Sally906 | 86 comments I remember a radio show back in the 50s - 60s called Listen with Mother - it may have gone on longer but wasn't in Australia when we arrived in 1970. It use to open with the phrase "Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin."

It use to be on every weekday and had songs, nursery rhymes and stories. Was lovely.

Even when they were older we read all the Harry Potter books together with them reading a few pages and then me reading a chapter. They loved it and I can't imagine parents not wanting to do it."

That's great and your kids would of loved the time spent with you, it's a great bonding time,I think! :D

Sadly there are parents who'd rather ignore it or say give the basic excuse of 'no time'..But like you pointed out if you do it just before bed then there isn't really much of an excuse.

It really can make the world of difference! Ah, must stop thinking about work and sleep..lol

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3564 comments We lived in the Pilbara for years. One particularly hot summer, I'd read a chapter, or two, or three of a Narnia book every afternoon for our kids. They hated to stop listening, so that summer we read through three and a half of them!

We share a similar childhood. Was that also on TV as Watch with Mother? Same intro and then Bill and Ben or Andy Pandy etc?
