Steven van Doorn (stevenvandoorn) | 10 comments I actually listened to this book on tape probably around 1995ish.

What I remember was that the main characters had one of the very first personal computers. The computer mouse was a new invention.

Also, one of the main characters had a reoccurring dream of walking down a road. In order to control the dream they got a book and formed a sort of garden in the subconscious dreaming mind of the character. Where she could sleep safely.

Later in the dream the main characters "create" 2 other people, who are actually parts of the main character's personality. One is a queen or an enchantress or something, and the other is a gruff guy who drinks too much.

In the end it turned out that the computer was somehow connected to the dream. And also that the computer was absorbing someone into itself. In one of the scenes near the end the main character breaks the computer by touching the 5 points of a pentagon in the opposite direction from normal, while she is dreaming.

I remember that the book was long. If anyone can figure this out... you'll be my hero.

Clare K. R. (clare-dragonfly) | 55 comments I agree that it is most likely Out of the Dark World.

Steven van Doorn (stevenvandoorn) | 10 comments Yes! How do I mark this as solved? Thanks so much! Joann and Clare are my heroes.

I'll move it and shelve it for you, Steven.

In the future, go up to the topic title and to the right of it you'll see an edit link. Click on that, and you can change the folder and click save at the bottom of the page.
