Vlad has the next choice, so no worries there.

And be my guest. This can be a thread of random posts by me :P

message 52: by [deleted user] (new)

So, Vlad, about that book...

message 53: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I may not be able to participate in this round. I am moving at the end of the month, so I really need to focus on the craziness that entails. And before you say anything about all of the other stuff I have on my currently reading list, a large part of that is about to put on hold. Still, who knows. I may have time. I'm just taking things as they come.

message 54: by [deleted user] (new)

I see no rush in starting a group read, really.

I've got other groups I'm in(as I'm sure you all do) and have plenty of other books on my plate.

I just like the randomness idea we've got going here and would hate to see it fall by the wayside is all.

message 55: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I say we shoot for the beginning of May.

As for other clubs, any that you recommend? The ones I am in so far are pretty much very serious or YA so I don't do their group reads.

I'm in the SciFi and Fantasy Book Club, one SciFi and one Fantasy per month:
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1865

Also the Fantasy Aficionados: they do one Epic and one Urban fantasy per month:
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/3...

Sword and Laser, based on a podcast I listen to. They don't do monthly reads, really. Just...whenever they get around to picking a new book:

eta: So as you can see, those are the genres I normally read. Which is why I like our little group read here, since it gives me something completely different(potentially).

message 57: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I'm exploring fantasy & sci-fi more lately, so I will have to check that out. They've always been genres I've enjoyed, but I'd neglected them for awhile.

message 58: by Vlad (new)

Vlad | 43 comments I'm for it.

message 59: by [deleted user] (new)

Beginning of May/end of April?

message 61: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat Damnit, of course there aren't any copies on bookswap. Here's hoping one comes up or I "find" an ebook before the end of the month xD

message 62: by Steve (new)

Steve (mixmix) Sooo. Are we picking a book for May?

message 63: by [deleted user] (new)

Vlad did, since it was his turn to choose

message 64: by Steve (new)

Steve (mixmix) good choice, but one copy in the entire toronto public library and it's overdue by a month :(

anyone find a library copy?

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

Only one copy? Ugh.

If all else fails, I'm sure someone would be able to obtain a copy you could 'borrow'.

message 66: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I'm having issues finding this myself. Can't check the library system where I'm moving yet because I don't have a card and I'm trying to not buy books at the moment. If anyone finds a copy that's fallen off the digital truck, let me know?

message 67: by [deleted user] (new)

So uh.

Anyone need to borrow it?

message 68: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I do. I need to borrow it. Unless you meant does anyone other than me & Steve need to borrow it.

message 69: by Steve (new)

Steve (mixmix) I found a crate of these books lying on the side of the interstate. I heard I can send these things through the internet pipes? PM?

message 70: by [deleted user] (new)

Man, those trucks must just be dropping the crates everywhere.

So if you want to borrow it, I suppose you could pm me or Steve. :)

message 71: by Steve (new)

Steve (mixmix) actually a pretty good dystopia read thus far.. good pick :)

message 72: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I'm looking forward to digging into it, probably after the end of next week. Goddamn moving...

message 73: by [deleted user] (new)

I set the book to start May 1st, to give everyone else a chance and all.

Should I spam the entire group?

message 74: by Lara (new)

Lara Johnson (larajohnson) | 16 comments I'm looking forward to it. Just ordered my (used) copy online.

message 75: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I say spam away

message 76: by Steve (new)

Steve (mixmix) Well I jumped the gun, but it really was a good read. Looking forward to a discussion.

message 77: by [deleted user] (new)

I know we're still in the middle of reading the current selection, but I was wondering if anyone wanted to volunteer to choose the next book?

message 78: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat Ala wrote: "I know we're still in the middle of reading the current selection, but I was wondering if anyone wanted to volunteer to choose the next book?"

I believe you just did.

message 79: by [deleted user] (new)

Nope. Putting it out there for others first.

If no one steps up, I'll choose one of the free books from Project Gutenberg.

But I'd really rather let others take a shot at it first.

message 80: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I don't believe I willingly volunteered...

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

Sure you did! Remember? There was the post with the words and the stuff and-oh look! a distraction!

*flee*

message 82: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat You couldn't even come up with a specific distraction? /shakes head

message 83: by Steve (new)

Steve (mixmix) I'm not ready to pick :)
To be honest this is the first 'book club' I've ever joined, good ol' reddit

message 84: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat So, uh, Ala? It's been a week. I still hear nothing but crickets. Fortunately. Back in Tennessee it would be the cidadas, the creepy motherfuckers. Anyway...book choice?

message 85: by [deleted user] (new)

Uh.

message 86: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat >.>

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

um

message 88: by Steve (new)

Steve (mixmix) hmm.

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

Don't make me choose...

We'll read about sparkly vampires. You've been warned.

Sent a message to someone who participated in the current discussion, seeing if they'd like to choose the next one. Waiting on a response, or for someone else to chime in in this thread.

message 90: by Steve (new)

Steve (mixmix) I'm not a fantasy fan, but was recommended Tigana and plan on starting that soon.. might make a good choice - plus the author is canadian :D

message 91: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I believe Steve just let you off the hook, Ala. I've been wanting to read Tigana as well.

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

Well then, guess Tigana it is.

I've been meaning to read another Kay work for a while, I loved The Lions of al-Rassan.

Give it a week maybe? Or do you think we're done with our current read already?

message 93: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I probably won't start anything for a week or two, just because I don't like having multiple books of the same genre going and I have a fantasy going on right now, but that shouldn't really determine the date of the group read. What does everyone else think?

message 94: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (alanthiana) Oh, a reason to reread Tigana, while reading Black Company for the first time, finishing Mistborn, and starting Wit'chfire? Sounds like fun ^^;;

message 95: by [deleted user] (new)

That's an awful lot of concurrent reading going on there, Jennifer.

Also, that extra apostrophe in Wit'chfire always gets me. Why are you there, little buddy? Are you lost?

message 96: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I can't read multiple books of the same genre at the same time. Gets too confusing.

message 97: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (alanthiana) I like the challenge. Plus, it means not having to bring a book with me everywhere... one in the purse, one at work, one next to the bed, and one in the bathroom!

...no wonder I've got books scattered all over my apartment!

message 98: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm reading 7 books right now, but only one of them is fantasy :)
