Yeah!

Heather | 166 comments Peep - Got ya! It is very easy to get me confused..

Bluemoon - Red Pyramid is good but you have to get use to the changing POV from the brother/sister. I like it though and hope to finish it by the weekend. Oh yeah, it is like 512 pages!!!

message 2053: by [deleted user] (new)

Kourtni - We have almost the same ratings on all the books we have read. I might have to trust your judgment on Knife and skip it for now. Thinking it will be Jessica Darling or City of Bones next.

message 2054: by Mindy (last edited Jun 17, 2010 04:24PM) (new)

Mindy (mindylu) | 82 comments Heather, I am not very far into The Red Pyramind. I can't seem to find time to read what I want, only school stuff but I like it so far. So far it seems promising. I wish I was a speed reader like Becca!

Sloppy Firsts!

message 2060: by Traci (new)

Traci aahhhh sorry! is there a Fever Series thread?! If not we definitely need one because I need to talk about things! A lot!

I know! Dark haired bad boys who ride motorcycles *swoon*. I had some problems with the book, but Patch is a great character!

I will let you know how I like it when I'm done. Maybe it will get amazing in the next 10-20 pages and I just stopped too soon! :) And I loved City of Bones!

message 2064: by Heather (new)

Heather | 166 comments Has anyone read The Maze Runner? I finished about 2 months ago and it was very good; interesting set up as well and there is a second book coming out. Author's name escapes me right now.

message 2065: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) James Dashner

It's in my pile. I'm waiting till the second one is closer to release since someone said this one ends with some sort of a cliffhanger.

message 2066: by Heather (new)

Heather | 166 comments HA! Thanks Jenny!!! You are smart to wait till the next one is due out. BTW, do you know when the due date is?

message 2067: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) It's on my tbr pile too. I didn't realize it was a series though. Is it a three book series?

message 2068: by Susan (new)

Susan I'm finally reading Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning and wow--what a great book! I dont know why it took me so long to read this but wow!!!!

message 2069: by Susan (new)

Susan Did you love it???

message 2070: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Murphy | 96 comments Bluemoon wrote: "argh! I think I'm the only one who's disliking this series. I really totally get why they consider it a romance novel rather than a thriller/mystery."
Bluemoon:
No, I'm right there with you. Only...I thought romance implied love. And I haven't seen any of that yet. Lots of sexual tension, but surely no love. I'm about to start Dreamfever. Don't ask me why. I'm kind of putting it off. Maybe I'm hoping that the story will develop a little better(does it?) and maybe someone will start to act like they care about more than just themselves(do they?).

message 2071: by [deleted user] (new)

Susan - I knew you would like it because I think we have similar tastes.

Mandi - It's really hard to put this book into a specific genre. You've already read the first three books and don't really care for it?

message 2072: by Heidi (last edited Jun 19, 2010 08:10AM) (new)

Heidi Paige wrote: "I'm reading 3 books: Magyk, which is at a standstill because I haven't gotten around to borrowing it from a friend, City of Ashes, which is really good so far, and The Golden Compass, which I haven..."

I just finished the Golden Compass and was not blown away by it. The whole religion thing just ticked me off.

message 2073: by Heather (new)

Heather | 166 comments Bluemoon - Thanks for the title. Will check out the library when it gets closer. I am keeping my eyes open for Mockingjay and I have little faith I'll get it right away. I am still waiting for Spirit Bound and the library is just now processing it!!!

Peep - I am dying to hear what you think about The Maze Runner.

I've noticed that it is so hard to find people that read YA books, especially the ones I'm reading..

message 2074: by Lani (new)

Lani (crahfty) | 253 comments I've read and loved The Maze Runner! It does have a cliffhanger ending but I thought James Daschner did a good job of wrapping some things up while still leaving a lot of questions for the next book. And I do believe it's a trilogy...

message 2075: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie1301) | 75 comments I read the MI Triology earlier this year and I loved it! I read the three books within a week!

@Lani... I totally agree with you... Patch is a yummy dark charakter!

message 2076: by Amanda (last edited Jun 19, 2010 04:03PM) (new)

Amanda Murphy | 96 comments Bluemoon wrote: "MANDI: Well I read a lot of romance novels when I was younger and it's not all about love, but I get your point. Sexual tension is very much implied in almost all romance novels and I think this is..."

Shannen, I don't usually read books like this, the sex and language give me the heebie-jeebies. I was curious enough to read book 4, which (once you get past that first bit) is a much better developed story than the first three. I'm not only wondering about the characters, but also what will happen in the story. I can't decide what kinds of feelings Barrons and Mac have for each other. There is obviously something there, since he helped Mac through her "healing process". What do you think?

message 2077: by Becky (new)

Becky (becky00) I finished maze runner about a month ago and really enjoyed it. It was good from beginning to end....and that ending!!!! Wish the second book was out already.

message 2078: by Becky (new)

Becky (becky00) I really enjoy the "end of the world" type books. I enjoyed the Life as we Know it seris and enjoyed that. Does anyone have any other suggestions or know of any other books along the same line?

message 2079: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Murphy | 96 comments Okay, ladies! I just stayed up waaaay to late to finish Dreamfever. Now I am hooked. The last part really sucked me in. I have to stop thinking about it so I can SLEEP!

message 2080: by [deleted user] (new)

