Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments Half-priced books had a sale today so I picked up an armload of books. To read this month is:
Dangerous Angels: The Weetzie Bat Books by Francesca Lia Block
The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima
The Awakening and The Struggle The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith ( I have yet to read this series) and
Auralia's Colors: A Novel by Jeffrey Overstreet

Phew. I am still trying to get through Linger by Maggie Stiefvater and started reading Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

I liked the Warrior Heir. It was different and I felt the series got stronger as it went along. Have fun reading them.

message 3203: by Milly (new)

Milly (bookfiend_milly) Jealousy, the 3rd of Strange Angels series and the Hunger Games audible.

message 3204: by S (new)

S I succumbed to peer pressure and I'm reading The Hunger Games :)

We use the phrase having "ovarian fortitude". I'm with you though. I'm a couple chapters into Dark Flame and am not encouraged by her lack of maturity...

message 3206: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Reyes | 7 comments I just finished the girl in the arena...Very interesting look at violence in society.

message 3207: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I am listening to The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things and the 9th Georgia Nicholson book.

message 3208: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (last edited Sep 07, 2010 08:40AM) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I'm reading Return to Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #2) by Simone Elkeles and I like it so far.

I just finished Three To Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum, #3) by Janet Evanovich and Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White .

message 3209: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep I need to get Return to Paradise. Forgot it is out now :)

message 3210: by Traci (new)

Traci Peep.. how was Paranormalcy? I almost picked that up yesterday but I decided I'd wait until I heard more about it...

message 3211: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) It's good so far Heidi, but I have no idea where it's going. I didn't read what it's about, so of course I don't know whats supposed to happening.

PS. I love Stephanie. I would have read the next one but I haven't written out my reviews and didn't want to get them mixed up.

Isn't it thrilling and fun to re-read books with strong female characters that we read when we were young girls?!

message 3213: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rmenard) | 6 comments Traci/Peep...I just finished Paranormalcy yesterday. It was good. I thought the voice was fantastic, but the major plot points a little familiar. I suppose that can't be helped.

message 3214: by [deleted user] (new)

The Hunger Games...nearly done with the first book, Percy Jackson Series is on deck.

message 3215: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Currently listening to Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1) by L.M. Montgomery . Oldie, but such a goodie and I needed a beloved re-read.

Heidi Becca wrote: "Currently listening to Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1) by L.M. Montgomery. Oldie, but such a goodie and I needed a beloved re-read."

One of my favorites. I own it as well as the DVD's for the movies with Megan Follows as Anne (she did a terrific job).

message 3217: by [deleted user] (new)

Finally started Mockingjay this weekend. I'm about one-third of the way in and almost cried at work today while reading it.

message 3218: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I adore the movies Heidi! I think I'm going to have to read the first three or four then go watch the movies again. It's been awhile and I deserve it.

Hope you find Mockingjay to be satisfying Shannen.

Heidi Shannen wrote: "Finally started Mockingjay this weekend. I'm about one-third of the way in and almost cried at work today while reading it."

I highly recommend reading the Mockingjay thread on here once you are done. It really helped me gather my thoughts on the book.

message 3220: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (shyluck13) | 124 comments Mockingjay was amazing.
I'm reading Forget You by Jennifer Echols which is pretty good so far although I'm only on the twentieth page. Next up is Fire (The Seven Kingdoms, #2) by Kristin Cashore

message 3221: by [deleted user] (new)

Heidi and Becca, don't you find the third film a bit ridiculous? I watched them with my husband (he's really sweet that way) recently and he seemed to know exactly where they veered totally away from the books. Megan was brilliant as Anne though.

Have you read the Emily series by LM Montgomery?

Emily of New Moon
Emily Climbs and
Emily's Quest

I love them too, maybe a teeny bit more, but only because I identify with the character of Emily more than Anne.

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Rachel wrote: "Traci/Peep...I just finished Paranormalcy yesterday. It was good. I thought the voice was fantastic, but the major plot points a little familiar. I suppose that can't be helped."

Rachel I thought it was ok. Cute. I think a lot of people will like it though. I thought the cover was misleading.

This statement coming from Becca makes me very nervous! LOL!

Diabolical Daemonic (DemonicAngel) I'm currently reading The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks.

message 3225: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (marcher08) I just finished Last Days of Summer by Steve Kluger. I don't know if this one is considered YA or not but it was very funny with a tear jerker ending. Great book!

