Lily (lilithesque) How many books do you currently have on your TBR list? 294 books

How many bookshelves do you have? 22 --not including Read, tbr, and now reading--

How many unread books do you own (consider eBooks, paperback, and hardcover)? 1/2a box or so. My stuff is in storage so I dont have access to them but I brutally pared it down over the past couple years.

How many books do you want to read for this challenge 4

Step 1: Make new bookshelves and get rid of the irrelevant ones.*Slowly go through all of your books and move them to their appropriate shelves. Now starting this step.

Step 2: While going through your to-read books delete the ones that no longer interest you. (You may be surprised by how many books no longer interest you).

The Reading:

Step 3: Make a list of all the books you own but are unread.

Step 4: After 'cleaning' up your TBR book shelf make a list of the books that you want to read the most. (Tip: You may want to look at the ones that have been on the list the longest)

Step 5: *After completing the list making process, come up with a game plan to read as many books as possible.*Read!

Step 6: list all of the books you read for this challenge below. Let us know if they were pre-owned or on your TBR list

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments OK so last night, in an effort to free up some shelf space-I purged 8 books that I will probably never read. Not a lot but 2 were thicker than usually tradesized and 7 were odd shaped books that were hard to work into the shelves. Not quite tradesized but larger than mass markets. Anyway those 8 books freed up space for 10 or 15 mmps that are on my dest.

7 have already been requested on the trading sites I do. I suspect the other one will be requested some time today since it was wish list.

After purging 120 books from my TBR list, and requesting several from the list from my library, I went to the Friends of the Library book sale. I bought a box and paper grocery sack full of books for $25. I couldn't help myself! So now I'm going to have to add those in to my TBR list (only a few were already on there). So much for keeping my list wittled down to a manageable number.

Lily (lilithesque) I shall embark on this process. I will post as I go.

Some starting questions:

How many books do you currently have on your TBR list? 294 books Update: Still purging (and adding sadlly). Will be done soon. (May 4th)

How many bookshelves do you have? 22 --not including Read, tbr, and now reading--

Kristine Johnson Start date: March 20
End date: June 20

This is a great challenge. I am always saying I need to get caught up on my TBR shelf. Maybe this will help me stay on track.

How many books do you currently have on your TBR list?
I have two TBR lists. One is fiction which has 13 books on it and the other is non-fiction which currently has 5 so I have 18 total. These are all books I own and haven't read. I have separate shelves for the books I would like to read in the future.
How many bookshelves do you have?
I have 9 right now including the originals that you start with. I will probably be adding quite a few more. I want to keep all the books I would like to read later on different genre shelves.
How many unread books do you own?
18
How many books do you want to read for this challenge?
I am going to say 10 for now but I would like to read more than that.

The books I have read so far:
1. The Gates by John Connolly 4.6.11
The Gates by John Connolly
2. Dark Lover by J.R. Ward 4.7.11 (re-read)
Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward
3. XVI by Julia Karr 4.14.11
XVI by Julia Karr
4. Erak's Ransom by John Flanagan
Erak's Ransom (Ranger's Apprentice, #7) by John Flanagan
5. Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

6. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs

Alexandra Brovco (yukino) I'm in! I've been organising my library since December last year, I need a kick.

Pre Challenge Survey

How many books do you currently have on your TBR list?
288 on goodreads, but it's questionable as it's more of a list of books I found interesting while browsing other people's shelves. On my personal list it's less, something like 20.

How many bookshelves do you have?
31 + 3 default.

How many unread books do you own (consider eBooks, paperback, and hardcover)?
Good Lord, a lot. Roughly 3000 paper, ebooks I'm too scared to count. It's entire family's libraries combined, though.

How many books do you want to read for this challenge?
I'll be glad if I'll get through most 'currently reading' books and catch up on my 2011 reading challenge.

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I finally finished adding all the books that I own to the list...well all the physical books. I have a ton of ebooks that I have yet to add but that pile seems to grow daily because most of them are free books. After the move I'll add those :-P

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I purged about 15 books that I've had for a long time and have decided that I'll never read. Not a huge number but it's something.

I've also read a few books that I've had for a long time that I keep passing over for newly acquired ones.

