Yeah, but there's no rush. We read it at leisure and discuss if the mood takes us. The last thing anyone needs is more pressure added to the holiday season. :-)

Varecia | 956 comments Are there any plans for a new reading challenge in 2016 after we've limped past the Strachey deadline? :-)
I would love to read another series here, but not sure which one. What do you others think?

We could always make our way through all of Hansen's other works. :-)

lol, I might be interested in another series, but not right away, I think. I'm doing two series challenges right now, and I'm beat with both of them. Actually, I can't wait to get back to Strachey. he's up next!

I have actually just bought all eight of the Benjamin Justice series. We could try that one. It looks good and eight books is easier than some of the other series' we've been reading lately.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments We could also consider the Dick Hardesty Mystery series by Dorien Grey https://www.goodreads.com/series/5517... - 15 books

Mark Richard Zubro has two series set in Chicago:
The Paul Turner series features a gay man who is also a single parent to two sons. https://www.goodreads.com/series/4181... - 11 books

The Tom Mason and Scott Carpenter series features an ex-marine who is now a school teacher and his boyfriend who is a baseball player. https://www.goodreads.com/series/4181... - 14 books

I have read a couple of books from each of these series. There is also

Nathan Aldynes Valentine and Lovelace series - 4 books https://www.goodreads.com/series/7500...

The Killian Kendall series by Josh Aeterovich - 5 books https://www.goodreads.com/series/5042...

I haven't read any of those but they do look good.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments If I was going to recommend one series I would go for the Paul Turner series simply because I like the parenting aspect and the way series portrays this.

message 1911: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 695 comments If you're looking for a series, there's also Greg Herren's Chanse MacLeod or Scotty Bradley series and David Lennon's New Orleans series.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments I love Greg Herren's writing and both those series are enjoyable. I have read most of his single stories as well. I read the Chanse series earlier this year and I am half way through Scotty Bradley. I am also half way through Benjamin Justice which is excellent.

I also really like David Lennon's series and I have read the first two books in that series. So many great series to choose from! I actually have all the series mentioned. I am such a book hoarder but I love great mysteries. :)

Calathea | 6034 comments Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch? It was one of the highlights of my reading year 2015, I would love a re-read and there will be a new volume next year.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments I have listened to the first two books on audio and I really enjoyed them too. :) There are some great series out there. It will be difficult to choose.

I would love for this series to get a lot more attention in the U.S., but please be aware that these are urban fantasy/detective stories, and not m/m. There's nothing much sexually graphic until the most recent book(s) in the series and the scene(s) are short. More importantly IMO, this is a series that really, really deserves to be heard — Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is amazing!

Sure, why not. Although only a handful of us (5? 6?) participated even partly in the Strachey Challenge. I think you and Jordan were the only ones getting close to finishing (or finishing!) the challenge.

But if it feels like this is something you guys (at least some of you guys) would enjoy doing, we're happy to set up the challenge.

There seems to be quite a few good suggestions for the next series challenge already — although new suggestions are still welcome!

How would you guys like to proceed? Would you like us to set up a poll or shall we try to decide the series some other way? Would you like the series to be M/M? And would you prefer to have some breathing time before we start a new series challenge?

Fool's Errand is the BOM for both December and January, so you'll have to wait until February with your Kings Rising suggestion.

I think some breathing space would be a good idea and may be a poll. That way we can include all the different series. I don't mind if the books are mm or not.

I second breathing space and a poll.

I really enjoy these series challenges, especially because I'm finding all of these great gay mysteries from years past that I never knew existed. I'm now needing to find a new bookshelf for these books especially, because my mm romance shelves will over flow soon!

Calathea | 6034 comments Hey all yous!
I hope you're enjoying the new year! :-)

There are some very interesting suggestions for another series challenge already. :-)

As the "old" year's challenge is still running until end of January and there is still a BOM to read, here's what Johanna and I thought we'd do:

Let's wait until the Strachey challenge is over and then take one month off (February is rather long this year). Then, at the beginning of March, I'll make up a poll of all suggestions for series challenges that are posted here up until then.

To make sure we're going to have enough participants for a challenge that is presented so prominently on the group homepage we're only going to start a new one if at least five participants vote for and commit to read the winner series.

Would that be okay for everyone?

Sounds good to me. I take it you mean that after the series is picked, there needs to be five participants, not before we know what the series will be?

Antonella | 11568 comments I'd like to suggest for the poll also the Deadly Mistery series by Victor J. Banis, starting with Deadly Nightshade.

It's 7 books. With much encouragement from his friends Victor did write A Prayer for the Dead in 2015, after he had said that he wasn't able to write anymore because of his health conditions.

By the way, they are still collecting money to help Victor with medical bills and rent:

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments We could keep a note of all the different series for future polls. I would like to add:

Ryan Kincaid Mysteries https://www.goodreads.com/series/1273...

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments And

Simon Kirby - Jones
https://www.goodreads.com/series/5038...

Quite short though only four books
