Peep (Pop! Pop!) It's not techie Jaimie! Shannen's is customized too. Just a custom screensaver (comics) and fonts. I have a skin on it on account of it getting scratched when it fell down the stairs.

I just got an oberon cover and borsa bella bag for mine in the mail today! It was naked before. lol I need to get a skin for it still.

Traci I got a Nook for Christmas and I just have to say that I'm much more of a paper book person. I almost avoid reading on the Nook because.. well I don't really know why. There's something about physically holding a book and turning the pages. Plus I love putting the book up on my shelf when I'm done. However, Barnes & Noble has started giving away free classic ebooks every week so I've been jumping on that deal.. currently reading Peter Pan :]

message 2604: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I love real books too Traci. I have to physically flip pages to see how many are left in a chapter or how far along I am in a book.

Only if the other person is on your account. Then you both get anything you purchase. It is one of the draw backs of a kindle. I never shared books before though, so that part doesn't bother me.

message 2608: by [deleted user] (new)

Did everyone see the news that the Kindle 3 is coming out next month??? There are two versions...one with whispernet and wi-fi for $189 and one with wi-fi only for $139. It will also be offered in white or graphite. Happy shopping!

message 2609: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Um...is this, or is this not, the "what are you reading thread" people??

message 2610: by Jaimie (last edited Jul 29, 2010 09:33AM) (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments It's been awhile since we have been this off topic - yeah! - and yes I saw they have a kindle 3 coming out that is the one my bf just ordered me. The only stupid thing is that now I have to wait a month to buy any new books. My library did just get some new books though including Linger! Stoked - and yes I don't think an ereader will ever replace my love for paper books but my house is so very tiny with three full sized bookshelves already double parked on each shelf and stacks of books around the living room I will give in to technology. BTW Heidi - don't you do most of your reading with audiobooks? There is no paper in an audiobook! haha ;)

message 2611: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Heidi made a good point, you guys should stay on topic. Sheesh.

Shannen or Jaimie go start a Kindle thread so we can brag about how good we have it! And we can guess how many off-topic conversations Heidi's been in.

Oh, and I am reading The Hole in the Wall

message 2612: by [deleted user] (new)

Jaimie and Peep - LOL! No paper in an audiobook! Yes! And don't get me started on the off-topic thing. We can't keep a thread on-topic to save our lives!

message 2613: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Peep I don't have one yet so I can't brag about anything but the day will come!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I'm years behind but I'm just now reading the Uglies series. Starting Special today.

(I'm also listening to Grave Peril by Jim Butcher on audiobook)

message 2615: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments hahaha! Just finished Dark Lover. Not as embarrassed about it as I thought I would be. I'm totally intrigued by the storyline and the erotic parts are just the cherry. lol! Never thought I'd say that.

Double ugh!

message 2619: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 415 comments I have about 130 pages left of The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus Trilogy, #1) by Jonathan Stroud and am having difficulty finishing it up. I'm not sure if it is because I can only read little snippets at a time, or if I just have a hard time with fantasy now. I read so much fantasy in the past that I burned out on it. Current exceptions being George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire and Patrick Rothfuss...and MAYBE Terry Goodkind if I can get back into the Sword of Truth series to finish it up - but that started wearing thin too.

Sigh.

message 2620: by Becca (new)

Becca (beccareadsalot) | 2 comments I just finished 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. It was Amazing. I just read a bunch of YA novels for a class (Wintergirls, If I stay, Speak, The Hate List) and this one was by far the best. In fact, it was the best book Ive read in 6 months or so!! Check it out and the authors website to go with it!

I loved that series, but I listened to it on audiobook, and the narrator is phenomenal which makes a huge difference. My little brother was trying to read them and couldn't get into them, but the minute he switched to audio he fell in love with it. The story is definitely worth finishing the series for, so if you're having a hard time getting into it, I would recommend switching.

message 2622: by Kathyv (new)

Kathyv | 2 comments I just read, and I recommend John Cicero's Rainbow's Shadow And The Covenant Of Wisdom

What a ride! This book has such a great message. Everyone should find the path and experience the Covenant of Wisdom

I just finished it too. Now I only have one Marillier book to read until her new one comes out. I have read all of her books in the past two months and she has become my favorite author. It makes me sad that so many people have not discovered these wonderful books. They are kind of hard to find in bookstores, maybe because she is an Australian author? Her stories are incredible.