OMG! I have this in my tbr pile. I just randomly found it one day here on GR and added it. I am glad you liked it. I will move it up my pile :)

message 3227: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Amelia the 3rd Anne movie was terrible. I only own the first two. I read the first Emily book, but never finished the series, I am nto sure why. I watched a free episode of the tv show Emily of the New Moon on Amazon VOD, but it depressed the heck out of me. Have you seen the tv show "Avonlea" from the 90's? I love it and recently re-watched all 7 seasons (my library has them).

message 3228: by [deleted user] (new)

I have seen some of Avonlea, Heidi. Is it on Netflix? The Emily series was quite far away from the books, I'd say nearly as far as the third Anne movie! I watched them anyway, the same way I always watch that third Anne movie even though it never fails to irritate me.

message 3229: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) I just started 13 to Life (13 to Life, #1) by Shannon Delany and I just purchased The Body Finder (Body Finder, #1) by Kimberly Derting for my ipod to take with me places.

The 3rd Anne movie is sooooo far away from the books it is not even funny. I am sure you can rent the Avonlea series on Netflix, but it is not streaming that I know of. I would check your library. p.s. I plan to get the tv series Wind at My Back from my library next - it is another Sullivan Entertainment production (same as Anne).

Traci About 80 pages into I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore and it's okay so far. Nothing overly amazing but not bad.

I read 13 to life a few weeks ago. I liked it but the entire time you know what Petir is, it is so obvious I guessed right away. I will read the next in the series and see how it goes from there.

Strange Angels is one of my favorite series, but I do agree if you don't like swearing steer clear.

message 3235: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Shannen wrote: This statement coming from Becca makes me very nervous! LOL!"

Sorry Shannen, didn't mean to make you nervous, it's just one of those books that seems to pull people in opposite directions. I'm liking it a lot more now that I've removed myself from the series and Heidi was right. The thread on here has really helped me gather my thoughts on it and I appreciate the book more after reading the thread than I did at first.

I believe I've seen all the Anne movies, but I can't seem to remember there being a third. What was it called? I remember Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea which seemed to cover the first through the fourth books if I remember right. It's been years since I've watched them and really, like the long version of P&P you just have to love them for the movie's sake rather than how close they are to the books. Movie makers generally change something.

message 3237: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Oh, and I haven't read the rest of her books like the Emily series, but after refreshing my love of Anne and Rilla, I'm planning to look into her others.

Eric Chow (chowsir) | 1 comments I'm reading Kira-Kira by Cynthia Kadohata. Reading it to my beginner/intermediate level English Language Learners to demonstrate thinking-aloud strategies and introduce them to good fiction.

message 3239: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie1301) | 75 comments September is just 8 days old and I already read Catching Fire, Mockingjay of the Hunger Games Series. I also finished Rules of Atraction of the Perfect Chemistry Series and started right after with another Simone Elkeles Series: Leaving Paradise and am currently within Return to Paradise... So September seems to be a great reading month for me :)

I felt the exact same way about Mockingjay. It was so helpful to read other people's comments and views. I loved the different perspectives!

Amanda, do you know if Jealousy is the final book, or will there be more? I'm part way through Betrayals now and really enjoying it, too.

There is going to be 5 books total in the series. Strange Angels, Betrayals and Jealousy are out already, Defiance comes out April of 2011 and the last book is called Sacrifice. Lili St. Crow doesn't have a release date on Sacrifice yet, but usually her turn around on books is 6-8 months. Her website said she was finished with the last book and it is in editing, so I have high hopes it will be out very late next year or Jan 2012.

Oh, yes...there is a third movie. I advise you to NOT watch it, if you haven't already. It isn't so much that they changed "something", they changed darned near EVERYTHING. Instead of her kids going to war, Gilbert goes, and she goes over there to find him, behind enemy lines, because he goes MIA. She adopts some french baby with an American daddy who helps her find Gilbert, but gets killed. It's terrible. Well, if you've read the books it is. The only thing that resembles the books at all is that they stole the characters.

Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel
Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story (Pfft!)

Darryl Markowitz (darrylsmarkowitz) | 15 comments Heather, A series I am really fond of is The Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind, 12 in all.

Then of course my own series, The Faithwalker Series, a very unique read with lots of emotion and thought value.

message 3247: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Becca I agree with Amelia, skip the third Anne movie. It actually came out only 5-10 years ago (way after the first two).

message 3248: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 08, 2010 11:44AM) (new)

Oh Darryl, I just read the first two books of the Terry Goodkind series last week...you and I are NOT book compatible. The first one wasn't too bad, but the second one (in my opinion) was awful! Also, it is very, very not YA.

message 3249: by [deleted user] (new)

Unless you consider repetitive rape and torture YA material...

Don't apologize. I was just worried about the whole Peeta vs. Gale thing. :) I've cried a few times now for Katniss and SO want her to be happy. I've only got about 1/4 left to go.
