We have a couple of weeks until our April Group Read begins so I thought I'd get us started with everyone's favorite getting to know you game!

The Question Game is simple. One person asks a question - the next person answers it and follows up with their own question. The questions can be as simple or complicated as you like and they can be, but do not have to be, book related. We are here to have fun, so do try not to ask anything too personal that might make anyone uncomfortable.

There are only two rules.
1: You cannot ask a yes or no question. That is too easy and it doesn't get people talking.
2: You cannot ask the same question twice.

Feel free to put your two cents in on previously asked questions along the way but remember to continue to ask questions to keep the game flowing.

message 2: by Emi (new)

Emi I guess I'll be the first one to kick off this shin-dig. Alright, here's my question:

Are you a Mac or a PC person?

I've always been a PC person, but really like typing on Mac keyboards. There's just something about the sound that they make...

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I am a PC person too. I'd like to say it is because I'm passionate about the product but it is more of an ignorance is bliss thing. I've never owned a Mac and have limited experiences with them beyond Oregon Trail when I was in grade school. Who didn't love Oregon Trail?

So that is my next question ...

What was your favorite video game growing up?

message 4: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Sonic the Hedgehog. I loved that game... getting a good roll going and collecting all the coins was awesome. :)

Question:
What is your favorite under-rated TV show?

message 5: by Emi (new)

Emi @Elle: I had two favorite games growing up--Harvest Moon and Pokemon. I still play the new versions of both, but I have less time for Harvest Moon nowadays since the games are slowly transforming into a slightly more structured version of The Sims. I kind of need a goal to keep me focused.

@Becky: Hm...favorite under-rated TV show has got to be Merlin or Face-Off on the sci-fi channel. Actually, I don't know if either of those are underrated, but I don't know too many people who enjoy them. Face-Off is AMAZING, though. They actually have talented people on it! *cough cough unlike other reality shows like the Jersey Shore cough cough*

Question:
What word never fails to make you giggle?

message 6: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Mar 21, 2011 10:22AM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments Craptastic. I use it a lot and have other friends who use it. The word isn't even funny, but seeing it reminds me of people, which makes me smile and/or giggle.

I love Merlin, Emi! I agree that not a lot of people watch it though. Big Love is another show which I love that no one I know really watches.

Question :

What are you going to have for dinner tonight?

message 7: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 21, 2011 11:09AM) (new)

I am just going to go ahead and admit that Jersey Shore is my ultimate guilty pleasure. I realize it is maybe the most unintelligent thing on television, but it is like a car crash you can't tear your eyes from.

I love Merlin too! I think that one is probably more underrated in the states than across the pond. BBC had a Robin Hood series I really loved too.

I don't know if it was underrated so much - it was critically acclaimed and won a number of Emmys - but Arrested Development was definitely under appreciated. It didn't find the right audience. So sad.

Firefly though. That is probably my favorite legitimately underrated TV show. Damn Fox!

My giggle worthy word is somewhat inappropriate so if you're easily offended I urge you not to read any further ...

SCHLONG. Ever since I was in middle school I've thought it was a hilarious word.

Question:
Do you have any pets and if so what kind?

message 8: by Erin (new)

Erin I have one dog, a golden retriever named Bailey and two kitties, calico tabbies named Piccolo and Pepper.

Emi wrote: "@Elle: I had two favorite games growing up--Harvest Moon and Pokemon. I still play the new versions of both, but I have less time for Harvest Moon nowadays since the games are slowly transforming i..."

I LOVE Merlin too! Probably one of my favorite TV shows, more people should watch it.

Elle wrote: "I am just going to go ahead and admit that Jersey Shore is my ultimate guilty pleasure. I realize it is maybe the most unintelligent thing on television, but it is like a car crash you can't tear y..."

I LOVE Firely!! I'm in the middle of watching the series on Netflix. I don't understand why it was cancelled, it was such a good show!

Question:
What kind of sports do you like to play/watch?

message 9: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 21, 2011 11:59AM) (new)

Ooh, cute names. I have two canine companions. A big old mutt (shepradormation - German shepherd/labrador/dalmation) called Gunner and a pug called Georgie (or an assortment of nicknames ranging from Toad to Magoo).

Netflix! Yes. I don't know what I'd do without Netflix.

I don't play many sports nowadays, sadly. I suppose if I had people to play them with I might. I like to swim and I use to enjoy tennis quite a bit. Nowadays I just watch football. I tried to get into watching other sports but I have the attention span of a toddler so I can't get into anything where people stand around a lot just waiting for something to happen (baseball) or drive around in circles waiting for someone to crash (racing). I need constant action. I think I'd like soccer if I ever took the time to watch it. Maybe this year?

Question:
What is your favorite book of all time? And why?

message 10: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 85 comments Aw german shepherds! I grew up with one when I was a baby named Alex and I currently have a 11 year old Golden Retierver Duchess!