message 2624: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I never had a problem finding them Terry, but my library system rocks! It's huge in everything except for downloadable audiobooks. We'll see how easy all her books are to find in print when I buy them for myself for Christmas.

message 2625: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (mamallama) | 21 comments My son finally talked me into reading Artemis Fowl. I have to admit that I am enjoying it. Will probably read the others in the series.

message 2626: by Celine (new)

Celine Parker Reading Plain Kate by Erin Bow, and even though I've read about 60 pages it's not very interesting yet

message 2627: by Lani (new)

Lani (crahfty) | 253 comments Off Topic? Never! lol, I often have to scroll to the top of the thread in this group to figure out what we're supposed to be talking about.

P.S. I'm still working my way through Linger and I'm also listening to One Summer (it's not YA, but my library has a very limited selection of Overdrive audiobooks)

now i ll try to get my hands on copy of linger and i wanted to ask you what do you think about sookie stackhouse?

message 2629: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 97 comments Im currently half way through Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder and Im really enjoying it. I was worried because a lot of the reviews said it wasn't as good as The Poison Study. At this point I would have to disagree. It was a little slow to start with and Valek hasn't played a big role so far, but so far its held my interest and has me wanting to read more.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments I loved Poison Study and Magic Study pretty much equally. I was VERY disappointed in Fire Study. Wish I had not bothered. It's a mish mash of complicated stuff, not as much Valek and even he is irritated with her. I would recommend skipping it and if there is a next one I would try it - or read the reviews first which I should have done on Fire Study.

Thanks Becca, maybe I'll give the rest of the books a try on audio. I haven't really been able to get into audio books in the past, but maybe that's because they were like listening to a politician drone on and on (making them painfully boring). Meanwhile, I've got about 100 pages to go and am determined to struggle along to the finish!

message 2632: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading six books right now: "Common Ground: A Turbulent Decade in the Lives of Three American Families" by J. Anthony Lukas, "Egil's Saga" which some say is by Snorri Sturluson, "King Solomon's Ring" by Konrad Lorenz, "Zeitoun" by Dave Eggers, "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking, and "The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene. I love Common Ground, it is such a good read. I would recommend it to anyone. Egil's Saga is good too, but I would suggest reading it in small bits because it gets a bit overwhelming. King Solomon's Ring is a bit dry, but if you're English you'll appreciate the humor a bit more I think (I don't really know its just that I'm American and the author is British and I assume that you Brits will get the humor more). Zeitoun is also one of my favorites from the bunch. I can see why it was on the New York Times Top Ten list. A Brief History of Time is a Little disappointing for me. I was expecting a bit more from Hawking, but it is also dry, slow, and doesn't go as deep into the topics as I would like so far. The Elegant Universe is everything that Hawking's book isn't. He goes deep but has lots of humor and uses very understandable examples using a lot of the Simpson's which I love. One of the best books ever.

Oh yeah, sorry to get off topic again, but I am 100% for paper books and not Kindle. There's no connection in the Kindle/Nook. A real book provides better emotional attachment, and they've also done studies that show reading a Kindle/Nook isn't the same neurologically. Beat that Kindle! That's science!

message 2633: by Scott (new)

Scott I am currently reading The Circle Trilogy The Complete Trilogy in One Epic Edition (The Circle, #1-3) by Ted Dekker . I haven't gotten very far yet but it is pretty good so far.

Says the non-kindle owner :P And the neurological/emotional are just "real" book readers spending so much time concentrating on keeping the heavy book up. (similar to concentrating during a bench press)

I loved them all - maybe I am in the minority but I thought they each had a different purpose and stage to Yelana and it kept me interested. If it was three books about how awesome her and Valek are it would be really boring - I know how can anything to do with Valek be boring?! I am glad you are liking the series because it is one of my favorites of all time.

Actually the emotional attachments are real. With a real book, you have something to hold and treasure, not just a lifeless, cold hunk of metal. Also, I never hold my book up. I put it on the ground or to the side of me or prop it up, so that idea is debunked. And you can't argue with MRI findings so there.

message 2637: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) You forgot that there's plastic, too.

message 2638: by [deleted user] (new)
