Here's my 5 and the ultimate rule o..."
Those are good rules to live by.
Hmm. I'm sure I live by many.
Here are some of mine:
*Try not to assume. Chances are you do not know the whole story around the circumstances.
*Only you can watch out and ultimately protect yourself.
*Only you know what's best for you
*You're okay (I say this as practically a mantra when I'm nervous about something)
*Ask advice of everyone, but make your own decisions and then stand by them. (If you followed this one, even if your choice ended up being wrong, you gave it careful thought and consideration, which is more than what anyone could ask for.)
*edit!*
I forgot the one that was recited to me the most!
*When people screw around, people get hurt.
it's applicable for so many things.
These dictate much of my cautious behavior and how I relate to others.

*Live with the wisdom of an elder, the knowledge of an adult, and the heart of a child.
*You can't please everyone, so don't try to.
*Be yourself
*Friends can only have a limited understanding of you, while family has to live with you 24/7 so they know you better.

Well, if you are not completely apathetic and a good person, I feel you will have a better balance than someone who tries to only please others. But sometimes you just can't please anyone and just end up hurting yourself.

*never hurts to be suspicious
*Every matter is worth a bit of thought
*If You haven't heard it from there mouth and assume it without having actual proof...your a idiot
*I don't care how old you are if you don't respect me I don't respect you
*respect and Fear are two different things.
*Never be oblivious to whats obvious
Here's my 5 and the ultimate rule of thumb.
1. Always observe
2. Never assume
3. Question everything
4. Take responsibility for your actions
5. Don't worry about the things beyond your control
The ultimate rule of thumb is never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the paramedics.
