Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments I only got to page 62, but so far so good :-)

message 1702: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (elainereads) | 22 comments I'm new to this group. I am a grades 6-12 school librarian, so I started reading YA as part of the job. Now I read it because I love it.

Anyway, I am about to start Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush. It is one of YALSA's Teens Top Ten nominees for this year and I want to read as many as possible over the summer.

message 1703: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Welcome Elaine! You're in the right group.

message 1704: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Murphy | 96 comments I just finished Wake and I LOVED it! I'm also reading one I just plucked off the shelf at the library called Gentlemen. Anybody read that one?

message 1705: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie1301) | 75 comments I finished "Succubus Nights" and will go on to "Angels Blood", the first book of the Guild Hunter series.

message 1706: by Laura (new)

Laura | 114 comments Hi, Elaine! Welcome! I plan on reading Hush, Hush soon, too. You'll have to let us know what you think.

message 1707: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (elainereads) | 22 comments I'm about halfway through Hush, Hush. It's good, but I still don't know where it's going.

message 1708: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie1301) | 75 comments I ordered Hush, Hush yesterday together with part III to IV of Georgina Kincaid series. I only heard good things about Hush, Hush and really looking forward to it!

message 1709: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (elainereads) | 22 comments I finished Hush, Hush last night. Intense is definitely the word for it. Angels seem to be a developing theme in YA books right now.

Cynthia Leitich Smith released Eternal last year which also featured an angel. It was one of the TTT nominees for 2009.

In Hush, Hush, I changed my mind about who the bad guy was several times. Sometimes it was within a couple of pages. This one definitely kept you hanging.

The odd thing is I still can't say if I liked it or not. I do know a number of students who will love it however.

message 1710: by Lani (new)

Lani (crahfty) | 253 comments I just finished Rules of Attraction, the second book in the Perfect Chemistry series and loved it! I even liked it better than Perfect Chemistry! I thought the characters were more realistic and really enjoyed the female lead character, Kiara.

Now I've moved on to Intertwined but I'm having little trouble getting through it. I've had to force myself through the last couple chapters to finally get to some action that keeps my attention. I hope it gets better...

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments Elaine, I really liked Hush Hush and loaned it to my 16 year old granddaughter (we share a LOT of books). She has loaned it to all the girls on her soccer team and said it is really a favorite. I bought another one for myself!

message 1712: by [deleted user] (new)

I have Rules of Attraction and Intertwined and on my TBR list. Good to hear that Rules of Attraction is good. Can't wait to read that one! Really hoping you come back on here and say that Intertwined improved. I've been looking forward to that one.

I'll let you know, Shannen. It may take me awhile to get through though.

Paul | 1 comments reading hunger games
good book so far

message 1715: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie1301) | 75 comments The Hunger Games series is also on my TBR, also Rules of Attraction and Perfect Chemestry... *sighs*... The list is getting longer and longer and I just realized that I did read 13 books within May ... still can't believe that.

message 1716: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Enjoy HG - I am just doing a second go round of Catching Fire now!

message 1717: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie1301) | 75 comments I started "Angels Blood" of the Guild Hunter series this morning. Only on page 50 but really like it so far!

message 1718: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (elainereads) | 22 comments I definitely have to reread The Hunger Games and Catching Fire before Mockingjay comes out in August.

You know, I could get a lot more books read if I didn't feel like I had to reread the earlier ones every time a new one comes out in a series.

message 1719: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments Just finished Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3),Blood Promise, and Spirit Bound while on vacation last week! Nothing like reading on the beach... :)

Almost done reading Fire and I am a little dissapointed I didn't connect with the characters as much as I did with Graceling. I am enjoying the story regardless, just not as wow as Graceling was for me. Anyone else feel that way?

message 1720: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Personally I loved the character of Fire. I thought she was a lot more vulnerable than Katsa and therefore a bit more relatable. When she came into her own I almost cried because I was so proud of her. She is definitely a lot quieter, a lot less sure of herself, and bit more afraid than Katsa, but those are things I love about her character. I thought she changed a grew up a lot more than Katsa did. I loved Katsa, don't get me wrong, but I loved the story of Fire just as much, just in a different way.

message 1721: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments And I can hardly wait to see how the two stories collide in Bitterblue.

I am starting Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld today. I don't know what I'm in for and I've been avoiding this series, so it's about time I read them.

That's on my list for this month! I can't remember who recommended it though :(

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Just finished The Body Finder and am reading the first HP book.

