Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments But that is the best part - the looking. I hardly ever wear heels because I live in the freaking mountains, we just got a foot of snow, not to mention I could never afford them. BUT I can totally appreciate them from afar and covet a pair of my own that would be worn next to never.

message 1202: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I do however indulge myself on very cute boots every winter to make up for the fact that I live in the tundra.

message 1203: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Jaimie what a weird question! My ovaries are my personal business thankyouverymuch! I'm not into shoes and I blame that on my total lack of coordination. I'll just leave all the Carrie love to you :)

Laura | 114 comments Elisa wrote: "Hi everyone! I'm new to the boards. Just about to finish up "Brightly Woven." Anyone else read that one?"

Hi Elisa! Welcome! :) I haven't read Brightly Woven, but it sounds interesting. What did you think of it?

message 1205: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Sounds good - and I guess I will leave your anatomy out of it, Jeesh! I thought I would have more support from the ladies in this group for all my Carrie Bradshaw love, guess I will just have to call up my GBF (gay best friend) he's so excited about the new movie that he will probably read the book!

message 1206: by Elisa (new)

Elisa Sims (elisalisasims) Well Alexandra Bracken has definitely created a unique world in this book. The love story is nothing groundbreaking or different, but charming all the same. I would definitely recommend it!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I've got mad SATC love! I've never seen the HBO versions, but I LOVE that show. I'll back you up Jaime on SATC and the frozen tundra! Good thing the series is over b/c I would hate to see an Aiden/Big debate around here.

Speaking of frozen tundra (and 15" snow storms when it's practically May) we were just in the middle of a hail storm, so don't be surprised if it comes your way.

message 1208: by [deleted user] (new)

Elisa - I've got Brightly Woven on my TBR list and can't wait to read it. :)

message 1209: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Thank you Brittany! and there is going to be a whole new Big/Aiden drama because Aiden is in the new movie. Oh and yeah I see that Vail pass is closed right now because of accidents and guess where my bf and I are supposed to be going after work? Yup we booked a room at the Arrabella (one of the only times we can use our employee discount) and I don't even know if we will be able to get there.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Ouch... I doubt it. It's pretty bad here, and I talked to someone who was on the pass this week and she said it was the worst she had ever seen it. Sad day that you might not make it. Staying in places like that are nice, but personally, I think Arrabelle is overated (and just another tourist trap), on the other hand, if you're got that employee discount... I say use it!

Good luck getting over the pass!

S.S. (ssrice) | 75 comments I just started reading Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs.

So far, it has started off good. I like the MC.

message 1212: by jen (new)

jen S.S-

I LOVE the Mercy Thompson series. I'm upset that they're now being released to hardcover, though, since I have the first four in paperback. I'm waiting for one of my friends to buy it so that I can read it, but so far it's looking like I'll have to wait to get it from the library or wait til the paperback comes out :(

message 1214: by Heidi (last edited May 01, 2010 07:15AM) (new)

Heidi Jaimie I am not into fashion or shoes. I loved SATC for the stories of those great women, their lives, and their men of course. Shannen and Peep are not allowed to knock it until they have watched it (more than one episode). Elisa - welcome! Some of the others around here did a terrible job of saying that to you. Geez, I can't be on here all day girls.

Good to know, thanks for the info!

message 1216: by Traci (new)

Traci I'm not a devout follower of SATC but if it's on I'm totally down for it. I love drama when it doesn't involve me.. that's probably why I enjoy YA fiction so much! :] and SATC feeds my grown-up side ;x

Just started the newest House of Night novel, Burned. Not going to lie, I have not been impressed with these books since probably the third one, so I have very low expectations. I just hate not finishing a series, and I hate spoilers even more so I feel like I have to read them right when they come out. *sigh*

message 1217: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Traci - you are funny! Just stop reading that series. I dare you! There are sooooo many others out there that deserve you :)

message 1218: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Seriously, don't waste your life on them. There are so many good books out there. You should never waste your life on a boring book.

message 1219: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm the same way, Traci. All in all, I like the HON series OK but would never recommend them. I'll finish it out though.

I just finished The Reckoning which is the last bok of the Darkest Powers trilogy. I really liked this series.

Now I'm onto Unwind. I'm excited to start this book!

message 1220: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Shannen - I am very curious to see your thoughts on Unwind. p.s. - I can't believe you don't watch SATC, that seems like your thing!

message 1221: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Beaumont (sheilabeaumont) | 18 comments I read the first three House of Night books, then gave up on them despite the cliffhanger at the end. The writing was just too bad!

message 1222: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ok. I gave up after over half of The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart . Anyone else read it?

message 1223: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead . Trying to decide what to read next. either Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1) by Richelle Mead , Storm Glass (Glass, #1) by Maria V. Snyder or Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick ....

