Lori (tyme2read) I would love to kayak with the whales. Unfortunately, I am used to a goodsized lake not an ocean.

message 2652: by [deleted user] (new)

I have kayaked in a Fjord very recently. My family and I went up to Canada a couple of weeks ago (sorry Quebec, not Ontario). For two days we stayed in Quebec City and then we went up to La Malbie in the Charlevoix region. We went whale watching then kayaking. They give you very very nice sea kayaks which are extremely stable. you can make them even more stable if you go in a double. I also am used to a lake or pond, but the waves aren't even that high.

Shewt. I kept a stash of post-it flags handy while reading the entire BDB series, true. :))

Jaime (Two Chicks on Books) (arnoldjaime13) I just finished The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa. It is a must read for people who like YA books check out The Iron King first if you haven't read that.

message 2657: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Wow. I was gone all day and come back to this mish mashed thread!

message 2658: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I can see what you are saying about the sexy stuff in The Sky is Everywhere Emily. With 11 year old girls reading books like Breaking Dawn (bed breaking sex, and mutant child birth section), I think it is important for parents to know what their kids are reading. I think The Sky is ok for older teens (16+). p.s. I read North of Beautiful right before reading The Sky, and I loved that one a lot more (less sexy stuff too!).

I have that on my TBR list, too. Though, it'll have to stay there a little while longer, for I'm in the middle of
The Adoration of Jenna Fox. So many books, so little time. :)

@Narcissa- Think noboday answered you yet! I did the whole Sookie Stackhouse series earlier this year and I was really crazy about the books. Of course there were slow moments while reading but all in all it is a great series and I absolutely recommend it to you!

message 2663: by Traci (new)

Traci I agree with Jackie. I loved the first 7 or so.. the new Sookie books are dragging a bit for my taste, but maybe that's because I have to wait a year or so in between each book and kind of forget what's going on :x But I definitely recommend the series as well!

Still on Peter Pan.. it's good but it seems like every time I try to read it I fall asleep. Ugh. Once I finish I'm rereading Hunger Games and Catching Fire in preparation for August 24th! WOO!

message 2664: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I'm reading Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause now and of course I don't like the lead girl. I think others would really like this book, she's a little "tougher" than Rose from Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead .

VA is one of my fav series and the books get better with each one.

I also enjoyed Blood and chocolate, an older book but good nonetheless.

message 2666: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Thanks Emma. VA is pretty popular, a lot of people liked Rose and loved the series.

I think I like B & C so far, I guess I'm just not used to such a sure heroine. We'll see where it goes. Oh, and to those that are wondering, the girl in B & C is a werewolf (or some other fancy term that I can't remember), not a vamp.

message 2667: by Jodie (new)

Jodie (jzb_my_1_only) *warning could be considered a spoiler but not really i don't go into detail*

I am currently reading Spirit Bound #5 of the VA series, it's an amazing book i never want to end. I am only on p. 247 and I must say i am a little aggrevated with Rose at the moment. I usually love her & originally didn't think i could ever want her to end up with anyone besides Demetri, but now I love Adrian and the thought of her breaking is his heart kills me. But it does make for an awesome series so i can't complain too much. I will say i am missing the action of the first few books i am finding myself falling asleep lately =( but i have a feeling the action is about to pick up anytime and i know richelle will run with it =) All in all i reccomend this series to everyone i meet.

Spirit Bound is really, really, really good. The entire series is definitely my fave by far of any others, even though SB isn't at the top of my list. The action is amazing, you just need to get to Victor! And I'm still team Dimka, not matter what!

Right now I'm reading Dime Store Magic (Women of the Otherworld, #3) by Kelley Armstrong by Kelley Armstrong. People say it's not as good as the others, but since I'm just opening up the book now...I can't say :P

I also loved Spirit Bound but there was alot more action in the 4th book and I also enjoyed the change of scenery.Spirit Bound isnt a slow book by any means though and there are lots of things going on to keep you turning the pages, I also kind of feel sorry for Adrian but you know in the end she is going to end up with Dimitri.

I do like Richelle Mead and VA so I tried another one of her series: Georgina Kincaid books, and I really didnt like it, infact I gave up half way through. It was almost like I was reading a book by a different author. Oh well looking forward to Last Sacrifice.

Jackie (jackie1301) | 75 comments I started "Perfect Chemistry" on Saturday Night and I am nearly finished. I have to say I am loving the book even though the story is more than predictible but this is just fun reading. Alejandro and Brittany are just great characters... The story is nothing new, we've seen that story line a million times on movies or read that on books... but in between it is just great! Think I will also do the Sequel about Alex' younger brother Carlos and Kira :) Who else did read "PC" and love it?

message 2672: by Lani (last edited Aug 02, 2010 05:55AM) (new)

Lani (crahfty) | 253 comments I read PC and liked it. I too found it very predictable and pretty cheesy. I liked Rules of Attraction much better. I think it's because Brittany kind of got on my nerves and Kiara was a character I could identify with a little more.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Reading Book Theif. Got it from the library.

