I highly recommend this book and the 1st of this series, Child of Fire. The world is similar to the Call of Chtulhu. The lead character is an ex-con who works for a group of sorcerers whose mission is to destroy dangerous magical beigns called "predators" and those who summon them. He is torn between his desire to protect the innocent and the need to use deadly force to do his job.

It's a fun YA fantasy book. The world is colorful, its history interesting. My favorite thing about this book was its lead character, Han. He is charismatic, smart, and his relationship with his sister is sweet.

What I didn't like is that the point of view switches between Han and Raisa, the princess heir to the queendom. I didn't like her that much and couldn't wait to return to Han's POV.

I'd give it 4 stars. I liked it enough to add the sequel to my list.