I really like it... It is adult and kind of sensual written, if you know what I mean.

message 1725: by Laura (new)

Laura | 114 comments Becca - Why have you been avoiding Uglies? Don't like the premise?

Peep - Yay for starting HP! :)

message 1726: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I avoided them because my little sister LOVED them and she also loved a series that shall not be named, so I don't take her recommendations highly. However, I've heard good things about it and I'm ready to take the plunge.

Thanks Laura for the encouragement!!

I agree. I was disappointed in Fire as well.

message 1729: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Jaimie since Peep is reading HP, tag you are it!

message 1730: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments soon Heidi, I have the first one so I will probably start it after Catching Fire if I don't do Perfect Chemistry first.

message 1731: by Laura (new)

Laura | 114 comments Becca - Oh, it's quite different from that other series--no need to worry there!

There are aspects of the Uglies series that I absolutely loved and others that I disliked, but I have an overall positive opinion of it.

message 1732: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie1301) | 75 comments I also heard only good things on The Uglies series. Did you all books, Laura?

message 1733: by Alan (new)

Alan (coachmt) | 72 comments Jessica just posted a review of A Measure of Disorder on her blog: A Fanatics Book Blog Thank you Jessica for reading and glad you enjoyed it!

BTW, I have two copies of this up for grabs in GR giveaways atm.

What is the link for the giveaways? I can never find it.

message 1735: by Alan (new)

Alan (coachmt) | 72 comments Here is mine: Giveaway I think you find it from the "explore" tab, but yeah they hide the durn thing ; )

message 1736: by Laura (new)

Laura | 114 comments Jackie wrote: "I also heard only good things on The Uglies series. Did you all books, Laura?"

I think you should definitely check them out, Jackie! Uglies and Pretties were my favorites. Specials was still good but very different from its predecessors and a bit unsettling. The final book, Extras is told from the perspective of a new character in another city, but characters from the first three make an appearance in it. I believe that Scott Westerfeld wrote it because his fans were requesting a more definitive conclusion to the story, which it provides.

message 1737: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I already registered for the Giveaway Alan :)

message 1738: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I have heard mixed things about the Uglies, it doesn't seem like my thing so I am skipping it. I may try his other series (Midnighters) though.

message 1739: by Laura (last edited Jun 01, 2010 01:05PM) (new)

Laura | 114 comments I wouldn't completely rule out Uglies, Heidi. It's really a great dystopian series, and I think the description doesn't do it justice at all. The emotional and romantic parts of the story were a little off for me, but I enjoyed the plot and Westerfeld's take on a corrupt post-apocalyptic government.

Midnighters is a clever premise and has some really cool action, but just as in Uglies, the romantic parts still fell a bit flat.

I still think they're both unique, interesting stories!

message 1740: by [deleted user] (new)

Now that I've read two of the Midnighters books, I need to add the Uglies series to my list. Laura is right that the romantic parts of the Midnighters series were just so-so but the adventure part was really good. The Midnighters was a pleasant surprise. :)

message 1741: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I'll start with the Midnighters and see how it goes :)

message 1742: by Laura (new)

Laura | 114 comments Haha, sounds good!

message 1743: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Murphy | 96 comments Just finished Gentlemen. Wow! It's kind of a heavy read about four boys that are low on the totem pole at school (and in the world in general) and what happens when one of them goes missing and the other three suspect one of their teachers of criminal behavior. I really like it, but it was heavy and didn't exactly come away with a happy ending.

I'm starting Elsewhere now.

message 1744: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Don't believe the hype Heidi!! :P

message 1745: by [deleted user] (new)

The hype about which book, Peep?

message 1746: by Heidi (new)

Heidi My question exactly Shannen!

message 1747: by ♥Alyssa♥ (new)

♥Alyssa♥ (horsegirl1997) | 2 comments I'm reading the "Darkest Powers" series by Kelley Armstrong, and I'm on the third book, "The Reckoning". The first is "The Summoning" and the second is "The Awakening" and they are very exciting. I really like them. Also, I'm not meaning this as spam, but join Teen Book Club because it also talks about young adult books. tHanks and plz dont flag this.

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I was referring to Scott Westerfield but realized I didn't know what the Midnighters was, just the Uglies (which I hated). Also, I have his other book, Peeps, on my to read list - which doesn't help my bashing either.

Alyssa we wouldn't flag you!

Thanks, because I made a new group and I wanted people to join, but I thought you guys would take it as spam so thanks for not flagging Peep.

message 1750: by Heidi (new)

Heidi No worries Peep. I am holding strong in my banning of the Uglies :)