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments Sooooo I bought Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris on a whim during a random trip to Borders this weekend and finished it yesterday. It was..interesting. I guess I had heard so many things about this series I expected something completely different. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it, it was just not what I expected. I blame unecessary hype.

I am kind of stuck on Fire Study (Study, #3) by Maria V. Snyder at the moment. It hasn't roped me in in the first 30 pages or so. I have put that to the side for now and I am reading Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #5) by J.R. Ward . Gotta love those brothers. :)

Um, I don't know yet. I kinda put it on hold. I'll finish it though. If you like bolder female leads you might like it. At least try VA first, since more people have read and liked that one.

message 2685: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments Linger was a little slow rolling, but I thought Shiver was as well so I expected it. It does pick up though Jaimie.

message 2686: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I hope so because right now I kind of feel like it should have just been a stand alone and not a series.

I definately recommend Leaving Paradise (and it's sequel, yet to be released). I liked LP better than Perfect Chemistry.

Jaimie-I feel ya. I'm most of the way through Linger and am just now feeling the "don't want to put it down" urge.

I love Stiefvater's writing, but I've also had trouble with the book being from four different perspectives, because they change so frequently. I've actually had to look back at the beginning of the section a couple times to see who's talking. Has anyone else had this problem?

message 2688: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments Lani I had that problem with Linger a couple of times too.

message 2689: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments that is bothering me too, she put two sam parts back to back and it just confused me for like five pages. I can usually finish a book in a day or two once I get started but I just keep setting down the book after each part and forgeting about it. Isabel is the most interesting so far and that is because she while bitchy is showing some personality.

message 2690: by Mercy (new)

Mercy | 9 comments Just finished Graceling, and I loved it! I am so glad that it is a trilogy!! Stalling on non-YA fiction like On the Road and Redeeming Love.
I made the mistake of reserving too many books at the library. now I've got like 35 books piled up and moving in 2 weeks. not cool lol

message 2691: by Amy (new)

Amy | 14 comments I am reading The Iron King right now. My sister just ordered The Iron Daughter so I will read that after she gets done with it :o).

message 2692: by Narcissa (new)

Narcissa Janette (narcissajanette) | 13 comments ive read linger in 2 days which is slow for me ... it wasnt one of those don't want to put it down books ... shiver was much better ;)

message 2693: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 415 comments I finally finished up The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus Trilogy, #1) by Jonathan Stroud last night. As I put in my review - I've mixed feelings about it. But...I'm done with it for now and free to move on. I read The Demigod Files (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) by Rick Riordan today and am now going to concentrate on The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey (Mysterious Benedict Society, #2) by Trenton Lee Stewart . I'm looking forward to returning to these characters for another adventure.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Narcissa wrote: "ive read linger in 2 days which is slow for me ... it wasnt one of those don't want to put it down books ... shiver was much better ;)"

I didn't particularly like Shiver (didn't hate it). It was a little mushy and not plot-driven enough for me. Should I just avoid Linger then?

message 2695: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Linger is starting to get interesting - not quite can't put it down status but def more into it now. Yeah!

message 2696: by Traci (new)

Hey, friends-
above are two links to a new book released this summer, June 21st to be exact. One is for download, the other for regular order. Not to sound cliche-ish, but dont be fooled by the cover. Strong messages inside, particularly towards teens and gang violence. Becoming a favorite among teens and young adults. Let me know what you think once you dive into it. ;)

message 2698: by Lani (new)

Lani (crahfty) | 253 comments I finished Linger and have mixed feelings about it. I loved the characters, but (as discussed before) had some trouble keeping track of whose eyes I was looking through. I absolutely loved Cole! Stiefvater's writing is wonderful and I will definately read the next book, I just am still digesting this one.

I have moved on to reading Darkfever, finally! But I have to say it's slow going. I'm about 8 or 9 chapters in and nothing has really happened. It's holding my interest because the Fae seem different from any other book I've read, but I was hoping for some action already-if you know what I mean...

message 2699: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Finished Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater and even though i had a hard time getting into it the first half of the book I am so glad I pushed through because it turned out to be really sweet. Her writting is great of course but it was a bit boring for awhile. I wanted more of the new wolf but think if you loved Shiver you will like or maybe love Linger.

message 2700: by Susan (new)

Susan I just joined this group so... I know none of you people. ;)
I just finished Linger... like, two minutes ago. I thought it was a little hard to get into at first, but I kept reading it. Today, I read the last hundred pages immediately. I got really caught up in the end, and now I'm anxiously awaiting Forever.

I'm going to start Eragon, The Inheritance Cycle book 1 (it seems like I'm the only one who hasn't read that series.) Is it as good as I keep hearing people say? Is it worth my time to read through anything that might be slow because it's great in the end?
