book (god im so dumb)even when i was younger i made sure it the littlest pages possible for those "100 book challenge" sheets they use to give us in middle school. My mom brought me the movie Twilight and i was so obsessed with it that i brought the book, keeping the receipt as a bookmark because i thought i was gonna return it by never reading it or finishing it.But basically Twilight got me into reading.
They used to make us read at Primary School (sorry I don't know the equivalent of that in America, but it's from the age of like 5 to 11...) - but the teachers made it into a huge competition to see who could read the most books - we had book cards and everything...We had weekly trips to the library where you could pick out anything we wanted to read...
And we we had this Jolly Roger book club, where every week you put 20p into your Jolly Roger account, and at the end of the year, they put together all your money and we had a book sale at school with all new books and you could have anything you could wanted to buy...
I think I read A LOT of Roald Dahl, Michael Rosen...that kind of stuff, but if it wasn't for school I would never be interested in reading...
I never read fairy tale books when I was small. When I was in third grade I began reading books from the library which were far more advanced level for my age. But between 8 th grade to 12 th I kind of lost touch of reading books because I didn't get time. Then Last year I had an accident and I broke my leg. Since I had my leg plastered and couldn't go anywhere I had all the time in the world I began reading books again. I have missed reading so much.
I always wanted to read, but I was never good at it when I was little. So I replaced it with watching movies and series. Always staying a long time in bookstores, but never buying a book. Until the summer of 2010, when I saw the movies of The Twilight Saga for the first time. These movies made me curious about the books. There was a lot of hesitation about whether to buy it in Dutch or English. Dutch is my native language, but I get easily distracted reading Dutch books. So I chose the English version of The Twilight Saga. I’m sooooo glad that I’ve made that choice! I love reading now, It’s like stepping into another world. A great distraction! ;-)
I started reading at about October last year. Wicked Lovely was the first book I ever read and finished. At the time, I just got the book so I can read it to pass the time in school. I never realized that reading would become such a hobby. Ever since then I started to buy and read more books. Translations though, since I never even knew about the store that I go to now.But once I did find out about that store, it's the only book store that I ever wanna go to. Cause every book there is imported, meaning they're in English. It feels so much better reading them in English so I started to buy those and only those. I'm even planning on re-reading Wicked Lovely since I got the imported version. xD
So yeah, what once started as just a time passer at school became a hobby. An obsession, even. My bookshelf isn't filled completely yet, but it's getting closer and closer.
My first book that I read since high school was Twilight. I used to love the series to bits, but I still like them as guilty pleasure reading. Since then I've read more books in the young adult section of the store. Before Twilight, I used to read my friend Meagan's stories because her stories were (and still are) very addicting. Now I betta read her stories.
Well I've always like to read. My first book I think it was the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. But when I really start loving reading was when I read Twilight, after I read the series I start to read more and more until it become my addiction ;)
I never really liked to read until 5th grade when I read the Harry Potter series in two months. Then I read the series of unfortunate events which I hated so much that I stopped reading for fun until 7th grade which is when I read the Twilight saga and I haven't stopped since.
I've loved reading ever since my Mom taught me when I was 4. I have always been a huge bookworm and was the dork in English class who finished the assigned reading WAY ahead of everyone else and then asked to write book reports for extra credit. hahaha I feel incomplete if I don't have a book going and I hope I pass my bookworm genes on to my son and daughter!
I taught myself how to read with these picture books with a tiger in it (that's all I can remember) when I was 4. And I started to read novels when I was 7 and my dad bought a Famous Five book for my brother and I ended up reading it instead of my brother. Well, I got addicted and now I can't stop reading, LTERALLY. If I come home from school I would sit on the sofa and ignore everything (including homework unfortunately) until I finished the book.
i hated reading with a burning passion until 8th grade when my friend got me to read the twilight series and then ive been reading none stop ever since. my homework gets neglected 99 percent of the time during a good book.
Same here...it all started with Twilight... even if i don't feel the same about the books, i will always remember them. i guess it's something about the way a guy can love you unconditionally, and mean it, that makes you want to read more... since then, i read almost anything that has romance and a little bit of supernatural in it. :D
When my sister bought me Vampire Academy(as a birthday present)and then I fell for Dimitri and read the series. When I finished it I wanted to find similar books to VA.When I did I "kind of" became addicted to books. Now I mostly read romance.!!
My mum was reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to me and my brothers when I was 8, and then started the Chamber of Secrets. But I couldn't wait to find out what happenned, so I took the book and read it myself!Since then I have read anything I could find, mostly YA books and crime fiction
When I was five, my favorite book was The Color Kittens. I had my parents read it to me so much that I memorized it. Then I found I could look at the pictures and remember what the words said. That was how it started for me.
When i was in school, i kind of hated reading, but when i came across writers like Douglas Coupland and Bret Easton Ellis and Salinger when i was about 17/18, i fell in love with reading and books and stories,
and never looked back :)
I started reading when I was in primary school. We had the opportunity to buy a series of books every year and my mom insisted to buy them for me.
They were fun and easy stories. And after a while, my mom got me a library-card and since then I read :)
I read SO MUCH when I was little. I loved the Kippenvel! series:

Scary stories for little kids :)
Then I had a pauze for a couple of years and since 2-3 years I started reading again. And since about 1 year I keep track of what I read thanks to GR :)
I started reading since kindergarten but not for fun til maybe around grade 8 where our school has this program called reading buddies, and that is that every week the older students would read to there younger buddies for an hour. It was a great way to find books that interested both of us.
i started reading in preschool. my mom taught me how to with simple books. ive been reading ever since
I started reading when I was in the 6th grade because we have to be in a book group and when we choose the first book in the maximum ride series I couldn't stop reading because I finally found a book I actually liked! So then I ended up reading other books and found that I really loved reading!
i started because my older sister and brother we're always reading and talking about stuff i couldn't add in on so i got jealous and started reading they're books but by then they already moved on but i started to get interested in more and more books and it just picked up from there.
