Becca | 1608 comments I actually am liking Uglies so far. The romantic part seems a little contrived really, but the rest of the story is really very engaging. It's been a neat premise and the details are very good so far. The only problem I see with the book is the relationship details between David and the MC are missing which makes it fall pretty flat.

I've heard that Peeps is Westerfield's best novel to date, but I haven't read hardly any of them so I wouldn't know.

Becca | 1608 comments Just finished Uglies. Good imo. Very interesting premise, although the character description/development wasn't really great for a couple of key characters.

message 1753: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (elainereads) | 22 comments I liked Uglies, although it has been a few years since I read it. My middle schools kids, both boys and girls, loved it. It is rare to find a book that both genders enjoy.

Peeps is actually the only Westerfeld novel I've read so far. I really enjoyed it. I was a refreshing twist on the typical vamp novel.

message 1755: by Laura (new)

Laura | 114 comments Becca, I definitely agree with you about the character development--Tally and Shay's relationship throughout the series confused me, and David was a tad meh. But I still stick by it as a worthwhile read. I'm glad you liked it better than the other series your sister pushed!

Hm, maybe I should try Peeps sometime. I've actually been avoiding it because I read somewhere it was his worst novel. I wouldn't call Scott Westerfeld a favorite author of mine, but he sure does have some interesting ideas.

message 1756: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Tally and Shay's relationship and David and Tally's relationship both just seemed really contrived. There didn't seem to be anything that would cement such a deep connection. It's like he just assumed we'd get it and moved on. Bleh! But the premise and actual storyline was great, definitely a five star premise, but it looses a star in the relationships category.

Really interesting idea and I'm interested to see where he takes the story after this, so the next ones are definitely on the tbr pile.

message 1757: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Still listening to the following on audio: Will Grayson Will Grayson - loving it, Dancing in My Nuddy Pants - loving it, and The Golden Compass - liking it/almost loving it.

message 1758: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Yeah Heidi! Those are all on my favorites list - well Georgia is one of the funniest characters I have ever read so you know big heart there. I really, really liked/loved the His Dark Materials trillogy and of course anything John Green writes I am a fan of.

message 1759: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Jaimie I love Tiny! Or has he would say I loooooooooooooove HIM!

message 1760: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Oh I know! Like I said in my review - the biggest and gayest love of my life!

message 1761: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Just finished The King of Attolia (The Queen's Thief, #3) by Megan Whalen Turner and I'm not sure how much I like it. I gave it four stars, but I'm thinking three. I felt like the author was trying too hard to keep me in the dark and it really wasn't working. I didn't appreciate it. The first book is still the best of the series.

message 1762: by Mindy (new)

Mindy (mindylu) | 82 comments Becca, honestly I can't remember everything from the story but I liked the series. I agree with you on the first book.

message 1763: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I'm currently reading:

The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles, #1) by Rick Riordan , Flyte (Septimus Heap, #2) by Angie Sage , and [image error]

message 1764: by Traci (new)

Traci I just finished The Awakening (Darkest Powers, #2) by Kelley Armstrong and I loved it. I am adoring this series so far. I should be getting some sleep but I think I'm just going to dive right into the next one. We'll see how work goes tomorrow with no sleep...

[book:Leaving Paradise
won't disappoint, but good luck with Fallen I wasn't that crazy about it.

I just finished Intertwined and was not impressed. It felt to disjointed and was a thick book where not a lot happened.

I'm currently reading North of Beautiful and loving it! I can't wait to see how the characters develop!

message 1766: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Yesterday I was going to get North of Beautiful with my coupon, but it was more expensive for an ebook than it was for the hardcover! I went to the bookstore to get it, but they didn't have it, so I got something else instead. I've heard really great things about it!

message 1767: by Lani (new)

Lani (crahfty) | 253 comments I'll let you know what I think about it when I'm done. I have my library's copy.

Me too. Me too. I want to read that, so let me know!

message 1769: by [deleted user] (new)

Traci - I love the Darkest Powers series! You won't be disappointed with the last book. :)

Lani - I want to read Intertwined but now I'm not so sure. Let me know how Fallen goes for you.

message 1770: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished Pretty Little Liars and just started Shades of Midnight which is not YA.

message 1771: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Shannen wrote: "Finished Pretty Little Liars and just started Shades of Midnight which is not YA."