Mandi - I think they have real feelings for each other but I'm horrible at guessing what is going to happen next in ANY book. ;)

message 2081: by Traci (last edited Jun 20, 2010 03:49AM) (new)

Traci I just finished it, too Mandi! I can't believe we have to wait so long..
I finally got to look at Moning's website (I've been waiting to finish the last book) and did you guys know there's a FeverCon in October?! too cool. unfortunately it's $350, so I'll just have to be there in spirit.

anyway. going to start Incarceron today. I've heard many mixed reviews on this so I'm not hugely excited for it.. oh well

message 2082: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Done with Dreamfever, just started Perfect Fifths (Jessica Darling, #5) by Megan McCafferty .

message 2083: by Becky (new)

Becky (becky00) Bluemoon...thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to have to look at that one.

message 2084: by Lani (new)

Lani (crahfty) | 253 comments OK, I'm officially forgoing my re-read of the Twilight series to start Darkfever. I HAVE to know what all the hype is about!

message 2085: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Becky, I loved the first book in hat series. I read it when my daughter was still young, so it put me in panic mode. I did not like the other two books though.

I looked at my booklist and I've got a ton of fantasy books, some post-apocalyptic ones, zombie, dystopian, and other world ones - but no End of the World books :( (because I think you're looking for books that are about the world ending, and not after it has ended??)

message 2086: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (last edited Jun 21, 2010 06:26AM) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Becky, I found a list here:

http://janni.livejournal.com/331346.html

Pretty cool lj. She posted a list of post-apocalyptic books there. You HAVE to read the Hunger Games series The Hunger Games. That should be your next read :P

Also from there:

"Apocalyptic books (set during, but not so much after, the apocalypse):

Feed by M.T. Anderson
The Carbon Diaries 2015 by Saci Lloyd
The Last Days by Scott Westerfeld (Might be part of Peeps series, if that is a series).

I haven't read any of those three though.

message 2087: by Becky (new)

Becky (becky00) Peep...you are great..thanks so much for the link and suggestions...my list to read is that much longer on goodreads now.

message 2088: by Jenny (last edited Jun 21, 2010 12:08PM) (new)

Jenny (narcisse) That's a pretty good post-apocalyptic list! Some of those look like straight dystopian more than apocalyptic, though I can see how the two would be connected.

Off the top of my head, some stuff that I didn't see on that list:
Cat's Cradle
Fledgling: Jason Steed
The Crying of Lot 49

Also, if you like the dystopian aspects of apocalyptic lit, you could also read stuff like:
Unwind
Brave New World
1984
Fahrenheit 451
The Maze Runner

And I agree that you must read The Hunger Games!

message 2089: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Yep Jenny, I never even thought about a difference in those until I started searching.

Becky I was checking out your shelf, you should try Llama Llama Mad at Mama by Anna Dewdney . My little ones love them. Those, and David Shannon's books like No, David! by David Shannon . The pics are creepy but for some reason my kids love them!

message 2090: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I am starting on Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1) by Simone Elkeles tonight. Not super excited about it. That video still haunts my dreams (or nightmares). p.s. Peep I just decided to buy Never After (for a whopping .6 cents plus shipping), since my library hold was taking way too long. I hope to get it next week sometimes.

message 2091: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Heidi where did you buy it for that price!?!?? And are you sure it's the right one? I MUST have your sources! Oh, and I liked Rules of Attraction better than I liked Perfect Chemistry, even though Alex was the nicer guy of the bunch.

message 2092: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I picked up Perfect Chemistry but have refused to watch the video because I would probably be in the same boat as Heidi.

message 2093: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Oh it's the right book, even though it was confusing, because there is another book that also just came out with that title. Anyhoo I googled it, and multiple places had used in good condition copies for less than a dollar. I bought it from Amazon Marketplace and it was $4.01 with shipping. Sweet!

message 2094: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Oh that is a good price. That sounds like about the same as BetterWorldBooks, which I've recently started using.

It's funny Heidi, especially when you find out why they call him Peter :P

message 2095: by Heidi (new)

Heidi BetterWorldBooks is one of the Amazon merchants, but not the one I used. The one I used has a 100% user rating AND was the cheapest -- what are the odds of that?? I am super excited to read it Peep.

message 2096: by [deleted user] (new)

While reading Perfect Chemistry, I pictured Alex Meraz, who played Paul in New Moon, as Alex Fuentes. YUM! Picture him, Heidi, not that horrible video.

message 2097: by Christina (new)

Christina | 9 comments I am reading Patient Zero: A Joe Ledger Novel" and I am really liking it

message 2098: by Rochelle (new)

Rochelle (itsmechelly) | 45 comments Finished Sookie #5 Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5) by Charlaine Harris and it was just as bad as Sookie #4. Maybe worse. Sookie is very whiny in this one and the ending was very unconvincing. Will I make it to part 6? Who knows?

Anyway, moving on to the Evernight series Evernight (Evernight, #1) by Claudia Gray and the Immortals series Evermore (The Immortals, #1) by Alyson Noel

message 2099: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Right now I am reading Stork by Wendy Delsol, its different and so far its not real bad. I have noticed a lot of YA I read starts out a bit slow then has great finishes so I am sticking to it.

Also reading Forget Her Nots by Amy Brecount White, which has me curious enough to keep going to see what happens.

Then I have Siren by Tricia Rayburn, sounds interesting so hopefully it is. :)

message 2100: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Stormi, Stork is on my tbr list. I hadn't realized it had come out already.