Lily (lilithesque) Goodreads tbr shelf spring cleaning 2011

How many books do you currently have on your TBR list? 294 books at start. Update as of May 4th: 266 Still purging--and adding. OK, for now I have 220 on my tbr shelf and will call it good. A reduction of 74.

Step 3: Books are in storage. will skip.

Step 4: After 'cleaning' up your TBR book shelf make a list of the books that you want to read the most.
1. Tangled Threads
2. Blood and Honor
3. Undone
4. Deathwish
Tried reading but cant seem to get into it. (got to 3 out of 4!)

Step 5: *After completing the list making process, come up with a game plan to read as many books as possible.*Read! Ordered them all from library and intergrated them into my challenges, and put them at the front of my tbr list on GR

Step 6: list all of the books you read for this challenge below. Let us know if they were pre-owned or on your TBR list 75%
1. Tangled Threads
2. Undone
3. Deathwish (Read 1/2 and put down).

This process was very helpful. I took control of my tbr list and had fun with it.

Thanks

Did you create any bookshelves? Yes If so, how many? 4
Did you remove any books from your TBR list while organizing your bookshelf? Yes If so, how many? 120. Although it was probably more but I added some owned books in while purging others.
Did this challenge help you to organize your bookshelves or to your wheedle down your TBR list? Definitely! This challenge was a great help in organizing my shelves and pushing myself to read books already on my shelves instead continually adding new books.

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 3 comments Wow...this is going to make me sound like such a junkie. I'm super busy right now, too, so despite my massive TBR numbers, I'll probably only get to a few books.

How many books do you currently have on your TBR list?
-3648 books.

How many bookshelves do you have?
-6 (not including read/to read/currently reading)

How many unread books do you own (consider eBooks, paperback, and hardcover)?
-224 (which, I guess, isn't accurate, because I only keep track of reviewed books here, and plenty of the books I own are rereads)

How many books do you want to read for this challenge?
-Probably ten. (over time)

At least I have as few shelves as possible since I hate extra shelving. (:

How many bookshelves do you have?

How many unread books do you own (consider ebooks, paperback, and hardcover)?
~not sure. I'll have to count & update later
UPDATE: 215 books (including ebooks, paperback, hardcovers, and soon-to-arrive shipments)

How many books do you want to read for this challenge?
~between 20 to 30 (split the difference & make it about 25)

How many unread books do you own (consider eBooks, paperback, and hardcover)? A LOT! I have four packed (as in two rows of books on each shelf) bookcases, plus my kindle is almost full. So all in all, I am guessing I have about 2,500 unread books. And that is actually being pretty conservative. And since I frequent my local library, I always save the books I own for later.
How many books do you want to read for this challenge? About 30, since in spring I am pretty busy gardening and I plan to do a lot of writing in the coming months.

Did you remove any books from your TBR list while organizing your bookshelf? If so, how many? Yes, I removed 234 books from by tbr shelf.
Did this challenge help you to organize your bookshelves or to your wheedle down your TBR list?

This is a very good challenge.

Pre Challenge Survey
How many books do you currently have on your TBR list?
330ish on GR but 704 in my spreadsheet. I'll try to get them to match during this challenge.

How many bookshelves do you have?
363. When you import from a competing site, multi-word tags get split so "coming of age" becomes 3 shelves - "coming," "of," and "age". Lots of cleanup to do.

How many unread books do you own (consider eBooks, paperback, and hardcover)?
212.

How many books do you want to read for this challenge?
30, I think 10 per month is a good goal.

NBRC: Spring Cleaning Reading Challenge

Timeline March - June 2013

SO FAR:

The Cleaning
*Make new bookshelves and get rid of the irrelevant ones.
✔Done!

*Slowly go through all of your books and move them to their
appropriate shelves.
✔Done!

*While going through your to-read books delete the ones that no longer interest you. (You may be surprised by how many books no longer interest you).

Be sure to post the name of the shelves you created or deleted below. As with all of our challenges we want to see your progress.

