Do you own any autographs by authors?
Oooo..Guess, I should add in....I don't mean re-production signatures either, to me they don't count...The authentic ones I'm talking about :D!!
My son has a signed copy of one of John Flanagans books. I have Kate Blanchetts signiture in a play she was in. I know, not an author but it was a chance to brag about it.
I had the pleasure of meeting Robin Hobb and she signed my copy of Shaman's Crossing during her visit to Sydney for it's promotion. I found her to be a lovely, gracious lady. While at that bookshop I picked up a book I thought looked interesting and found it to be a signed copy of The Tower of Ravens by Kate Forsyth. I enjoyed the book very much but wished I had found The Witches of Eileanan series first as my book is it's sequel. It would be great to meet Kate one day too.
I have The Autobiography of the Woman the Gestapo Called the White Mouse, Nancy Wake which was published in 1986, and I met this lovely, wonderful amazing lady, and she signed the front of her book for me. I was thrilled, and still am. It is a very special book, by a very special lady.
got a few Cecelia Ahern books signed by her... and another book which i won through the giveaway her on goodreads. oh yes and my friends' books (jane bash & diane krueger) ... there's another one a friend organised for me, but I wouldn't even have a clue who the author was. LOL
I have signed copies of "Awakened" by Ednah Walters, "Death Wish" by Nicole Cleaver and then two bookplates for Michelle Zinks "Prophecy of the Sisters" & "Guardian of the Gate".
Not too many, I've just started getting them when I go to cons. Robert J. Sawyer signed my copy of his novel Wake and Barbara Galler-Smith, the co-author of Druids, signed a copy of her novel for me.
When I was about thirteen I wrote a fan letter to Capt. W.E. Johns, author of the "Biggles" books, and he sent me a photo and a signed booklet. (I looked at the price of Biggles books on Abe Books last night and nearly fainted. There are about 6000 odd and I didn't get to the end of the list, but must check on the status of the eight or nine I still have. My daughter has another bunch of them. At least she'd better have...)I have a signed copy of "It's A Dog's Life" by Mary Bishop, dated August 11 1958. I know you haven't heard of it, but "Mary Bishop" was the pen name of Lucille King, the wife of our home town veterinarian. It's a whole lot of fun, as all well written books about animals are, a la Gerald Durrell and James Herriott. The funny thing is, though I was in the same class at school as her older daughter Rosalind, I didn't come by the book through either of them. I discovered it in a book exchange when we lived on the Gold Coast many years later.
The third is "Three Tickets to Timbuktu" by Halla Linker, dedicated to "George Caldwell" by Hal, Halla and David Linker. You probably haven't heard of them either, but they were a famous travelling family of Americans (Halla herself was from Iceland!) and the book was published in 1966. Best of all there's a black-and-white photo inside of the family and a man in uniform I presume is George Caldwell. I found the book in our local op shop a couple of years ago.
I think that's all. I'm not about to search my crowded shelves to find out! And of course I have signed copies of the excellent self-published works from three of our local writers group members.
I must have a look at that Biggles list again...

I hadn't really thought about this before, but I do have a modest collection of signed books.I have one signed by Michael Salmon, which I think is The Smartest Kangaroo in Australia, a signed copy of Alex Miller's Lovesong and a copy of Tomorrow When the War began signed by John Marsden (not to me but a friend of a friend, I'm still not sure why she gave it away).
I dont have any :(
but there are a couple good authors coming to supanova this year :D

I started at the reverse end of the Biggles list and found none of mine are worth more than $10 or $12 each. And I'm not about to sell them for that - though it'd pay the cat's last vet bill...
Gosh, for a while there I thought I had a little gold mine stashed away...

I'm not a signature person. I do have an issue of one of the Sandman series signed by Neil Gaiman. And a volume of Girl Genius signed by Phil and Katja Foglio (with off-the-cuff-illustrations done on request!)
I've only got autographs from Christian authors like Bob Sorge, Jerry Benjamin and Lyn Packer. People you guys probably wouldn't know.
I have a few books by Petrea King (one of my all time favourite authors). I attended a conference at which she spoke and was able to have her sign the books for me. It adds a special feeling to have the books signed, and brings back memories. I also have a book signed by John Marsden (in the War series), another book signed by Rachel Kohn (from Radio National - also heard her speak at a conference and was able to chat with her afterwards). Finally a friend of mine has published a few books of poetry - I attended his book launch at the Adelaide Writer's Festival and had him sign a copy for me.