The roads cleared up and we made it just fine. I would never pay what the going rate is for the Arrabelle but we get it for like $80/nt - only when the occupancy is super low though. Plus my boyfr...errr now I guess he is my fiance *cough* surprised me with the trip yesterday morning. :)

Traci Heidi wrote: "Ok. I gave up after over half of The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart. Anyone else read it?"

I'm glad you and I have very similar tastes, Heidi! I couldn't stand that book! But I read it instead of listening to it. I finished it, but it didn't get any better.. you're not really missing out on anything.

message 1226: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Good to know Traci! I hate giving up on books, but I found I was not even excited to go walk or anything because that was the book I was listening to. Thanks for letting me know I was not missing anything. How do some of these YA books get nominated for awards???

message 1227: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Started If I Stay by Gayle Forman on audio today and liking it so far.

message 1228: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Beaumont (sheilabeaumont) | 18 comments I read Frankie Landau quite a while back. I enjoyed it, but didn't find it as spectacular as rave reviews had led me to expect.

Congrats girl! I guess Arabelle is good for something!!

Priscilla | 30 comments I am reading A Midsummer Night's Death (Oxford Children's Modern Classics) by K.M. Peyton found it at the library.. It good so far.

message 1236: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Awe, thanks guys. Yeah - he was trying to surprise me - as much as you can be surprised after you have been dating 7 years. It was pretty cool because there was nobody in Vail, like ghost town numbers, but snow everywhere.

message 1240: by Rochelle (new)

Rochelle (itsmechelly) | 45 comments Let me state that I am a huge SATC fan: the shoes, the clothes, the characters, everything. I have all the seasons on dvd plus the first movie.

But back on topic:
Because of my unhealthy obsession with the Hunger Games (you know, when you're threatening the lives of people who refuse to read it, lol) I decided to read Sookie Stackhouse #4 and #5 before I get to Catching F. I know the only reason I read Sookie Stackhouse is because of the tv series. Only the first two books were good and the third one was really bad. But I want to know what happens next, I guess. The story in the fourth one is dragging. I wonder if the rest of series is going to be better?

I liked the first 5 or 6 sookie books.. but now it does seem like the series is just kinda dragging on. The 10th one comes out May 4th and of course I will get it right away and read it (because I suck) and I will most likely not be interested, but I will read it anyway lol.

That's the issue I'm having right now. I'm reading the new House of Night book and omg I want to murder myself. It's like nails on a chalkboard while ramming your head into a wall. Actually, I suppose reading it is comparable to watching a B-movie. The only reason you watch it is to make fun of it...

Amy (3601144-amy) | 41 comments umm. have you read or looked into the black dagger brotherhood books? I dig 'em.

I bought the first House of Night book a few months ago. I'm going to start it soon.

message 1244: by Traci (new)

Traci I ordered the first book off amazon and I just got it (among various other ones) the other day.. now it just depends on when I have time to get to it.. I'm in the final couple weeks of my semester and it's pretty insane.. too.much.work!

message 1245: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Traci. Repeat after me, "I will no longer waste my time or money on books I hate just because they are in a series I started". Remember, admitting you have a problem is the first step towards recovery.

message 1246: by Traci (new)

Traci ooooh Heidi. If only it were so easy. -_-

but once I'm done with this one and the Sookie one I won't have to deal with that for another year until they come out again! hahah

I just want to know how it ends! Is that so bad?! :x

message 1247: by Heidi (new)

Heidi That is what Wikipedia is for Traci!

message 1248: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (closer2coma86) | 83 comments I fully agree with Heidi...Wikipedia it! I did that with The Luxe series. The first book sucked but I wanted to know all the drama in the next book.

message 1249: by Traci (new)

Traci hahaha.. well I finished it, and good riddance. Now I just have to decide what to read next!

The Forest of Hands and Teeth, The Thief, the first in the BDB series, Incarceron, or the first in the Fever series..

hmm.. decisions, decisions..

message 1250: by Heidi (last edited May 03, 2010 11:31AM) (new)

Heidi I have not heard anything good about Forest of Hands and Teeth, so I am skipping it. I liked the Thief, and also have the first BDB book and Incarceron to read at home. I recommend the first Fever book. It is crazy!
