I started

on audiobook yesterday. I am almost done with Knocked Out By My Nunga Nuga's and loving it.
Hi Everyone, my name is Kasia, I mostly read horror and fantasy but I've been on a Young Adult kick lately, recently finished reading Beautiful Creatures, The Dark Divine, The Summer I Turned Pretty ( amazing) and now I'm reading Bloom by Elizabet Scott. Addiction genre but it's nice to be able to enjoy even if I'm in my late 20's :)
I'm finishing up Beautiful Creatures - I started reading it this morning and obviously I'm enjoying it so much I should be finished by the end of the day. Last night finished Ace of Hearts by Jean Holloway.
Kasia wrote: "Hi Everyone, my name is Kasia, I mostly read horror and fantasy but I've been on a Young Adult kick lately, recently finished reading Beautiful Creatures, The Dark Divine, The Summer I Turned Prett..."I know what you mean! I love the young adult genre even though I am in my late 20's I enjoy reading the many stories. I just finished reading the latest house of night novel and I am reading like 20 other series.
I just started Aurelia by Anne Osterlund. Though the memory of If I Stay is still swimming around in my thoughts.
Finished Sookie Stackhouse #4 and wasn't impressed at all so it only got 2 stars. It was a bit boring. Going to start #5 soon (because I bought them together) but for now I'm reading Life As We Knew It. The whole "moon getting knocked closer to earth" thing sounds interesting.
I just finished Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready and it's pretty darn good. I highly highly recommend it for fans of Kelley Armstrong's DARKEST POWER series!
I am going to start Heir to Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier next.
Kasia wrote: "now I'm reading Bloom by Elizabeth Scott."Loved that book! I also liked
also by Scott.
I'm reading Beautiful Creatures... and I'm sorry, but I think I'm in the minority that is more annoyed and bored by the length than anything. Too many lulls between the action. I'm about 400 pages in and it's just begun to pick up. I've contemplated putting it down many times. I just don't connect with Ethan or Lena.
I added Shade to my TBR list. Thanks, Amy!
Just finished Unwind which I really liked. It was easy to connect with the characters.
Now I'm reading The Secret Hour and so far, so good!

Hope you like Midnighters, Shannen! I thought it was a pretty well done trilogy. Have you previously read anything by Scott Westerfeld?
No, I haven't read anything by Westerfeld. I'm excited about this series though. :)
I've also read his Uglies series, which I thought was good too. If you end up liking Midnighters, you might want to give Uglies a try. And you'll have to let us know what you thought of the Secret Hour when you're done!
Finished Rick Riordan's The Red Pyramid. Enjoyed it so much that I read it twice! It's even better than the Percy Jackson books!
Jen wrote: "I'm reading Beautiful Creatures... and I'm sorry, but I think I'm in the minority that is more annoyed and bored by the length than anything. Too many lulls between the action. I'm about 400 pages ..."Jen - you are not alone! Beautiful Creatures was beautifully boring to me!
Heidi wrote: "Jen wrote: "I'm reading Beautiful Creatures... and I'm sorry, but I think I'm in the minority that is more annoyed and bored by the length than anything. Not a fan of Beautiful Creatures here either! On another note - at home with the fam for the week and my mom still has dial up! Not kidding, it's the freaking dark ages here so I will not be posting much in order to save my sanity.
Heidi wrote: "Jen wrote: "I'm reading Beautiful Creatures... and I'm sorry, but I think I'm in the minority that is more annoyed and bored by the length than anything. Jaimie - I just asked my co-worker if anyone still had dial up yesterday!! My dad has internet through his cable, but his computer is soooooo slooooowww, so I feel your pain. You will be missed!
im reading Rumors (book 2 of the Luxe series). the first one was good, so im hoping that the rest of the series is too.
Finished Dead in the Family this morning and am now about 70 pages into Lies by Michael Grant. I have to say, Astrid is really annoying the crap out of me in this book. I don't remember disliking her in the other two, but that could be because I haven't read them since last summer. I hope she gets less dumb. :x
Wow, that was like five people in a row coming out to trash Beautiful Creatures. People had been talking about it and so I checked it out, but then I happened to find the "trailer" on the page of the person who made it, and apparently the cost is like $1200. If they paid anything close to that I have to question whether or not they are smart enough to really produce a good book. Judging from peoples' boring complaint though, maybe it does a good job of reflecting the book after all.