Shannen you pick the books with the worst covers! That Shades of Midnight is racy!

message 1772: by Heidi (last edited Jun 03, 2010 09:32AM) (new)

Heidi Ok people, I have 3 YA books to read and I keep going back and forth about which one to start tonight. The choices are: Leaving Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #1) by Simone Elkeles , Fourth Comings (Jessica Darling, #4) by Megan McCafferty , and Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder I need help (in more ways than one)!

message 1773: by [deleted user] (new)

Heidi wrote: "Shannen you pick the books with the worst covers! That Shades of Midnight is racy! "

It IS a racy book! It's part of the Midnight Breed series. Kind of like Black Dagger Brotherhood. :)

Read Leaving Paradise and tell me how you liked it!

message 1774: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Leaving paradise takes no time at all to read so I would do it then Magic Study, then Fourth Comings. Mix it up a bit.

message 1775: by Heidi (new)

Heidi OK. Leaving Paradise it is ladies. Thanks so much :)

message 1776: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Yes!

message 1777: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Reading The Wizard Heir right now and liking it just as much as the first one so far. The story line has been quick but well developed up to this point.

Elaine (elainereads) | 22 comments Reading LKH's Bullet - no sleep for me tonight!

message 1779: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (closer2coma86) | 83 comments I started All Unquiet Things by Anna Jarzab a couple nights ago. I'm about 100 pages in and so far it's just meh. The summary sounded so interesting. I'll keep going and see if it grabs my attention.

I plan to listen to the first book on audio, and bought this for my nephew for Christmas. Glad to know you like it.

I added this to my shelf to read, would it be okay for a 11 yr old boy who reads above his level?

message 1783: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Teresa - I got it for my 11 year nephew, so I hope it was ok.

Victoria, that's too bad! I was really looking forward to this book, but I admit that my interest in it was largely due to the cool title and cover. I'm a sucker for good covers! Hope it gets better for you!

Becca | 1608 comments Teresa in Ohio wrote: "I added this..."

Ya, it's appropriate for someone a little younger. There isn't any language or explicit scenes or anything, plus it's not a hard reading level. The story is fun and interesting, a little intense in parts, but ends well, so all around a good read for any YA reader.

message 1786: by Ashley (last edited Jun 03, 2010 05:04PM) (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I just finished [image error] . I am now reading the 2nd installment of the series, Better Late Than Never (Gifted, #2) by Marilyn Kaye .

Yes, that one had so much potential. Nothing happened! And everything that did was just so "convenient".

message 1788: by Traci (new)

Traci Just finished The Reckoning and I loved it just as much as the other two. I tore through this series! I don't think I've been this engrossed in a trilogy since the Mortal Instruments.

ANYWAY! I'm going to start Lament tomorrow. I've heard really good things from you guys, but unfortunately, I'm in the minority and I really didn't like Shiver. I'm hoping this one doesn't let me down..

Shannen, Fallen was just so-so for me. It wasn't a page turner, but I didn't feel I had to force my way through it either.

As far as Intertwined, I wasn't impressed. It was obviously a set up for a sequel because just as the action started-the book ended with a quite a few things unresolved. Plus, it felt like the author didn't know what fantasy world she wanted to live in so she just included everything she could think of: ghosts, goblins, vampires, werewolves, witches, faeries...

message 1791: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie1301) | 75 comments Started with "Archangel's Kiss" last night. Love the Guild Hunter series so far... Only 2 books are available by now. But let me tell you: they are definitely not YA... Next YA for me will be "Hush, Hush"...

Elaine (elainereads) | 22 comments Jackie wrote: "Next YA for me will be "Hush..."

Jackie, I read Hush, Hush earlier this week. I was not particularly impressed, but I think the HS girls will like it.

message 1793: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (elainereads) | 22 comments I finished Bullet last night and I started on Shiver. I loved Bullet, but I already want the next one. I think I am going to really like Shiver. I am just a few chapters in so far.

Pattee, I'm reading this right now, I'm about half way through and nothing has really happened yet.

Oops, did it again. MS is middle school.

Dija Currently reading Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost and Hourglass (Evernight, #3) by Claudia Gray

message 1799: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (pocketmermaid) | 38 comments I started reading Tender Morsels, a retelling of "Snow White & Rose Red", a few weeks ago. While I'm loving it I can only handle it in short doses because it is on the graphic/disturbing side. The writing is absolutely gorgeous, though.

I am listening to Shiver on audio. I love the narrator for Grace, but the narrator for Sam seems too old (and his girl voices sound pathetic). I am disc 5 of 9, and I'm already feeling like the story should start wrapping up already.

message 1800: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments Just finished reading Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning last night. I have to say that it is so different from anything I've ever read. It was my first encounter with the Fae world so everything was new and different and a little wierd for me. I think It actually made me blush a few times too. But yeah, I loved it! It was a refreshing change for me.