Oh god! this might depend on the day you ask!! Great and Teribble Beauty, I love her writing, the characters are just so much fun and realistic, and the conscept I really enjoyed, Project 17 was dark and humorious and I could not read that when it was dark outside! Tithe was different when I read it so I enjoyed that, and this lullaby because I could relate to remy when I was reading it, oh! and to kill a mockingbird :) there is just something about it that i'm drawn to

if you were stuck on an island and was only allowed one book series what would it be?

message 11: by Erin (last edited Mar 21, 2011 12:12PM) (new)

Erin Oh my goodness that's a hard one! I would have to say the Bloody Jack series by L.A. Meyer. I love this series so much.

Question:
What is your dream career?

message 12: by Maree (new)

Maree | 99 comments OMG Firefly! My all time favorite anything. I actually just read Finding Serenity Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly by Jane Espenson which was really a fascinating view into the series from a variety of authors' perspectives.

I'm also a super sports nut...I used to coach high school badminton and now coach college racquetball and play coed softball. And love snowboarding!

Okay, down to the real question...I would love to be a legit, published author. I'm working on making it happen!

My turn for a question: what is your all time favorite bumper sticker?

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooh, good question. I'm kinda partial to this one:

Spread tolerance. <3

Question:
If you could have lunch with a figure from history, who would it be?

message 14: by Berit (new)

Berit (grinninberit) | 27 comments Maree wrote: "OMG Firefly! My all time favorite anything. I actually just read Finding Serenity Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly by Jane Espenson which was really a fasc..."

Yay, Firefly! :D

@ Stacia: Your dinner question got skipped! Tonight I am having mushroom burgers with avocado, mayo, onion, tomato, and NC bbq sauce from my only-for-special-occasions stash. Yum!

@ Maree: Not sure if this counts as a bumper sticker, but I remember the first time I saw a Darwin fish (with little feet!) on the back of someone's car after the Jesus fish became really popular. It made totally made my week. I still want one of those Darwin fish.

Question:
Do you do anything crafty (i.e. knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, sketching, batik, sewing, etc.) and if so, what do you do?

Not sure if it counts as a bumper sticker, but

message 15: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 21, 2011 12:59PM) (new)

Craptastic! I missed Stacia's post. I'll answer your question too since I was suppose to anyway. I'm having bratwurst and pirogies for dinner tonight. Mmm!

I'll answer Berit's question and then repeat mine since it was skipped.

I don't do anything really crafty anymore. I use to paint and collage when I was a teen but there just don't ever seem to be enough hours in the day anymore. I guess if you count it, I like to photo manipulate and design layouts for my blog. It is creative but I don't know about crafty.

Question:
If you could have lunch with a figure from history, who would it be?

message 16: by Maree (new)

Maree | 99 comments I wish I was super crafty...I've done scrapbooking in the past, and can knit and crochet the basics. I have a lot of fun with photoshop, and have been toying with the idea of making designs to sell on shirts based on popular books and stuff. Still thinking, though.

Love both those bumper stickers! I was looking at getting a coexist T-shirt...I saw this geek one though!
Link

From history? Good question. If you consider it history, then I'd say Merlin, because I've always wanted that whole King Arthur thing sorted. And if he could do magic, even better. And Stonehenge. But if that's discounted because it might not be a possible history, then I'll have to go with...Amelia Earhart. You might notice from this that I'm big on solving long past puzzles. :)

New question! Who is your favorite superhero?

message 17: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That's a hard question... hmm, how about Doc Holiday, Bonnie and Clyde, or Mary Stuart... I have this weird thing about old gunslingers, lol, I also love Billy the Kid. And I've always been partial to Mary's story.

To go back now, I have the Coexist bumper sticker, I love it.

Firefly is absolutely my favorite under-appreciated show. I adore Joss Whedon.

Elle - I LOVE JERSEY SHORE!!

As I said in the Introduction, I have an old toothless Boston Terrier named Rocky and a kitten named Patches. Oh and a Guinea Pig named Magic.

Favorite Book of all time is Outlander or Where the Red Fern Grows.

My question:
What is something about you that your family or friend thinks is odd?

message 18: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 21, 2011 02:19PM) (new)

You both went at once so ...

I get teased a lot because I don't eat meat on the bone. I love meat but if I am reminded that what I am eating was an animal it grosses me out and I can't eat it. I should probably be a vegetarian but I really love meat. No bones. No skin. Nothing at all that looks like it was alive.

And you guys will learn this about me fast, I'm more partial to villains than heroes so I'm going to say Joker. But I do love pretty much all the X-Men gals. I love Batman too because he isn't so much a superhero as a detective in a cape with awesome gadgets.

What is your favorite restaurant?

message 19: by Erin (new)

Erin favorite restaurant would be The Varsity. It is so good!