I think I properly started reading my own 'grown up' books when I was about 8. I remember my dad bringing home some books from a fair and amongst them was this babysitters club book 'Mary-anne and the secret in the attic'. I started reading it and literally couldn't put it down. I even told my mum the next morning that I wasn't feeling well, so I could stay home from school and finish reading it. From then on, I fell in love with reading.
I started reading when I was seven. My best friend was reading a small book with witches and she told me the whole story ecxept the end.So, I wanted so muxh to know the end, and I bought the book and read it. Then I realize that books is sth magical. It's a time-place traveller machine...
I had books read to me when I was a kid and tried a few on my own. The Boxcar Children, Goosebumps. But I never could read very well, words got jumbled and mind wondered. Then reading textbooks in college and I hated to read. Then I read Trauma Junkie: Memoirs of an Emergency Flight Nurse and I loved it (I'm a RN now and this was during nursing school). I was proud of finishing a book and I wanted more now that I knew I could. So next was marly and me and then came Twilight and it was over from there! read the whole series in a week and i wanted more more more!!!!! that was 3 years ago. I love exploring new worlds!
Its funny but actually i never liked reading until me and my family moved to Saudi Arebia. When i stared going to my new school and the first thing i had to do was learn English , i met this awesome girl whos my best friend at this moment , and saw her reading A LOT of books then step by step she made me a book adict too:D and right now i cant live without books.

I legit think I started reading before I really started talking. My parents would have to buy me replacement copies of my favorite books because I read them so much and they eventually fell apart. I remember being the only third grader brought up into the 6th grade classroom to check out their books because I'd already read everything in my own classroom!First favorite book was Barrie's Peter Pan, and my first favorite series was the Xanth series by Piers Anthony.
I hated reading. Until my 6th grade year when we had to read for a grade and I got into the Redwall series. Back then I was reading a book a day!!!
I started reading chapter books when I was 6. I started with The babysitters club books and I was hooked on reading ever since. I love to read almost everything and anything. As for the other talk about reading in other languages, I learned how to speak and read in spanish from my husband. I took spanish classes in school but when I got married, I really learned how to speak spanish and I love to find books in spanish to read them as well.
I only started really enjoying reading about 5 years ago or so. I liked to read but I didn't LOVE it. Good ol' Harry Potter started my book obsession, I'll be forever grateful to JK!
I've been reading since I was little, but I didn't read them a lot. When I got to around 10 years old I really started reading when I picked up a Fear Street book titled The Boy Next Door by R.L. Stine. I was hooked. Then in the fifth grade when Twilight was all the rage I read those books and they got me interested in paranormal/fantasy/romance. By the time I was in 6th grade I had a wide variety of books- romance, paranormal, young adult, fantasy, and realistic. Now it's pretty much the same thing. :)
I used to read comics at the age of 4...started reading novels at the age of 8...I started with Harry Potter and read Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew afterwards lol
I'm Italian born in Germany where I grew up as well. I was never really into books. Besides reading the books I was assigned to read from my teacher, sometimes once in a year or so I would buy some romantic teenage book which was quite fun to read but that was pretty much it.I love the English language so last year in July I accidently read some comments of people recommending the book Hush Hush and Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick and I gave it a shot buying them both in English in an Italian bookstore. English books are quite expensive when buying them in Germany or Italy. Anyway me and my family went on vacation last summer and I started reading and ended up reading them EVERYWHERE while waiting in the car, while waiting for my parents to finish breakfast...I was never so into a book. I ended up reading both books in 2 days.
From that moment on I started looking for more ya books I came to know the great great website called goodreads which I visit like 124930 a day and Amazon where I purchase a certain amount of English books ( ya fiction or fantasy books) 1-2 times a month ( much cheaper then in stores). It can get really pricy that's why I plan on getting a part time job now.
But who would have believed that one day I would actually save money to buy books? Me certainly not.
But I can tell you that from last summer on I can't stay one day without reading my book or at least a chapter even if I’m busy preparing for exams. Books are like a drug for me now and if I don't read once a day I feel empty. Reading kinda brings me back into a world where I can just relax! It's a beautiful feeling and I so glad I got to know this “world of book”!! =)
My son is slightly dyslexic and I totally despaired of getting him to read anything at all. Then somebody gave us a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone; he read it in one gulp and demanded more. He is now an avid fan of epic fantasy. So it was all thanks to J.K. Rowling!!
I remember I used to always read Junie B. Jones book when I was younger. :D And then, as cliche as it is, I got into YA from Twilight.
My parents tell me I started reading before I started talking. Not sure how accurate/realistic that is, but I kinda like the idea of having a book in my hand almost since birth. :)
My dad handed me a Stephen King book when i was in high school and i was hook and from there i have move to YA to Fiction to just about anything that catches my fancy!!!
my mom used to read to me when I became very ill in my childhood. After I got better I started to learn to read by myself.
I've always enjoyed reading, but never did it a lot. My sophomore year of high school I believe was when I became and avid reader though. I call this my "rebellious stage" where I was constantly being grounded, (i.e. Haveing electronics and all other means of entertainment taken away) so naturally, I turned to reading, as it was about the only thing I could do being grounded. After a while, grounding was hardly considered a punishment to me :)