I've been working on this off and on for two day; hard to cover all I've done:
sorted by genre
sorted by media (bookshelf starts with m-)
sorted by character
sorted by challenge
sorted by theme
deleted most bookshelves with only one book
combined similar sounding/theme bookshelves
moved some to by era bookshelf
divided:
"genre-romance-western-historical"
"genre-romance-western-contemporary"
I had my bookshelves sorted by genre before; however, they were scattered though-out all eight pages. Now they all start with the word "genre."

Lára my shelves are clean! I check my shelves every month, after all that´s why I have them - to help me out. I like all the shelves I have and I´ve worked hard to put the spirit of particular shelf in one word.
*Make new bookshelves and get rid of the irrelevant ones.
nothing wrong with my shelves. they´re clean and organized. The last one I added is "manatee" which is a shelf for 2013 round II challenge (for this group) and I´m curently in process of adding books I´ll read for that challenge
*Slowly go through all of your books and move them to their appropriate shelves.
all the books are in their appropriate shelves. I delete, move and read books monthly, sometimes even weekly.
*While going through your to-read books delete the ones that no longer interest you. (You may be surprised by how many books no longer interest you).
clean, as well.
Be sure to post the name of the shelves you created or deleted below. As with all of our challenges we want to see your progress.
Finally a challenge that´s not a challenge, or at least I´m done with it before starting it. (:
all my shelves are up to date and can be found on
Lára´s Bookshelves
that surely sounds like advertising!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments That is very organized of you, Lára, to do it monthly. Every year I always say I'm going to do that with my tax related info, but I never do.

I know what you mean, I´m like that myself, with some things. Not with books, though. Especially not with books! no point in having bookshelves if they´re not helpful to you. that´s why I keep it simple, one-word to describe all the books joined together, and I actually read books from my maybe shelf. (;

there´s always time to start maintaining things! I´ve learned it when I discovered my hobby: fishkeeping. You just have to keep a hygiene here - weekly. and little by little it comes natural to you.

This thread is excellent for starting.

I'm a little late... hope I can still be part of this challenge. It seems to go well with my personal challenge of reading 250 books this year. My Mt. TBR is a small 239 of my 653 total books. Of course, this doesn't include all the books I got yesterday from the library, the ones I'll be getting next week from the library or the ones I've purchased and haven't read :)

Hopefully, I'll have better control of my shelves... and will be able to add the books I own - most are books I want to read again.

Melissa (ladybug) | 1048 comments NbRC Spring Cleaning Reading Challenge
Duration: March 20 - June 20 2013
Completed: 6/2/13

My Goal is to see my TBR shelf get down to a manageable length and read some that I have had on there a while.

Pre Challenge Survey The Reading

How many books do you currently have on your TBR list? 1764
How many bookshelves do you have? 60
How many unread books do you own (consider eBooks, paperback, and hardcover)? A house full lol
How many books do you want to read for this challenge? As many as I can. :D

The Cleaning

"We wanted to stay true to the challenge name but we were faced with a very difficult question: How does one apply cleaning to books? After much thinking and deliberation we decided to focus on Goodread's bookshelves and TBR lists. Anyone will tell you that much of cleaning involves organization. In fact, some may say that it's the most important part. The objective of this portion of the challenge is to:"

*Make new bookshelves and get rid of the irrelevant ones.
irrelevant/removed bookshelves: New Bookshelves:

middle eastern lit biography-memoir
cupcakes team read
American lit yearly challenge
Asian lit 50 books list

*Slowly go through all of your books and move them to their appropriate shelves.

Completed: 3/10/13

*While going through your to-read books delete the ones that no longer interest you.

Completed: 4/16/13 I have deleted 402 books O_O

The Reading

*Make a list of all the books you own but are unread.

This is impossible. I have over hundreds of unread books. :(

*After 'cleaning' up your TBR book shelf make a list of the books that you want to read the most.
Books I want to read the most:

The Sailmaker's Daughter ★★ 4/22/13 Samurai Game ★★★★★ 6/2/13
Al Capone Shines My Shoes ★★★★ 5/24/13 Gathering Blue ★★★★ 5/22/13
The Return of Sherlock Holmes ★★★★ 5/29/13 The Map of Time ★★★★ 4/30/13
*Books I own

*After completing the list making process, come up with a game plan to read as many books as possible.

*Read!

I am going to use the last of my extension cards to extend this challenge until July 20, 2013