Question:
What is your favorite city?

message 20: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Mar 21, 2011 02:22PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments You must be in Atlanta??? Or is there more than one?

My favorite city is San Francisco, with Vancouver coming in a close second. SF is just so charming and eclectic. I love Haight/Ashbury, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli Square...I could go on. I spent so much of my teen years all over the place there. I also like that it's smack dab on the water. It makes for very nice romantic dinners.

What is your favorite mode of transportation?

message 21: by Maree (new)

Maree | 99 comments Yay SF! That's where I am right now. :)

Favorite mode of transportation would have to be a transporter, lol. I want my Star Trek technology now!

Similar to Elle's earlier question, if you could take a time machine and go back to a time, when and where would it be?

message 22: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) Mmm Elle, make it Knackwurst and I am so coming over. <3 German food with the exception being Brats...weird right? lol

The roaring 20's.

Favorite time of year?

message 23: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 85 comments Please whoever said they like the jersey shore please tell me you mean the area and not the show...i'm from that area in jersey and the show is slowly killing my soul

ahh i enjoy the spring the most, the weather is warming up, the plants are coming back to life it is so pretty and the weather is enjoyable :)

what show would you love to jump into?

message 24: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) I'm gonna answer a few of these:

I'm a PC person because Macs are overpriced, inferior hardware.

My favorite underrated TV show is obviously Firefly!

I have an English Springer Spaniel named Samson.

Favorite sports to watch/play: FOOTBALL and college baseball

My favorite bumper sticker:
and also:

My favorite city to visit is NOLA. <3

My favorite times of year are springtime, because it's 80 so it's warm but it isn't humid and stifling yet, and football season for the same reason + football.

I'd jump into Firefly, of course. River and I would kill people with our brains.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Mmm ... The Varsity. I use to live in Atlanta. I know what you're talking about, Erin. That and the Woodfire Grill.

Woo! A lot of Firefly fanage up in here. River and Jenny together. Scary thought! I would definitely want to be on that crew and not against it.

Hillary, I'm like super into German food right now as part of my ongoing desire to learn about my ancestral roots. German seemed a lot easier than Swedish. :p

I think I'd like invisibility. There are so many situations where I would just love to be a fly on the wall. Or, you know, an invisible person in the corner.

Which is kind of an interesting question ...

Question: If you could spy on anyone, who would you want to spy on and why?

I am going to go ahead and answer my own question ... Britney Spears. Either she is fully insane or the most incredibly down-to-earth person ever. I want to know!

message 26: by Berit (new)

Berit (grinninberit) | 27 comments So many fun questions!

I'm a PC person at home, a Mac person at work.

Favorite underrated TV show is definitely Firefly! Can't believe they canceled it, those jerks. Most exciting Firefly-related thing of the year: http://blog.patrickrothfuss.com/2011/...

I have two cats, a tabby named Batman and an orange and white kitten named Nacho.

Favorite restaurant: Chipotle. I could eat a tub of their guacamole with a spoon.

Favorite sport: hmmm...Quidditch?

Love the Coexist bumper sticker! And the unicorn one. :)

Favorite season: fall!

I would SO jump into Star Trek: Next Gen. Guinan and I would hang out all the time.

And my superpower would definitely have to be teleportation!

Question: Who is your favorite love-interest character from a YA book? (I'm going to have to say Nawat from Tamora Pierce's Trickster books...)

message 27: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Good question, right now I'll have to say that my favorite is Thomas MacKee because I just finished The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta . But that can change, I fall in Literary love kinda easy, lol.

Now I'm afraid that I'll double post with someone. I keep refreshing over and over, ha.

What is the worst book you've ever read?

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

If we're talking strictly YA I'd have to say it is a tie between Twilight (really that whole series) and The Awakening. If I had an adult choice, I'd go with The Ice Queen.

What would you say is your most impressive talent?

message 29: by Erin (new)

Erin Most impressive talent either that I can shoot 45 points on a target (out of 50 which means all 5 bullets getting the highest score possible without hitting the bullseye) with a 22 rifle or that I can throw a triple toss with a guard rifle.

Question:
What is your least favorite movie?

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm ... least favorite movie? I don't know. Probably Freddy Got Fingered. Yikes!

What was your favorite cartoon when you were growing up?

message 31: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 85 comments Hmm probably one of the rugrats for TV then possibly Belle or Cinderella for movies :)

Favorite movie villian?

message 32: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Johnny Ringo from Tombstone. I was going to say Doc Holiday too, but I don't think he counts as a villian.

If you could be any Literary heroine who would it be, and why?

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved Chuckie Finster! Just saying ...

Jo March from Little Women. Little Women is my favorite book of all time because I love Jo's tenacity. I'd probably say Sara Crewe from A Little Princess second though. I love a gal with imagination.