Completely agree...I'm highly doubtful many ppl would know who T-Kid is and possibly even Carl Barks.
I have a couple of Kim Wilkins books autographed. I've also been, recently, asked for my autograph - that was a bit of a buzz

I have some Bryce Courtney books signed when I attended a lunch with him. I've also got signed books by authors Maggi Andersen, Tracey O'hara, Elizabeth Chadwick, Catherine Jinks and Rose Lerner.
Tracey wrote: "I have a couple of Kim Wilkins books autographed. I've also been, recently, asked for my autograph - that was a bit of a buzz"That is awesome! I've had to sign my sig on a production poster, not quite the same, but it was kinda like..woah..lol
And friend of mine asked for my signature so when I become a famous artist (her words not mine) she could cash it in..LOL

Anyone in Sydney this weekend can get signed books at the Australian Romance Readers Conference. Lots of authors will be there. Sadly, I won't be there.

I only have one signed book, but it is (in my opinion) one of the greatest debut novels ever written - David Gemmell's 'Legend'. In 1999 I was living and working in Brighton, England, and Gemmell's home town of Hastings was just up the coast. I was lucky enough to get the signed copy then. A great loss to the Heroic Fantasy genre when he passed away. So many reviews of 'Legend' have been written that I kept my own comment very brief.http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Yes it is.

The book is called
I have two signed by author books: one by Brian Jacques in the Redwall series, the other Shadow of the Hegemon by Orson Scott Card. I got each of the books at readings at our local independent book store. It was the best book store - WAS is the key word. It has since gone out of business. Indies really struggle. Both Jacques and Card read from their books, took questions, and then did signings. Both were great.

Sounds great LauraW, what a terrible shame about your book store...sign of the times I know, but not one we have to be happy about!

I've never had one personally signed IN FRONT OF ME. Which is a whole other experience I can't wait to have. From what I can remember, I have 15+, some of them with my name but mostly just a signature or a sig & a message. It's so funky to get a signed book! ;)
I forgot two more I have - of Alaskan cartoon artists, Chad Carpenter, who does Tundra, and Jamie Smith, who does Nuggets. Both were signed with me there, talking to them about their work. It is rather cool.
I have one from Robert Jordan in a hardcover copy of Crossroads of Twilight. I drove from my uni (during my undergrad, so something like 2003) back to my hometown, about 2 hours, to get a copy signed for one of my friends. His birthday was coming up and I knew he was a huge fan. I figured I'd get a copy signed for myself as well, since I was there anyway and had driven all that way for it. The line was out of the store by the time I got there. Mr. Jordan was so friendly and kind, sharing jokes with some of the fans he seemed to know more intimately. It was lovely, and I don't regret doing it.
Find out when you most local writers festival is on... In Brisbane it's in September. Authors Galore and that's where I got my first Book Signed by Marianne de Pierres... in person in 2007.I've now got Rowena Cory Daniells, Kylie Chan, Trent Jamieson, Tansy Reynor Roberts, Jennifer Fallon, AA Bell and Jack Sim.
Supanova this year was a great place to catch some of the authors above. Look out for who's touring next year.
This is going to be a long one... but I thought I'd share:My first authographed book was a first edition of an Indonesian trilogy, which tells the story of a Javanese village dancer set in the turbulent sixties. I got it autographed during a short story workshop that I took part in when I was in high school. Anyway, it is an Indonesian literary masterpiece and I was a huge fan of the author. A few years later I had lent the books to a boy that I had a mad crush on at Uni. He wasn't too keen on reading the book to begin with, but I persisted, telling him it was going to change his life. BUT, after a month or so I didn't hear a word from him. Went to check on him (and my precious book!) and discovered that a) he is now in a relationship and b) the books were in a flood and could not be recovered so HAD TO BE THROWN OUT! I was soooo furious because he didn't even have the decency to tell me what happened to my AUTOGRAPHED books! Moral of the story: Don't trust a guy who can't appreciate books and never lend your valuable autographed first editions to people you have a crush on (as opposed to people you can trust!).
Here are the covers to the trilogy:
Oh Dhitri, that is a tragedy!!! You would have been soooo upset!! He did his dash with you, that's for sure! Did you try to replace them?

For me, I've gotten three different ones..
One was from James Marsden when I saw him giving a speech about writing while I was in HS. I even got to talk with him :)
Another is from T-Kid 170 (graffiti writer). I purchased the book and I opened it and saw his tag, that was a HUGE thrill for me as I didn't know I was buying a limited edition version of the book.
The last and I hold this one very, very close to my heart, Carl Barks. He is THE DUCK MAN! He has inspired me in SO many ways I cannot describe in writen word. I've two posters with his signature on them. I need to get them framed but honestly I am honored to own his signature. Something I never dreamed possible!!
So yea, shaaaarree :D!!