Jason wrote: "Wow, that was like five people in a row coming out to trash Beautiful Creatures. I'm wondering whether I need to re-read it to find out why others didn't.
I really wanted to like beautiful creatures, so I think that colored my judgement of it a bit. While I was reading it I liked it.. but when I was done I couldn't really think of why :[
I thought Beautiful Creatures was ok. I enjoyed the unique setting and story line. I felt that there were no surprises though, and there was so much hype surrounding its release, I was disapointed.
As someone who also thought Beautiful Creatures was incredibly boring, I'd say my reason was because I just couldn't connect with the characters. They seemed like great people, but for some strange reason, the emotion wasn't there for me. I've heard others call the book Shiver boring because there wasn't enough action; however, I didn't need very much action in Shiver because the characters pulled me in from page one. I wanted to be immersed in that world. With Beautiful Creatures, I was rather indifferent. I think it's really all about which books are able to strike emotional chords with people.
I agree with you Laura. I cared a lot more about the characters in Shiver than in Beautiful Creatures.
I liked Beautiful Creatures but I loved Shiver. I'm looking forward to the sequel for both of them.
Since I dislike most of the books I read (it seems that way), I hate to jump in and bash a book, especially when so many people here like it and there are enough dislikers already.BUT! I am mad because I rarely buy books and I actually bought that one along with Catching Fire. I was so mad I actually spent money on it. Good reviews and a beautiful cover - makes me sound so easy!
Thanks Emily :) It was the reviews on Amazon that did me in. I should have looked around more but for whatever reason I NEEDED to buy two books. That taught me a lesson!I like the reviews on this site. Sometimes I agree, sometimes it's the complete opposite of what I think, but I guess I just prefer this site over others.
Peep, I was even worse--instead of buying Beautiful Creatures for myself, I bought it for my sister as a Christmas present. And she felt the same way about it that I did. Oops. I based my decision on Amazon's reviews, too. It's so funny, because I'm not too sure why I didn't like Ethan and Lena. I mean, Ethan loves books and misses his mom and is looking for the right girl, and Lena is sweet and quirky and enjoys writing poetry. Sounds pretty good.
But for some weird reason they still just didn't do it for me, lol.
Geez, I'll stop now--I sound like I'm posting in the Disappointing Books thread. (Which I had started for this very book. Lol.)
Well I just got Beautiful Creatures for my birthday and now I am totally and completely NOT excited to read it...
@ Laura - Oh presents, huh? Ouch! Well at least there are a ton of other people that liked the book. Can't please us all, can they? Hahaha. It did have all the right elements for a good story, it just didn't work out for some people (like about 10 of us here). Sorry BC lovers!! I mean no offense!!
I still like how the story came to be though. Wasn't this the book where they wrote a chapter for some teen readers, but the group ended up liking it so much that the ladies wrote the novel?
And there is another one coming out called Beautiful Darkness with a just as nice cover. You know who has beautiful covers? That Becca Fitzpatrick!
Kourtni wrote: "Well I just got Beautiful Creatures for my birthday and now I am totally and completely NOT excited to read it..."Yep, I agree with Emily, a lot of people liked it! You might be one of those people that think we're crazy for disliking BC. I just lurked on your bookshelf, I think you'll actually like it. At least try it. :)
Wow, I absolutely love the cover and the title of Beautiful Darkness. And the description's not bad either...oh no, it's pulling me in again!
Laura wrote: "Wow, I absolutely love the cover and the title of Beautiful Darkness. And the description's not bad either...oh no, it's pulling me in again!"Don't do it!
Heidi wrote: "The best part of Beautiful Creatures was the cover."LOL for me it was all the pages inside : )
Emily wrote: "Teresa, a "trailer" is the same as a movie trailer, but made for a book. Usually a lot of still images with teaser phrases about the story to get people more excited about the book."thanks I didnt know they did that for books.

I hope I like it. I don't have very picky tastes, I like a lot of what I read. Not to mention the cover is really pretty! LOL But it is going to the bottom of my pile now. I have more promising reads. Fire is next! :)