Who is your literary crush?

message 34: by Emi (new)

Emi WOAH, small world. I just downloaded Little Women from Goodreads. I've never read it before, but my high school performed the play and I really liked that.

Oooh, this is a tough one. I guess it'd have to be Lend, from Paranormalcy. While I was reading the book, I kept thinking, "Wow, this is a guy I'd totally hang out with if he were real." He was a sweetheart.

What was the most offensive book you ever read?

message 35: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 27, 2011 05:20PM) (new)

Most offensive? Gosh, Emi, way to make a girl think! I hope you really enjoy Little Women. It is such a wonderful book!

I don't know that I've ever read anything that has truly offended me. I can think of a few that were mildly insulting.

I thought Wizard's First Rule was a bit sexist. I read Glee: The Beginning: An Original Novel not too long ago and I thought that exaggerated stereotypes for gay, black, and handicapped persons.

I'd say the most disturbing book I've ever read is Living Dead Girl. I still shudder thinking about that one.

What is the best desert you've ever eaten?

message 36: by Sam (new)

Sam Randall The best desert I have ever had is Palmiers! Yummy! I made them in 7th grade for French class and loved them!

What is the best TV show you have even seen? (current or from your childhood)

message 37: by Maree (new)

Maree | 99 comments Did we do this question already? Or was Firefly just brought up for another awesome reason? Definitely Firefly. :) And I'm going to work on Buffy, promise!

If you could fake an accent, what accent would you choose?

message 38: by Sam (new)

Sam Randall Sorry if we did this question all ready I did read the rule! haha I must have missed it. And I would most definitely want to have an Irish accent! They sound so cool!

What is your favorite candle scent?

message 39: by Erin (new)

Erin Favorite candle scent: Vanilla! or Christmas!

It seems like there are a ton of Firefly fans on this thread. Which is totally awesome because i LOVE Firefly too (it's amazing, River is awesome)

Question:
What is your guilty TV pleasure?

message 40: by Berit (new)

Berit (grinninberit) | 27 comments Extreme Home Makeover! I cry at the end of each show, and sometimes at the beginning, too.

Except stupid Ty Pennington drives me crazy. But they do wonderful things, so I usually grit my teeth and try to tune him out.

If you could live in any period of history, which one would you choose and why?

message 41: by Sam (new)

Sam Randall I would want to live in the 13th century because it is in the middle of the Middle Ages and I am in love with the idea of Kings and Queens in Europe.

If you could be an Animagus (A wizard who can change at will into an animal.) from Harry Potter what animal would you want to change into and why?

message 42: by Maree (new)

Maree | 99 comments A bird! I'd love to be able to soar on thermals. :D

What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?

message 43: by Emi (new)

Emi Hm...does licking something count? I licked a hunk of salt (it was like the size of my hand) in geology class once. I probably shouldn't have, but we were trying to identify the rocks/minerals in front of us, so...

Have you ever been in surgery before? I got stitches for the first time on Wed., and I've decided that I'm not a fan.

message 44: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I've had my appendix removed. One month, almost to the day, after having my daughter.

What's your favorite childhood cartoon?

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved Rainbow Brite. A lot. A lot a lot.

Where is your favorite place to read?

message 46: by Sam (new)

Sam Randall I love to read outside while laying in the grass or in my pool! Unfortunately I can only enjoy those spots in the spring/summer so in the winter I like to read on my couch with a nice fluffy blanket! :)

If you could meet one person from the past, who would it be?

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I'd like to meet Anne Boleyn or Marie Antoinette. History always portrays these two so negatively that I think I'd like to hear their side of the story. They both seem so misunderstood.

If you lived in another time, what time would you prefer?

message 48: by Emi (last edited Apr 05, 2011 05:46PM) (new)

Emi I think it'd be kind of cool to live in the early 1900s (technically, 1895), when film was starting to show up. Then I could say, "Egad! Those pictures are moving!" among other things. We live in a time where those kinds of things are totally normal. It'd be neat to feel a sense of total awe when seeing them for the first time.

Have you ever skipped school/work because you knew that a package was going to show up at your house?

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I skipped class today, because I bought City of Fallen Angels and wanted to finish it...does that count? It was so worth it! Hmmm, I don't think I've ever skipped class in anticipation of a package, especially because I never know when something I've ordered is going to get to my house!

Do you have any weird phobias?

message 50: by Emi (new)

Emi I've skipped class to read a book too! Last week I skipped physics to read The Gray Wolf Throne (Seven Realms, #3) by Cinda Williams Chima . It was totally worth it. ;P

Yes. I hate mayo. I have no idea why, but I freak out if I find out that it's in my food, even if it was one of the key ingredients for the taste. Seriously, even if I've started eating something and like it, if I find out that there's mayo in it I put it down. The condiment freaks me out.

What was the first car you owned?
