Do you name your car? Do you have a gun named Vera? A guitar named Lucille?
I don't. I already attach too much sentimental value to things without giving them names too. I already cry when I sell a car. I did have a car that came with the name Winnifred, and Zu named Dora the Explorer. I had to work hard not to imagine them putting her down when we traded her during the big government trade in that I'm blanking on the title of.

I did have friends in college who named every single item in their dorm room. There were post-its on every floor tile, every drawer, etc. That was a little too far.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) My 3 year old named his stuffed dog 'Junior Boots.' I have no idea where he got that idea for a name.

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) | 708 comments I haven't named anything since I was in high school. My Honda was named Hannah. Still miss that car.

Stina (stinalee) | 749 comments My car is named Trixie... the one before that was named Bessie (these are my only two cars). I remember having two names I was deciding between when I named Trix, but I don't remember the second choice.

I'm contemplating naming the house, but it has to be something awesome like Manderley or Pemberley or Maxine.

message 5: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart I haven't named anything, but when I drop my iPod, I'm all, "I'm so sorry, baby! are you alright, sweetie?"

message 6: by Jammies (new)

Jammies LOL, Britt, I love that!

My car is named Normal, and that's about it. My father has names for many things in his garage: Rene the (de) golf cart, Snuffaluffagus the leaf vacuum, Huffy the leaf blower, etc.

Sarah | 13814 comments Subaru backwards is U R A Bus.

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments My first car was a Subaru. Even then I didn't name it. It was just the little pony car, because it had to be encouraged going up hills.

This is how Bessie got her name... COME ON BESSIE, YOU CAN DO IT!!

message 10: by Suefly (new)

Suefly | 620 comments I call almost everything 'Bob'. I'm not sure why, but that is my go to name, although I named my Nook 'my very expensive toy'.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments My first car was a '73 Volkswagon Superbeetle. I named him Fred after Fred Sanford because he was loud and dramatic and falling apart and he was always faking a heart attack. I loved him so.

message 13: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 21, 2011 02:45PM) (new)

my car's name is Danny. and i refer to my backpack as Marvin. i also call my ipod Leslie. i talk to them like they're real people. that's about it though.

Redd Foxx was Fred Sanford on Sanford and Son, a long running 70s television sitcom.

He frequently < a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZi31a... faked a heart attack to get his way. It never worked.

message 15: by Carol (new)

Carol | 1678 comments cripes, Barb. Way to make me feel old.

I don't have names for things, but I do talk to them. I teared up when my minivan went to the scrap yard. I was sad when I saw the leftover seat in the garage. I moped when we burned a broken dining room chair in a bonfire.

I fear talking about buying a new car in front of my current car. I don't want to hurt her feelings.

Maybe they didn't have Sanford & Son in Canada. That's what I'm thinking...

message 17: by Aynge (new)

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments I talk to my car sometimes but I haven't named her. Mostly stuff like, "Good girl," and "Can you believe that?" not anything like a conversation. I guess since I can't have a dog, I talk to my car like she's a dog.

message 18: by Paul (new)

Paul (taytothief) I have a name for my first car and my bow. A lot of guys refer to cars/boats/bikes etc. as "her" or "she" though so it's not that unusual I think.

message 19: by Lori (last edited Mar 21, 2011 05:08PM) (new)

Lori Toyo for the car. Guess what make it is? *rolls eyes*

Smelly Nelly was the Ford when I was a tot.

message 20: by Lori (new)

Lori (No body parts?)

message 21: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) I have a Dodge Durango named Donnie Durango...after Donnie Darko, of course!
My husband names all of his vehicles. they are all girl names, so he will say "Nicole did this" or "Rachel was being naughty today" and I'm usually like WTF?? Until I realize it's the fricken truck.

Just teddy bears, back in the day, but they are borderline sentient.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

My car - Betty Bubble

Our pool cleaner - Boris

message 24: by Helena (new)

Helena | 1056 comments I don't think I've ever named anything. I am unaturally attached to many objects, but they don't have names.

@Barb & Heidi: They had Sanford & Son in Canada... I remember it.

message 25: by Louise (new)

Louise We name our cars, mine is Madame Zsa Zsa and my husbands is Ragnhild.
He named our first dishwasher and our watchdragon :-)

I love your pool cleaner's name, Gail! :) Cute.

My mom named her '76 camaro "Betsy." As the years passed, she became "Ole Betsy." She talked to her car alot, too... gently coaxing it to behave.

Also, I'm glad to know the Canadians weren't deprived of Sanford & Son... just Barb. :)

message 27: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1106 comments I name my toys. And pillows.

Louise, how do you pronounce Ragnhild?

message 28: by Louise (new)

Louise Well it's an icelandic name (the car is a black audi station car) something like Raavnhild with a hard D

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments NOT body parts.

Damn. And I was so excited.

We have a plunger named "Sean" because my friend Sean caused the need for an extra-strength plunger.

I'm fascinated that so many people name their cars.
