I finished around lunchtime. It was a pretty quick read, but I loved very minute of it. Great book!

Which book Graffiti Moon or Bringing Up the Bones? And if Graffiti Moon excited that you loved it.....only adds to my confidence that I wont regret buying it. Or if Bringing up the bones, what did you think of the ending?

Oh, I meant Graffiti Moon :) it was very good. I wish it would have been a bit longer, but I loved it. It made me laugh and the characters were great. I definitely don't regret buying it, especially since I will most likely read it again in the future.

Benji (baristavonbeard) | 9 comments Currently reading The Force Unleashed (Star Wars) by Sean Williams and it's really quite good. I'm a fan of video game conversions and Star Wars both; I think I'm basically this book's target audience. I'm enjoying it: I think that Sean Williams has converted the path of game-play into a narrative story well, remaining faithful to the video game yet making sure it doesn't read like a walkthrough.
I've also just started reading Black Powder War (Temeraire, #3) by Naomi Novik . I haven't got very far just yet, however what I have read has been of the usual high standard. Enjoyable and exciting as always.

Bethany | 578 comments Just finished Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side (Jessica, #1) by Beth Fantaskey which was much better than I thought it would be.

Now on to Five Flavors of Dumb by Antony John . On the tail of Graffiti Moon and re-reading Anna and the French Kiss(a favorite), I find myself craving some good realistic fiction. I hope this one lives up to the reviews!!

message 12358: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I have Five Flavors, it looks good.

message 12359: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Article 5 (Article 5, #1) by Kristen Simmons isn't really grabbing me right now, so I also started Fallen in Love (Fallen, #3.5) by Lauren Kate .

Becca | 1608 comments Aneta wrote: "I'm starting with UgliesUglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld today. Can't wait :)"

I actually liked this series, especially the idea behind it. I too had issues with the author's writing style. I thought the relationships were incredibly unreal and unexplained. What motivated the characters wasn't really realistic imo, but the third book is what really sold the series for me. The end of Specials (Uglies, #3) by Scott Westerfeld was awesome.

message 12361: by Brandi (new)

Brandi I'm reading The Sweetest Thing by Christina Mandelski and Erebos by Ursula Poznanski from Netgalley and I'm also re-reading Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1) by Cassandra Clare .

I'm on the second book now, and it's just not grabbing, just like the first book. I hate to have to wait until the third book to actually start liking the series. But I have the third and fourth book out from the library, so I'm sure I will read them. The idea behind these books is awesome, but the author's writing really does leave something to be desired. Today when reading I noticed he kept using the same word for something over and over again within the chapter. My goodness, man, pick up a thesaurus and change it up!

message 12363: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments lol! No kidding.

The fourth isn't part of the series really. This particular series was a trilogy, then he wrote another book from the same dystopian world, just so you're aware.

Arphaxad | 335 comments Finally finished Entwined by Heather Dixon , which was painful, and moved on to Breathless by Jessica Warman , which is strange but interesting so far :)

message 12365: by Jim (new)

Jim Franz | 36 comments I thought that the Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld trilogy was interesting, but it didn't grab me nearly as much as the Midnighters The Secret Hour (Midnighters, #1) by Scott Westerfeld series did.

I also didn't care for Extras (Uglies, #4) by Scott Westerfeld , but that's due to a pet peeve of mine. (view spoiler)

Melodie (melodieco) I just am REALLY not liking Article 5 (Article 5, #1) by Kristen Simmons . I thought it would be really good, but it's really not. The main character, Ember, is pissing me off to no end. I'll finish it because I don't have that much more to go, but I won't read the next one!!

The "world" in this one is actually quite interesting. It's like the "moral majority" had finally taken over and women in particular have been set back 100 years or more, but Ember is useless.

Melodie (melodieco) Did NOT like Article 5 (Article 5, #1) by Kristen Simmons ! Gave it 2 stars for the "world" and for Chase, the male main character. The female lead character was worthless! Going to start Blood Red Road (Dust Lands, #1) by Moira Young this evening.

Oh no, I loved Article 5. But I really loved Blood Red Road- and don't hold it against the book that I liked both of them- I think you'll love it too! :) I had problems getting into it at first because of the dialect but after a few pages, I was fine.

Like Jessica said the dialect is different in Blood Red Road. I think she copied a little off the Chaos Walking books (which I love!)

Juliann Whicker | 131 comments Just read The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1) by Rae Carson and loved it! Seriously a solid first book from an author I can't wait to see more of. Solid world building, serious character development, and an author who doesn't flinch from hard things like killing characters. Sigh. Still a little sad about that:)

I really liked Dead Beautiful. It has problems and my DH thought it was full of gaping plot holes, but I thought it was fun and different. I read it before the sequel was out so I can't tell you if that's good or not.

You read the second book, but not the first? Did you only read the second book because of the movie?

message 12397: by Theo (new)

Theo As far as I understand it, the first and second books deal with different characters who then all show up in the third book. So you are meeting the main character of the second book for the first time in the second book, and don't have to read the first book before. I read it because of a class on children' literature I was taking. We had to choose a year and read the Newbery winner and honors. It got a Newbery honor in 1974.

i gave it two stars, my review is harsh. I felt the plot was set for a sequel and since the book was on the library new shelf, I picked it up. Now after reading my review I may pass.
